HTC VR VIVE BASESTATION BUZZING FIX

A very easy fix. You wont even need a screwdriver. Just need a :
sharp blade
a spudger
some sort of tweezers
super glue IMPORTANT... USE A TINY TINY TINY DOT OF GLUE.
If you have a very loud hum or buzzing from your base station then watch the whole video first before ripping yours apart.
Mine was out of warranty and opening yours will certainly void yours if you have one.
As usual, you undertake any repairs such as this at your own risk.
Let me know how you get on!

Thank you for this. Gave me the needed confidence to open it up. Sure enough, there was a loose lens flopping around in there. $120 saved.

Thanks for your video. Opened mine up an both lenses had completely detached. Saved me $200 AUD!

The freznel lens thingy on my base station came loose 3 years ago and had to super glue it back. But the glue fumes were a bit too strong, it fogged up the lens since its made of plastic. Today, when I turned back the base station, there was a rattling sound inside so i figured I do the same thing again, then I found this video. The knife thing saved me time opening the damn thing. Thanks. BTW, I will try to use a dab of hot glue instead of super glue, thinking it might fog up the lens again.

Thanks for this video. I had a clicking sound in my base station and is why I found your video. When I opened up the base station I found that both laser covers were solidly in place. I poked around to see if I could see another part loose or if the one of the motors was slightly off but didn't find anything. I decided to do some cleaning inside so I used alcohol pads to clean off the laser covers, the silver strips on the opposite side, and the insider and outside of the station cover. Put it all back together and it worked when plugged back in. It seems strange but it worked. So for anyone who has the same issue as me give the parts a good cleaning and put it back together. Hope it works for you.

Thank you for the video! Mine was just buzzing, but it was annoying. I would not have been able to open it up had I not seen you do this and knew I'd able to close it back up later. Mine was glued on pretty well. There was no hint of I'd be able to stick a sharp knife in there. It took me about 15 mins of knifing around and prying before I was able to open it up, even after I saw the video and knew I could do that. I guess I learned something new today. Thanks!

That fixed it for me cheers! Mine hadn't come off completely yet so it started scratching the filter from inside. That was probably the buzzing you heard on yours before it fully came off.

WARNING!!! Do not remove the front cover and then start up the lighthouse to see where the noise is coming from. In my case (see below), with no facia and the million KM speed of the lens spinning, it shot out very far across the room. I was lucky to find it as I have slightly dark floor tiles that allowed me to see this tiny clear plastic lens reflecting light otherwise, that lighthouse is a goner for good!! Note also it was harder to get access to the lens that to fix the actual problem. Also mark the orientation of the black facia vs the box before removing as it can be hard to find the correct way around to but it back on. BE WARNED!!! I just had the same problem where the bottom lens not only lifted up so slightly it was barely noticeable but also 2 of the little round edges of the lens that clip into the housing had come off so there was almost nothing holding it in when spinning. The sound came from the lens spinning then lifting op slightly so every time it span it hit the black facia a hundred times a second which made the buzzing noise. As there was nothing left on the lens to glue, I got some wide clear Sellotape that I cut into a strip the same width as the lens and 2 inches long. (Time 1:50 - Note the orientation of both len's as they are both facing different directions. 1 x North to South, the other is East to West. Best to take a picture before going further) After placing the lens in the middle of the Sellotape, I then placed it back in it's housing and stuck it all down. What concerns me is, although my lighthouses are over 5 years old, the fact that a small little spinning plastic lens can bring a $200 piece of equipment to a standstill is not only ridiculous but shows how they build Planned obsolescence into their products. They could have built these tiny lens' in such a way it slides into its housing from either the top or bottom which would have eliminated this problem from the get go but no!!!

Thanks! I had the exact same issue and this solved it for me. Only one of the lenses had started coming loose, but I figured I might as well glue both to keep it around longer. The funny thing is that base station had a low whine for years before it recently started buzzing, and now the whine is completely gone. I should have done this ages ago.

Oh wow, would would have thought it would be this easy? I had the buzzing sound, then sporadic tracking loss, then frequent tracking loss, then tracking stopped working. Popped it open and found one lens dangling by a glue ball and powdered glue sprayed across the inside of the cover. A little cleaning and the smallest amount of CA glue later I am back to full working order, thanks for the video, saved me $120!

If your lens is still there, you can just push it back in and it'll be fine for awhile. You should still replace the glue though. Otherwise, the area between the spinning bits and the silver metal part is dirty. Just use an air compressor to clean it out and you should be all set.

Thanks, your video helped me! Had the same problem, but the lens didnt flew off but was scraping with one loose corner on the casing inside, creating this noise. Used a little drop of super glue too. After one damaged fingernail and not any screwdriwers managing it, I also decided to use the precision tool knife to open the front panel :D

It helps, m8. Thx very much! But, my superglue drifted onto the lens and now I can feel the slight drift of the tracking. In dynamics it is not noticeable, but in static, the image twitches. Played for 40 minutes, no negative aftereffects. Lenses separately in the sale I have not found anywhere, so will have to suffer like this until I buy a replacement lighthouse or dead for disassembly. Be careful guys!

Yea one of the (polarizing?) lenses completely came off on one of my base stations, now I'm pretty sure the other base station's lenses came off as well as it basically stopped tracking. Couldn't they have found another way to secure the lenses to those rotors that spin a gazillion times per minutes lol

@marvmrshen
@marvmrshen Год назад
Mine would stop buzzing after a while too. Turned out the lens was loose and not completely off yet. It would stop buzzing when it had been running long enough to go back into place. I will say that if you do this I recommend removing the other lens while you are in there and resecuring it since it the glue on it is just as old and more than likely going to fail soon as well. Pro tip: there is a little hole next to the lens you can stick something in (I used one of those plastic flosser toothpicks) to pry it out. You should be able to get it out even if it is not loose yet.

I sorta have the same issue where i hear a buzzing/vibrating noise but for some reason the 9 red dots disappear after like 5 mins and it turns purple what does that mean? its almost like it looses connection or something because it doesnt show it on the vr studio thing likes its not even there.

Do NOT listen to the advice of this video. Any tiny amount of glue that may get on that plastic lense piece may cause it to not function anymore. This part is not replaceable. INSTEAD use Scotch Tape to hold it in place. I wish I hadn't listened to this video, one tiny ass drop of glue and the thing won't work at all anymore. $70 mistake. Apparently Scotch Tape is the safe way to go.
@mattaylor5817
@mattaylor5817 16 дней назад
the trick is ... a very very small amount of glue. the tape will throw the centrifugal balance way off. the spinning drum has to be perfectly balanced.
