Hello! I'm testing a mesh network with 3 of AX3 Pro but the Guest Network doesn't expand like 2.4GHz and 5GHz. It's stays only on the main router. Do you know how to solve this situation? Thanks.
I really don't know, maybe it's some kind of limitation with the Guest Network but I never heard of a Meshed Guest Network before and I also never tried it myself, so I can't tell for sure. You could maybe ask the guys at Huawei support to get more info about this issue. Thanks for watching the video 🙂
So what I understand, a little trouble with Chinese version only in the beginning of the setup, but after that everything could be set in English on the app and/or Google translate the main page of the router and you'll good to go. But with Chinese version you will get signal amplifiers and with global version they stripped them out? And I read a lot of negative reviews from various users that without the signal amplifier the signal could be worse. I'll guess I will go for the Chinese version.
Just a question. If i set up my router using wired connection does it need to be close to the main internet router? planning to set it up 30meters away using cat6 cable. Will it work?
No, it does not need to be close to your router, you can wire it up 30m away. Just make sure you use quality cables and to not use too many cables as the more cables you use, the more steps the signal has to go through. If you can't, you can find ethernet extenders (or ethernet repeaters) to enhance the signal between two ethernet cables. Hope you enjoyed the video and that I helped you 🙂
Yes, definitely ! That's why I made this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-50pLhiNjkWY.html to help people configuring their Xiaomi/Redmi router well enough so they can enjoy better speed 🙂 I didn't make one for Huawei routers yet though. Thanks for watching the video, hope you enjoyed it !
As far as your modem has a LAN port it should work fine. The smartphones won't have any issue as this router supports WiFi 6 but also the old WiFi versions.
Hi, from security pt of view, are you able to verify if AX3 Pro i) allows Adminstration by LAN connections only or ii) at least to enable HTTPS while accessing default IP address via wireless ? Thks.
I don't have the device in my hands currently but as far as I remember I didn't see a chinese option to only allow the administration by LAN and the interface was accessible via HTTP not HTTPS. This has to be 100% confirmed but I'm pretty sure that was it. Hope you enjoyed the video though, don't forget to subscribe if you want to support the channel 🙂
@@tech-by-max Subscribed. I could not find/confirm these options coz my Chinese sucks although I am holding the device. I guess you have verified what I have already explored meaning there will be security issues using AX3 for administration. Tks.
I think it's pretty transparent when you set up a mesh connection and you don't really know what band it uses. Only after it's set up you can get access to the 2 bands. Unfortunately I only have one router so I cannot 100% confirm. Hope you enjoyed the video, don't forget to subcribe if you want to support the channel 🙂
¨hey just got the router i have a bit of speed problem my old tp link ac 1750 was faster , can be the problem with wifi 6 not compatible? When i run WIFI 5 i get only about 150mbs also i cant setup 2,4g and 5ghz but on the old one is faster i dont know if im doing some mistakes of setuping
You should expect faster speed coming from this router. You could try to follow my How to boost the speed for Xiaomi/Redmi routers video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-50pLhiNjkWY.html and try to do the same with your Huawei router (even though they are not exactly the same params). Make sure you are running two networks, one for the 2.4 and one for the 5GHz band and not an aggregated one. Also make sure you are running the latest firmware. Hope that helps you a bit 🙂
@@tech-by-max dunno, i get on wifi on 2nd floor good speed but wile on my pc when i check the speed its like only 150mbs and should be 300 and its over cable also the configuring over the browser in chinese is pure shit
@@tech-by-max cant find ipv6 options any help? dont know if its because of that but lower speed around 100mbs from 300 from old router is not normal :/
You can use it to replace your modem WiFi thanks to the wired extender mode or you can use it as an acces point thanks to the wireless extender mode. Thanks for watching the video !
Yes, that's the AX3 pro version with 4 amplifiers that I was testing there. Black is always the pro version whereas white could be the standard or pro one. Thanks for watching !
If your modem works like any standard modem, you just have to plug an ethernet cable from one of your B818 LAN port to the AX3 pro WAN port and set it up just like I did in this video. Thanks for watching 🙂
Yep it is a pretty good router. You could also check my review of the Redmi AX6 for what feels to me like an even better router ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--ihlEVqmdsE.html Thanks for watching, don't forget to subscribe if you want to support the channel 🙂
Im in Singapore. I see a light red and tried connecting to wifi. My phone is able to detect its presence but when i click the name to connect, it reports an error unable to detect internet. I cant get to the page where i can register. The website 193 doesnt load too. Help needed.
