SAME. Haven’t played my viola in years. Also haven’t looked up any new pieces in just as long. But this was on my feed today. Makes me want to pick up where I left off
The Hubay Viola Concerto what I recorded is based on 3 different sources. The Morceau de Concert (which Viola part is showed - mistakely - here) the Morceau de Concert transcribed for cello, and the 3 mvment Viola Concerto for Viola and piano. We wanted to present the 3 mvment great romantic Viola Concerto, as authentic as possible, but it was not originally orchestrated by Hubay. So we had to use the orchestrated versions (Morceau-s), composer Lajos Huszár created a new orchestration for the 2nd and 3rd mvment. The first movement is based on the 3 mvment version, using the full orchestration of the Morceau-s. So all the differences came from Hubay himself. I hope there will be printed music soon.
Yes, it was. imslp.org/wiki/Morceau_de_Concert%2C_Op.20_(Hubay%2C_Jen%C5%91) Only the 1st mvt was published. David Popper then arranged it for cello and piano. The piano score at the end of the video is for Popper's arrangement.
No, I don't. I read that Hubay orchestrated the 1st mvt. but only the viola & piano version was published and the orchestrated 1st mvt. remained in manuscript form, so the individual orchestral parts were never made until Huszár revised the piece. Huszár also orchestrated the 2nd and 3rd mvts.
