I must be super sleepy, cuz I read "it went up there when I was 26" as "*I* went up there when I was 26” and for a moment I thought space travel/transportation has already been available to the masses all this time and I didn't even know! 😭😂
I'm so fascinated by our space observatories, and I'm happy to learn astrophysicists are actively concerned with the engineering and not just the data they get out of them.
Cheers for this update… I’m not an expert, however, with my limited keyboard expert opinion, I believe it’s time to just max it out until it finally gives up the ghost. Get as much science observations out of it as you can… then move on to another new telescope. It’s all about money 👍🍺🍺
Contrary to popular belief, everything privatised has become more expensive, slower and of atrocious quality. NASA is a great example, when completely under government control had missions to the moon half a century ago, while now with all the profit it generates for the rich is still decades away for reaching that efficiency. Another opposite example is EADS in Europe, that couldn't even launch a jet back in the day and when consolidated under EU direct control is the main manufacturer of air and space vehicles.