If you can't connect because of an error for the first time, just hit the reset button on the router to reset it. Then, just follow every step I did from plugging the ethernet cable from your modem LAN ports to one of these 4 AX3 Pro ports to initializing through the WiFi settings. I am sure if you follow the video from A to Z correctly right after resetting the router, it will work just fine. Thanks for commenting, hope I could help, don't forget to subscribe if you want to support the channel 🙂
Hi bro I what is the difference between IPv4 and IPv4 & IPv6? I just set up mine and by mistake I click it IPv4 instead the 2nd Option? How can I change them to the 2nd Option IPv4 & IPv6? Please help me with your advice thanks bro 🙏
IPv4 and IPv6 are used to identify the devices connected to your router. IPv6 is the newest protocol of the 2 and brings some new features to allow better management and communication for the devices on the network. To be honest it really matters if you are an advanced user and know what you do as this won't boost your connection speed. Anyway, if you want to add IPv6 support to your network, you just have to go on your browser from a computer connected to your network and type the IP address of your Huawei router (something starting with 192.168.x) to access the router web interface. Then you'll have to find the option to enable IPv6 in chinese (translate the pages with a translation tool if needed). Hope you enjoyed the video and don't forget to subscribe if I helped 🙂
I'm gonna make a video to show how to do this in a few days after I'm done with my current video as this is a lot requested ! Don't forget to subscribe if you don't want to miss it and thanks for watching 🙂
I don't think it is possible but if you want to replace the WiFi of your modem, you can connect this router to your modem through a LAN (modem) to WAN (router) port thanks to an ethernet cable just as I did in this video. Then, you just have to disable your modem WiFi and connect all your devices to the router WiFi. Your router will now act just as your modem does for most of the features.
If your modem supports it, you can go in the modem's settings and disable the WiFi emission. Then you can link a router like this one to the modem through ethernet and only enable the router's WiFi emission.
It really depends of the bandwidth your ISP provides. For my side, I do pay for a 1Gbps download speed and around 500Mbps upload speed and those are the results I am getting. The people reviewing this product are probably running similar ISP speeds thanks to (probably) opitcal fiber. If you have a similiar configuration and still experience such low speeds, make sure to reset your router and set it up again but if you don't have optical fiber (which means you surely have xDSL, old tech), you will probably not be able to reach more than this unfortunately.
I can use this as a mesh system to my existing wifi but cannot get it to the internet via ethernet. I think it's an ISP problem as I have tried two modems but just wondering if you had any tips.
You need to have another Huawei mesh router to create a mesh network with this one. Pretty weird, it should auto connect to the internet if you plug an ethernet cable from one of your LAN modem ports to one of the WAN ports of this Huawei router. If you follow this video to setup your Huawei router, you should not have any problem but if you did and that is not working, I am not sure what the problem is. Anyway, thanks for watching, don't forget to subscribe if you want to support the channel 🙂
I have 3 of these in the hope of setting up a wireless mesh system to replace my bt home hub. After I connected the first one, lan to wan, how do I now get the others to now connect wirelesly? Thanks.
There should be an option on the web management interface to set up the mesh network. Unfortunately, I don't have this router in my hands right now so I can't really guide you beside telling you to search on the web interface. Hopefully other people made a video for this on RU-vid.
The coverage seems decent for me as I don't have big walls and only one floor. Anyway the issue surely has to do with the fact that this router is pretty cheap and doesn't provide crazy high gain antennas. Glad you appreciated the video, don't forget to subscribe if you want to support the channel 🙂
Yeah you can use this router with the B525. You just need to plug an ethernet cable from one of your modem LAN port to the WAN port of this router and then follow the setup I did 🙂 Hope you enjoyed the video, don't forget to subscribe if you want to support the channel!
This router brings a lot of new technologies. If you have WiFi 6 devices, you will definitely notice a gain in speed. If you have only WiFi 5 devices, you may experience a slight boost. Also this router should work better than your modem if you have a lot of devices connected to it as it is designed to handle more devices at the same time than your other Huawei piece.
