It’s such a shame that Lei didn’t realize before he loved Shancai, they could have formed a beautiful couple. When Lei realized it, he did everything he could for Shancai, unfortunately, he was so broken that he did not know how to give her more love. That’s why he didn’t fight more for Shancai, he only wants his happiness, it’s like when he was with Jing, Shancai did the same. That’s exactly what love is, when you love the person, you only wish for his happiness...

3 versions later and I still ship them. They could’ve been together if Daoming Si hadn’t been so possessive over her before she even has feelings for him

I think Lei has always had feelings for Shancai from the start. I don't know when he started to develop feelings for her, maybe during the first argument between her and Si over the birthday cake? To see a girl who does not give way and who is not afraid of Si must have made him curious since it was the first time that this had happened. The fact that I think Lei has had feelings for Shancai from the start is that he cares about her from the start. Lei is seen as someone who does not interfere with other people's problems and who does not make friends with people. And from the start, that's what he does, he cares about her issues with Si, steps in every time and bonds with her. Even Jing finds it weird coming from Lei. But he's also been in love with Jing forever, so he puts his feelings for Shancai aside and prefers to choose what he has always known. And that's why he's cold with her at times. Except when Jing started to "accept" Lei's feelings (I think of the scene when Lei kisses Jing and she responds to the kiss), Lei gets scared and I think he's even wondering if the feelings that he has for her are always the same. And oddly after that kissing scene, Lei walks straight up to Shancai as if he's worried about her reaction because he knows she has seen them. After that he decides to give Jing a chance anyway by joining her in Paris and then realizes that these feelings are not the same anymore, so comes back broken because he spent half of his life loving her for in the end, nothing will not be possible. So he chains the girls on his return and maybe even holds a grudge against Shancai for having changed his feelings and even more for being closer to Si during his absence so he "plays" with her. During the rooftop scene where he tells Shancai that they should be dating secretly and after he tells her that she is even prettier than before, we can see at the end that he wonders what he is doing and blames himself a bit. When he was sad about Jing, he sought comfort from Shancai by asking for a hug, then after he kissed her and I think what made him take the plunge and see how Shancai was unhappy for him which proves that she really loved him and it must have warmed his heart. And when he said to her "why it's not you I love", I think he meant "why it is not you I love first". I think at that point he realized that the feelings he had for her were more important than he thought so he didn't hide them anymore by asking her to go out with him except that At the same time, he saw that the feelings Shancai had for him slowly faded to give way to feelings for Si. Wanting only Shancai's happiness and not wanting to break his relationship with his best friend, he gave up on her saying that he didn't like her with love and that he couldn't fall in love again, like that, she could definitely turn the page with him and focus on Si. So he decides to stay close to her, to to be there when she needed a confidant and a best friend and to help her and Si get closer even though his heart is aching. This is only my point of view. I think everyone should react this way but unfortunately in real life no one would do what Lei did for the happiness of the person he loves ...

About LEI: I believe he loved her from the beginning, he was seen as a character who never cared about other people's problems, but when it came to Shancai he was always there, from helping her up, when she dropped her plate on the floor. in the cafeteria and he argued with SI, as well as when SI says "if you were sorry, there was no need for the Police" he was there taking the paper and handing it to her, MASS his mistake was realizing too late that he loved her, I believe he confused the feelings with JING, she was someone who helped him a lot, and he ended up confusing feelings of gratitude and friendship with love, so much so that JING herself, who knew him so well, realized that when it came to SHANAI, he reacted differently. He was so sad to lose JING, because (we never like to lose someone so close, let alone someone he believed to be the perfect match for him). When he talks about secretly dating Shancai, it felt real to me, as her response was negative he used "joke". It turned out that his love was so real that he ended up accepting to see only her HAPPINESS and also had a lot of appreciation for his friendship with the SI, he was there always supporting, but maybe hoping one day to have some opportunity (shows this when Shancai goes to London finds SI, and everything goes wrong with SI and at dinner the foreigners, asks SHANAI if now that SI doesn't like her anymore, she's going to date LEI, LEI in turn repeats the question, will she? as if he really was there ready to date her, aww a little pain the two of them didn't stay together, Another and more important detail, Lei's LOOK FOR SHANCAI, what a look of love

the writer of Hana Yori Dango (Meteor Garden/Boys Over Flower) did a really great writing. but to think that, this is the only drama where the 2nd lead one is really valid to be with the leading lady in the end. there's no justice for lei even in the 2001 adaptation. there is much more conflict in dao ming si and shan cai couple. he's the leading man but he hurts her in any way. although he did many things for her. but lei didn't leave shan cai until the end. he even saw the pains that felt by shan cai. so it's clear that lei deserves to be with shan cai. but this drama teaches us that destiny can be a bit playful.

