Just love those cars. My first ever brand new car bought in 1979 was an Alfasud 1.5 ti (no, don't laugh, it's true, at least one mug bought one!) The rear ends are vey similar indeed. The Citroen really is in astounding condition because, like the Alfasud, they rot like hell generally. In reply to Andy Hopkinson, a scan, in my humble non-professional opinion, is just a starting point, as are the paint chips. You are doing the right thing, spray out a couple of cards and take it from there. Looking forward, as always, to the next instalment.
@WhitelandRestorations
@WhitelandRestorations 2 года назад
Totally agree, always have to do many many spray out cards regardless of how you match the paint. There are so many variables when it comes to the mixing.... Even down to the mood of the person on the paint scales 😂

@@danielrussell446 Daniel, the trouble is when you look back at the Traction Avant, 2CV, DS (arguably the most influential car of the 20th Century), CX, SM etc. and contrast them with today’s offerings, the new cars fall well short. I do realise that Citroen had to “normalise” their cars in order to survive commercially though.

@@WhitelandRestorations That is certainly true. I remember some family friends came up to visit my parents when I was at Uni and I came over to see them. He was driving a Morris Marina and my dad had a GSA. I drove his Marina and picked them all up from somewhere. I was used to the phenomenal brakes of the GSA, so when I applied the Marina brakes for the first time to stop at a junction at the bottom of a steep hill, nothing happened and I overshot the line and finished halfway across the road. A new pair of trousers were required!

If the hydropneumatic system is similar to the other hydro-p Citroen models then they can't be driven in lowest setting as that's 'service low' which means it's resting on its bump-stops and most of the LHM has returned to the reservoir.

It's not just you who like the look of the GSA. It would seem that the designers of the latest Citroën C4 and ëC4 did too, judging by the styling cues they have borrowed. Probably has something to do with the GS/GSAs recent milestone anniversary.

Yes, it has a suspension setting to leave it that low when the engine is running. But that is used for jacking up the car, not for driving. You can jack the car up by putting it at maximum height, putting a jack stand under it, then putting it on the lowest setting. It will then pull the wheels off the ground. The highest setting is only for low speeds to clear an obstacle or something, not meant for driving faster than 'off road' speeds.
@HubNut

It actually doesn't have a low position on the suspension, which is hugely irritating.

Theres a paint place in Wolverhampton called "Jawells" paints that if you take your car can scan the colour even if its old celly and get a perfect match. So if you only want to paint a wing it will blend.Rattlecan or canned for a proper spray set up.Very clever indeed.
