In this video, I do an overview of my HPI Venture Class 2 build. I also show how to fabricate a set of inner fender wells for cheap to free for scale points and enhanced scale appearance.
One of my favourite crawler chassis. I still have one. Mine has a bunch of brass and a JConcepts Ford F250 tucked body. That reefs servo is just a rebranded AGFRC servo. Reefs doesn't make their own servos, they just put their name on it and jack up the price.
The big issue for me is not wanting to raise the gear ratio any more than it already is. HPI way over geared these for my taste. Since this video, I have pretty much redone the entire drivetrain. It’s currently running a 1500KV outrunner with 10t pinion into a 1:9 team garage hack transfer case and a 13% UD rear diff. It creeps super smooth and works really well.
I love the venture platform, you just have to be dedicated to build one since there is zero aftermarket support. Mine isn't necessarily a comp rig but it performs very well and will see the occasional class 2 event. Still got more in the works for it.
It is definately an overlooked platform. Mostly due to lack of aftermarket support and short time it was available. Stay tuned though, I have more in the works for this one. Next project is gearing down and a DIY under-drive rear which I’ve never seen done.
When that video was made, it had the 4.75 Hyrax in G8 compound on SSD beadlocks and CI foams. Since then, I have switched to a set of 4.75 KM3s in Predator compound on Locked Up RC beadlocks with single stage foams in back and dual stage in front. They work much better than the Hyrax in the type terrain we have around here. The current combo are the ones I built in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oRVkpfamD04.html
Mine is from the RTR venture I started out with but I also have a spare that I bought on eBay a while back. They are still on there but are way expensive. Like $100 plus unless you get lucky and snag one cheaper.