I am deeply fallen in love with Darren Chen. ❤❤❤❤❤❤ Especially his smile. 💕💕💕💕✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

I am only watching this drama for Darren Chen

I don't know when Shan cai fell for Si because it shouldn't have! Si treated both of them so badly!! And Lei needed Shancai at that time and when you need someone in your hard times it's called getting help not using that person! And Si literally manhandles her all the time! And Lei needed time to heal after that he would have been with Shancai and also she should have waited for him! It's just fate you can say! Even Lei didn't try for Shancai because he valued his friendship and had a clear mindset and the one beach kiss happened because he was literally drowning in pain and seeing Shancai cry he had a moment of weakness! And Shancai was not Si's property! He had no right! As much as he liked Shancai... She also liked Lei so if he liked her enough he could have let her go and be happy and not give her guilt trip that made her think she liked Si and then her conscience said yes. But I think Shancai and Lei were supposed to be and not Si and Shancai. Idk why the good girls go for the bad guys when they can go for the good ones. Always remember girls choose a guy who treats you right and not the one who loves you but cages you!

My opinion but I don’t like how Ah si treats her he’s so mean and bully’s her 😖 yet she ends up with him 🤦🏽

Only if Si was not so possessive and if he loved her enough he would her let her go and not send her on guilt trip and hurt her so badly. In real life I'd never choose a man who tries to manhandle me. Lei is so much better. I'd rather die for Lei than live with Si just to be caged. Periodt.

Lei deserved so much better. He pushed his feelings away just for Si and the happiness of Shancai. He truly cared about her and genuinly tried to understand her compared to Si who basically pressured her to like him, never listens to her in fights and assumes Shancai can live without him. If Si wasnt so possesive and abusive to Shancai, Lei and Shancai wouldve been amazing together. I think Lei never really liked Jing i think he just appreciated everything she did for him but since it's opposite genders you get family love and true love mixed. So when he came back he was really broken since he spent his whole life convincing himself he liked Jing. You could really see them bond while Lei was teaching Shancai how to play bridge. I think he pushed her away that night when they were alone in the bedroom because he didnt want to betray Si. Overall i think if Si were also a good friend instead of demanding Lei to be a good friend, all of them would be happier. Shancai never liked Si in the beginning but Si still blamed Lei for Shancai liking him, but if Shancai really liked Lei just let them be and be the good friend you always demand Lei to be. THE PART WHERE HE ALMOST BEAT UP SHANCAI ON THE ROOF LITERALLY MADE ME WANNA BURN DOWN MY HOUSE. I was the most pissed at the cafeteria part, liek Si literally laughed and bullied her then was like "Lei i love this girl so uch LET GO" LIKE HUH???? I love Lei so much

At the last scene, when Lei take her hand and give her to Si, i cry so bad😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Yep I fell in love with him. Dropped meteor garden. Watched sleuth of ming dynasty. Fell in love with him even more than before.

I just feel bad for lei. He treated her like how your supposed to treat a women, he respected her,supported her, yet she ends up with si 😔

I think this drama is too much lame in case of Lei,,we know the leading actor will get the actress,,then why the second lead have to go under so much pain?? Was that much important to hurt someone that badly in dramas? Was Lei deserved that? I can't accept it..the writer could give a happy ending in Lei's charecter,,with Jing or Shancai whoever..but at the end,,he got nothing but pain(pain with lovely innocent smile❣️)

It’s almost hard to rewatch the show knowing that Lei just met her during a time in his life where he wasn’t ready to love someone new. Like, they would’ve just worked perfectly but she deserved more than being an emotional rebound that he couldn’t distinguish between comfort and true affection. And if they had time to just work. 👏🏽 that 👏🏽 out 👏🏽 it would’ve been fineeeeeeee. But nooooooo. Si had to decide all on his OWN that she was his. Like a dog pissing on a tree that didn’t consent to being pissed on and then just had to eventually accept it is what it is. lol. Like yes si loves her. He does. But he never once considered her right to decide rather she loved him back. It was just yup this is my tree now. Don’t sniff my tree. Why is my tree letting other dogs sniff it? Doesn’t it know it’s mine?? 🙄 like yeah they fall in love blah blah but it was always toxic honestly.