@@paultv6636 the download speed comes from your Huawei b525 router. if the b525 has fast connection the ax3 will have fast connection..if it has slow the other one will be slow too
I bought the huawei AX-3 Pro WiFi 6 from China. Its from their authorised sales shop. Upon reaching Singapore, it fails to detect WiFi. I have to connect it thru my old router for it to have signal! It's supposed to be the most powerful WiFi yet I can't use it because old router can't reach certain parts of the house. Speed is also slow, again because its connected thru the old router. Can anyone help? Called their hotline and they don't provide support for huawei products not purchased in Singapore. 😤
It might be an issue with the unit as it's the first time I've heard of a similar problem. I am sure you already tried to reset it ? You could also try to contact them through their global Twitter or Facebook, maybe they could help you from there.
Can I set up this router from the browser, like 192.168.1.1 something like that?, I mean without this APP?, I want to see if this router has other options like Device speed limiting, VPN, Virtual server, etc.
Yeah sure, you can just grab the router IP and type it into a device connected to it. You will get more options but small reminder that the user interface is entirely in chinese though.
So far there is no english firmware or english option available for this device. I heard somewhere that the router will have a global version sometimes later. So for now, you can only use translation apps if you are not chinese and want to set it up in english. It's not that bad to be honest, I am sure you will have no troubles 🙂 Don't forget to subscribe if I helped 🙂
I can't connect either my Google Chrome or my Google home with 2.4 or 5ghz wifi from this router. Anybody any idea how to fix this? Previous router never had issues with either Google or device.
Make sure to reset your Google Home if you cannot connect it to this router as I do have multiple Google Home devices working great with this router. If it still does not work, try to reset your router as well. Hopefully, it should work better 🙂 Thanks for watching the video !
@@tech-by-max Thanks for the tip! I tried it and it doesn't work, Google home mini, chrome cast and also Alexa don't work with it. Could it be due to something with the WiFi 6? But well you said for others it works.. Odd
That's unfortunate 😶 Some people on LifeWire have made a guide for these Google Home problems www.lifewire.com/google-home-wont-connect-wifi-4160059 but you probably already tried those things before. You could also try to aggregate the 2 bands into one SSID through the router interface maybe it would work better 🤷🏻♂️
@@tech-by-max Thanks for the advice! Turns out Google home mini, chrome cast and Alexa all had the same issue. For whoever reads this with the same issue: If you switch to a completely new network you have to factory reset all devices. Alexa: mic button + volume down for 20 sec Google mini: press the almost invisible button on the bottom for a few seconds
There is no default wireless password, you first set it when you initially configure your router. If you forgot your password, you can hit the reset button on the router and follow the video to initialize the router with the password you want. Hey Max.. the router is screwed from the get go.It's nice, but cannot do anything with it.No English setup, just a couple of chinese page and the actual software setup for the phone app is nonexistent webpage.I've dloaded the international firmware for it but no way to flash it. So thanx for yer info on the router but it's just a pipe dream buddy..lol
As I said in this video, this router is a pretty good value considering it's price and what it brings to the end user (WiFi 6 and all the new tech that come with it). It's not the best but for its price category, I don't think you can get much more beside maybe the Redmi AX6. You can get the Huawei HiLink app on the Play Store or Apple app store if you want to configure it in english. I don't think it's possible to sideload an international firmware on this chinese router indeed. I've tried to help setting up this router in the video, I am sorry that it's not enough for you. Thanks for watching the video though !
@@tech-by-max Don't get me wrong .I like the router, just I need to set it up for the local PPPOE fiber connection in english..lol I've got the AI life app and trying to stumble through it somehow..everything is chinese.. so its a daunting job..need flash it to the international version somehow
Ok so if I want the router to only cover 1 room, choosing smaller coverage should work best since the signal won't suffer much interference from other routers in the house/building, right? Thanks for the guide
You should still pick the Max range option as the router is going to use more power meaning the router delivers more speed and more coverage thanks to the full efficiency of the antennas and chips inside. Running any other range mode would mean less power going into the router as it is written so the router would go in some sort of "eco mode" delivering less speed and less coverage.
@@tech-by-max The room is 5m x 5m so I don't need superiour coverage, are you sure it will affect it at such a small distance? Can you give it a test if you have a smaller room?
@@tech-by-max I appreciate it, truly :) P.S. Make sure you reboot the router each time you change the coverage settings so we're sure it's from a clear state when testing
Yep there are no problems using it in Europe. We have pretty much all the same bands available (chinese models have some more) and so we can set it up just like a global router.
