Cheers as always. Sounds so crispy and mint when it lives. However, what a ball ache. I think, i might have seen a video of one of these running a fail safe, it was causing the engine to die. maybe i've got my wires crossed? Anywhoo, they disconnected it, all was rosey.

Its definitely the CDI box. I know I said this last time, but trust me. Its the box. Mine was a black pipe, first one the hobby shop got in. Replaced the CDI a month later after all the headaches and it fixed the issue.

Yeah the little nobbly bits on the tires still look quite new, think it's just Sat in the garage for a long time

The finish of the pipe was changed for the second batch to a plain silver because of the fading of the black finish due to the heat. They were the only two batches ever made because of all the issues. Any stock around is 10 years old

The cdi unit looks very similar to the ones used on petrol rc plane engines like stinger engines or DLE engines

Sadly it seems, in this case the E.I.S "Engine Ignition System" is failing to keep the super cap charged up = no constant spark at the plug. As you know well young Ben! Motocross etc.. use similar systems C.D.I - Capacitor discharge ignition. They can be fixed IF you can get the potting out easily & safely, they can take 8.4 volts all day :)

It,s sad to see a nice HPI Savage style RC truck mate not do its thing because of bad ignition components. It's in the right hands I have faith in you :)
