We've revealed a big construction milestone in Birmingham city centre, with the completion of the first giant V-shaped pier for the 300 metres long viaduct that will bring high speed trains into the new Curzon Street Station.
The 5 metre tall structure is the first pier to be installed for the ‘Curzon No. 3 Viaduct’, which will be the final approach to HS2’s new seven platform station in the city centre. In total, 26 concrete piers will be installed for this viaduct, with heights varying between 5 and 6 metres above ground level. In addition, 4 steel tripod piers will be erected to span over the Digbeth Branch Canal.
In total, 30 concrete piers will be installed for this viaduct, and once all piers are in place, the team will begin to form. the deck spans connecting the piers with the longest span between each pier stretching over 28 metres across the site.

We’re really starting to make great progress at our Curzon Street site, but this is just the beginning. Later this year, we'll be installing the decks which will lay on top of the piers - then the viaduct will really start to take shape!🌉

@@debbiecurtis4021 I live in the centre, the current eyesores are Dale End, Smithfield, and the whole Eastside area around Moor Street and Curzon. Thankfully, all of these have extensive masterplans for redevelopment. What doesn't help is having huge sites razed such as the 'New Monaco' site on Bristol St and then nothing ever gets built there despite planning being approved for the same scheme again and again. I just really wish BCC/TfWM would pull their fingers out and actually build a proper tram network to our suburbs. Trams to: Bournville via Edgbaston Cricket Ground & Selly Oak Sutton town centre via Villa Park, Kingstanding and Sutton Park Castle Vale via Star City & The Fort NEC/Airport via St. Andrews, Small Heath and Yardley Sounds like a lot, but we're in a big city far too focused on the car. @peterwilliamallen1063
@peterwilliamallen1063 Год назад
@@tonyubr Well tonybur you need to catch up on HS2 facts from the official website as to start with your first question; Question 1/ No train in this country will ever run that fast every day; Answer Q1/ Well yes it will on HS2, the line speed is being set at 250mph and HS2 trains from Stafford and Birmingham Curzon Street to London Euston on the new HS2 line will travel between 225 and 250 mph and that is fact and has been quoted by the builders HS2 limited with brand new bullet trains being built to operate this line, from Stafford to Manchester and Scotland they will operate at 125 mph Question 2/ Wow big deal save 40 mins on the journey; Answer Q2/ well when at present it takes 90 mins from Birmingham New Street to London Euston and on HS2 it will take 50 mins there is a big difference between a journey of one and half hours to a journey time of 50 mins or less which saves 40 mins in each direction, so for a round trip from Birmingham to London on a day round trip you will save 80mins giving you extra time in London; Question 3/ Who is going to use this service; Answer Q3/ The passengers that will use HS2 services will be every one who at present uses the existing WCML services from the North and Birmingham into London Euston, this are business people, day trippers to London and general passengers, how will this happen, well the incubent operator of the existing WCML Avanti West Coast Trains services into London Euston will operate both the WCML route and HS2 route and 95% of high speed services that now operate on the existing WCML will be diverted on to the HS2 route. So you can meet customers on video call, big deal since this has happened it take 3 hours to contact a business by phone because people like your self working from home are not working at all, so as the Government is trying to do now that Covid is finished every one will be back in the office, and the services on HS2 will be operated by Avanti West Coast Trains with their partners Trenitalia who operate equivalent High Speed train services in Italy and into Paris, so do you research on this subject before stating that I am Naive that HS2 is a White Elephant what ever that is or any one is on drugs.
@davedave6404
@davedave6404 Год назад
@@tonyubr You point is noted and to some extent, yes, video calls will replace some journeys. It's not the speed, it's the freeing up of the whole network feeding the West Coast line for freight to move from road to rail. The media have done a wonderful job of focusing the minds of the public on the speed (a lot have been brainwashed by Clarkson and co. of course). If this dammed line had been built in the 80's or even If dare say it the re-opening of the central line (proposed in the 90's and even got to 2nd reading status before ditching early this century), we would not have this massive burden of cost rises. As HS2 looked like a reality more and more people got on the gravy train to interfere, lobby for expensive tunnels, bought up parcels of land and old buildings for the eventual compensation. And of course the never ending knockers of anything and everything rail from the massive road lobby that still has a stranglehold over the Dept of Transport, have delayed this project. When this opens most people will see the benefits, not just high speed travelers, you wait, you might even be converted !!!
