I'm gutted about this pallet as you said goth not grunge I knew looking at nd xeon pallet it was a no go but I really liked the look of this but now I don't know thankyou jen for the review xx
I'm really up in the air about the palette. I like a lot of the colours. The issue I'm having is that the shades are primarily cool, which doesn't flatter me. If I were to wear lavender on my eyes, I would look like I'd been very ill. I rather liked the other Huda palette you showed better. They have mostly warm tones, which is more flattering on my porcelain skin. I think I just talked myself out of the Grunge palette, lol! I cringed when I saw the black lipstick and liner. You're right; that's not grunge, it's goth. And I was never a Goth, even in school! Does Huda still carry that warm palette or was it limited edition? BTW, I've really gotten into Colorpop because of you. I have several mini palettes that I am enjoying, as well as lipstick and lip gloss. The concealers I use are Mary Kay. They have a peach colour corrector and I have the lightest concealer they have. I'm not sure why, but when I use them together, they completely erase the dark circles and lines under my eyes. It's truly amazing! Suffice to say, I'm not anxious to try others because "if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I've found Mary Kay does pair well with quite a few other brands. One last question and then I promise to shut up : do you ever mix eye colours from different palettes for a look? Thank you for all you do, Jen!
Let's all give Jen a round of applause for THE BEST review of the Huda Pretty Grunge palette on YT. The time that she takes to pull out not one, not two, but several other palettes to compare it to is the definition of dedication. 👏👏
Thank you SO MUCH for these thorough comparisons: including the Lorac Noir palette!! I was so tempted by the Pretty Grunge palette, and I never would have suspected it’s so similar to Noir! I bought Noir at 50% off at Ulta’s first 21 Days of Beauty sale this year, and I no longer feel tempted by the Pretty Grunge at all. Thank you thank you for saving me money!
I love that palette. I been using that a lot this fall. That one with Fairy Tale Forest. I wish they would get off the stick and create something new. I always respected and enjoyed that brand.
This palette is the best combination of both worlds and a true neutral palette! It’s got the grays, the browns and the dusty shades, so stunning and definitely getting.
I'm not a fan of palettes as I feel they aren't a good value for me. But this one is tempting. I love the mattes, but it has 6 shimmers, and I know I wouldn't use them.
Jen, u are the absolute best! Idk why anyone watches any other fake "influencer" and get fake, paid reviews when u can come here and get honest, precise detail, full blown reviews, comparisons, dupes, etc all in one!! And then some! Thank u!!!! U are always on it and go above and beyond, every single time. Here's my "round of applause" to u! 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you for consistently bringing in the Stone Cold Fox for comparison! I have it already and really don't want duplicates, You've saved me a ton of time and money looking at new products.
I am definitely in the minority here but this palette looks so warm. I have been so excited with the recent cool-toned trend as I have very fair and cool-toned skin. This makes everything appear warm on my skin unless it is very cool. I was so excited to pick this up but now I know it is another coolish warm palette.
I'm vampire pale with a cool undertone and took the words right out of my mouth! I don't find this to be cool toned, or even neutral, at all; to me, this is a very warm toned color story with a pop or two that lean cool. I know shades can pull differently, depending on skintone and undertone, but these are overtly warm to me.
EXACTLY. Why can’t anyone just put out a full cool toned palette? I’m so tired of things being called cool toned and I get them and it’s mostly warm toned with a few cool tones thrown in. Why are brands so afraid of cool tones? There’s obviously a market for them.
@@stacyechelberger My collection is entirely cool toned so if you're looking for palette recommendations, I'd be happy to suggest some. The inaccurate brand photos and descriptions make me nuts, especially when buying from online only brands; it's bad enough that some brands don't know the difference between warm and cool tones (I'm looking at you Natasha Denona and ColourPop) but with the level of technology we have now, there's no excuse for such wildly inaccurate photos. I just don't trust descriptions or photos from brands anymore so I end up spending an inordinate amount of time tracking down verified reviews and live swatches on other pale vampires, which is never easy.
Well, Jen saved you some money here! Maybe that Xenon palette would work well for you. Or the Colourpop Blowin' Smoke. I'm pretty pale, with pink undertones, but I feel that warmer eye shadow colors are better on me. I do have and use cool colors, but I have to buy carefully. Taupes work well, but gray makes me look tired. Idk - I have medium blue eyes, with a hazel ring around the iris, so maybe that's why I think warm tones are better on me.
@@20thcenturyrelic She definitely did! I am so thankful for it! I’m very tempted to get the new Xenon palette. I’m think I’m going to try and swatch it the next time I visit Sephora, just to make sure.
Jen, we're the same age, and i had the exact same thought about "grunge" versus "goth." I do think this palette is pretty, but it still leans a bit more gray than I'd hoped. I wonder if that black cream shade in the palette would help those shimmers to pop and possibly shift? Thinking about that silvery purple color especially... Thanks for getting this review out so quickly. You are the best! ❤❤❤
Yes, you are so right about the Grunge-thing, Jen! I was born 1976 and had a grunge-style for some years in the 90's (still have that, a bit. Can't fully get away from that grungegirl 😄) People seem to confuse the Grungestyle with Emo, but they are two really different styles. Glad you have noticed that too 😊❤🤗 Hugs and love from Sweden ❤
Great review, Jen! I find that Huda's lavender shades look cool in the pan but always pull warm on my skin. I was hoping the lavender in this palette would stay cool. I'm glad you used that shade so that I'd be able to see it. Thank you for the comparisons, too!
