I just made a homemade shroud for my 12" dob using the black matte foamcore board from the dollar store, plus black gorilla tape. Total cost under $5.00 and I think it looks super cool as I have made it out of triangular sections that conforms to the truss tube design. I plan to build a similar second part that will go over the top of the scope and be reinforced with some plastic parts, to give me a very light weight light shield for the top of the scope.
@@DakotaStarryNights Explore Scientific 12" but I'm watching all your videos just for ideas and to see your thinking. I like what you have done to all your scopes.
The ES 12" is a sweet scope. Not too big and no too small. The foamcore shroud sounds like a great idea, too. Like you said, I think it would look pretty stealthy. 😎
Salutes from México I have found your videos extremely useful and amazing, and If I may, I would like to ask for your advice I would be extremely grateful, I want to upgrade my 10” SW for a 16” dob goto SW, Orion or ES but I think maybe the UL Hubble 18” that is 300 - 400 cheaper its a better option, what do tou think? thanks in advance!
Thank you for uploading. I got the chance to see a rocket launch in 2018. Amazing experience. I posted a pretty fun montage of the journey to my channel.
Has that black Walmart Dance Wear material got a strong smell at all? They don't have Walmart over here in UK so I can't buy it, but I can find similar materials on AliExpress etc but some complain of a strong smell like burning plastic!
The Walmart Dance Wear didn't have a smell that I noticed. I did find another venue. Thought I haven't tried them. You might want to contact them first to see if there is an odor. bigzfabric.com/index.php/solid-two-way-stretch-spandex-costume-dance-vinyl-fabric-black-sold-by-the-yard.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrYa6uIbJ9gIVnGxvBB2KwwcUEAQYASABEgJ3SvD_BwE
Dobs are typically poor candidates for astrophotography. They are alt/az mounted and can not track across the sky for long exposures without star field rotation. PHD requires a guide scope and mount tracking interface which they do not have. You can do quick video shots or pictures with a hand held camera but that's it. Clear Skies!
Hi, Just ordered the UL16 and I like what you've done with that setting circle. Because I lack the instrument currently I'm wondering, what size did you get that circle made to? Just trying to get ahead of the ball game. Thanks
Hey M, the fiberglass ring with the AZ degrees has a 19 7/8" inside clear diameter. The outer part of the ring, or band, is 1 1/8" wide. So add 2 1/4" to 19 7/8" = 22 1/8" for an outside diameter. The inside clear diameter can be a taste bigger but if you go too small you run the risk of it binding on the AZ bearing racer ring. Hope this helps. Congrats on the new glass! Richard
@@spliter200 fantastic, love everything about it. If I didn't own it I'd buy it. Light yet sturdy, mirror is great. Tong' s Costner service was great and professional throughout the process