It is not really useful if you already have a powerful WiFi 5 (AC) router. If you don't have a good one then it is definitely a good upgrade to make as it will be future proof for when you buy WiFi 6 devices and you will also have strong WiFi 5 with it. Meanwhile, i'd recommend you to check the Redmi AX6 as it has better specs and performs generaly better than this router. You can find a review video on my channel. Hope I helped you with my answers, don't forget to subscribe if you want to support this channel. 🙂
Thanks for a great video , i would to ask you what i can see when the router is on ? network 2.4 or 5 GHZ or two both together < i have repeater wifi i can see two network wifi 2.40 & 5 GHZ Thanks alot .
When the router is up and running, you have 2 different SSIDs for the 2.4 GHz and the 5GHz bands if you chose to not agregate the 2 bands at the initial setup of the router (what I did in the video). Thanks a lot for watching 🙂
@@tech-by-max can you send me photo for together options 2.40 & 5 GHZ < screen shoot from your phone when you choose the wifi name . thanks alot for reply
Unfortunately I don't have the AX3 pro in my hands right now but you can see the option on the top at 1:54 in the video. You can check the option if you want just one aggregated 2.4 and 5GHz wireless network or leave it uncheck like I did if you want two different networks : one for the 2.4 and the other for the 5GHz band.
tried following the steps and got lost in all the chinese texts. you skipped explaining what are the texts in the app. I don't even know where to input the password or other stuff. lol
Only the first init texts from the WiFi settings are chinese and I showed them. The HiLink app is in english as seen in the video, I don't really understand where you are stuck right now ?
@@tech-by-max ok thanks just followed whatever you clicked. Managed to connect. I now see I have 4 wifis now. 2 with Wifi-5. Unfortunately, the Huawei AI Life doesn't work and all I get is: 'No devices found' even if I'm connected to the Huawei router. Looks like the app in Google Play does not work with the new firmware. Anyway thanks for the guide.
In the video, I'm using the Huawei HiLink app, not the Huawei AI Life app. I don't think the AI Life app works with this router. Good thing you successfully connected 🙂 Hope you enjoy your router and enjoyed the video though. Don't forget to subscribe if I helped and you want to support the channel 🙂
What kind of joke video is this? Where are the wifi 6 speed tests? Wifi 6 is 2400mbit, so where are those tests? Taking into comparision that this router just has a 1gbit lan port, you shoud get 940mbit/s with wifi 6, so where are those tests?
Well, first I was not testing local performances, so there was no way to get near 2400 Mbps or 1 Gbps. All this router LAN ports are 1 Gbps ports so I also don't get why you say the opposite. Those are real WiFi 6 internet speeds tested with a WiFi 6 ready device (Xiaomi Mi 10). The people that test this router surely test it only locally for you to say that it's possible to reach 900 Mbps with this piece of hardware. I do get these results with a 1 Gbps subscription and yes, I do have ~1 Gbps when I am wired to this router. Advertised WiFi 6 is somewhat true for local performances only, it doesn't mean you will experience these internet speed with a device that cost less than 100$. It's a great price/performance router but it doesn't have as many antennas as some highly price routers do. Hopefully you can understand the effort content creators put into a video next time.
@@tech-by-max Yes I noticed that. Then your entire video makes no sense and you can just delete it. "All this router LAN ports are 1 Gbps ports so I also don't get why you say the opposite. " what are you even talking about. I was talking about your nonsense test. If you test this router you want to see if it can do the 940mbit/s max speed or not. Your entire video is totally useless. You buy this router because of itsperformance/price for being the cheapest wifi6 router/AP and you literally DONT test the wifi 6 capabilities at all in this video. It is like buying a wifi 6 router, doing a video of "wifi 6 speed test" and then just test a 54mbit/s wifi connection with it. TOTALLY USELESS. "lol doesnt have as much antennas as others have" cute. You dont seem to understand how wifi 6 works. you can do 2400mbit with 160mhz over 2 antennas with wifi 6. It is a matter of modulation (QAM1024 and OFDMA), not how many antennas.
I was literally testing this WiFi 6 router with my WiFi 6 Xiaomi Mi 10 in this video. You understand that this means WiFi 6 speedtests. I have no idea what else you are expecting if you are not interested in local tests either ? I understand that you don't like the results but they are what they are which means WiFi 6 speedtest between a WiFi 6 router, a WiFi 6 device on a 1 Gbps ISP fiber connection.