It has more warm tones than I hoped for (I'm cool), but I definitely want to pick it up! I get a lot of use from my Mercury in Retrograde and Rose Quartz palettes, but I'm always wanting more depth. Also I love smokey eyes and a 90s brown grunge look!!
I’m early! Yay! I LOVE Huda’s formula! But I’m sad she just couldn’t help herself and put in warm tones. They seem so random! 😢 I’m VERY cool toned so anything with even a LITTLE warmth ends up being way warmer on me, so unfortunately I think this will be a pass for me 😢 I thought it was going to have much cooler shades and this doesn’t seem as cool as I thought it was. Looks more warm with just a couple cools other than the shimmers
@@JenPhelpsyes! Unfortunately it’s a pass for me! Being so cool toned, anything with even a little warmth and it’s WAY warmer on me. Just like some of the cooler looking shades did for you. The mattes all seem to at least lean warm aside from a couple. I was so excited for ND Xenon and this one but both end up disappointing me 😂 But always appreciate your reviews and swatches!!! You always help me decide! ❤
Hi, Jen. I've been looking forward to the releases of both Xenon and Pretty Grunge. Thanks for delivering thorough content as always. Honestly, your eye looks in both of your videos with Xenon and Pretty Grunge were super flattering on you 😊
You are really an amazing reviewer creator! So through and helpful. Also very sweet and beautiful. Thank you for saving me from rushing off to buy this!
This palette is beautiful and right up my alley, but calling it a 'grunge' palette is a bit of a reach - trying to make it sound more edgy than it is. It's a very basic, cool-toned neutral palette. Which is a very hot trend right now; again, not edgy. Again, love the palette. Name and theming is just a little off for me.
I am very fair and most of the time eyeshadow pulls super warm on me. This palette however doesn’t. I wouldn’t call it cool toned, but it is definitely neutral. More neutral even than ND’s I need a nude one, I have a soft spot for mauves so I actually loved this palette color wise
I think this is pretty but a pass for me. I would need a few more wow factor shimmers to make it worth it. You're review was very helpful, thank you!!!
This is just CRAZY Beautiful!! Had no idea there could ever be such an amazing eye shadow palette after most of UD’s palettes! Sooo beautiful on you! Have so much makeup but really want this one!👍🔥🤩
Looks like Huda just couldn’t help herself and just HAD to add those warm shades. Too bad. What happened to true cool toned taupes and mauves?? Ugh, it seems no one can create a real versatile cool toned palette.
The rosy tone brown neutral palette seemed to be the trend this year.. ND The Nude, Beauty Bay Neutral, Colourpop 11:11, and now this. Which I love yey!❤
I actually find it pretty annoying when a color doesn’t apply on the eye true to the pan color. I just can’t catalogue colors in my head, and I’d likely make the same mistake every time I used the palette. Maybe if it gets duped by Alter Ego, I’d try it! As always, you have the best comparisons! I picked up some of the Colourpop mega palettes because you can dupe the vibes of almost any palette, and that sometimes scratches the itch 😂
That Rebelle shade was insane when you put it on your eyelid! That sealed the deal for me. Also interested in trying those PH blushes, I quite like the gel/ fresh look they give. Thank y for putting this out so quickly!
Such a thorough review, as usual! Thank you! This one is a skip for me, only because I already have so many similar color stories, even in Huda palettes. But for someone who doesn’t, this looks very nice.
I personally don't find this to be a cool toned palette; this is quite warm, even more so than ND's Glam, most of which pulls warm on my vampire pale, cool toned skin. So if this is making Glam look cool toned, it will be overtly warm on me and unwearable as warm tones make me look sick. On another (irrelevant) note, as someone that was into the grunge scene in the early/mid 90s, this color story is not 90s grunge, nor are most of the palettes/looks described as such lately; this is "glam but make it brown", not grunge.
I buy Huda’s large palettes every year for my birthday, this one will be in my hot little hands asap! 🥰 I love her cream marble shadows (especially the matte marbles!) and I always wish there were more! I wish for a whole palette of those! 🤩
Ah! I’m over the ph adjusting nonsense but I’m happy for those who love it 😊 This palette is so beautiful and it is waaay warmer than what was leaked. Both eye looks were gorgeous but I am drawn more to the first “evening” eye-soo bright. / I am still on the fence about this one, I may get it at the end of the year. Oh wow your comparisons are so good! Lorac was a really good one. Stone Cold Fox is such a great palette! It really gets close to a lot of palettes and is such a good price point.❤
Thank you AGAIN! I love the palette comparisons. Judging the color story of a palette is so much easier when it is compared to something I own already ❤
This is similar conceptually to ND's My Dream palette, actually. A neutral/warm color story and entirely different from Xenon. This one has pretty boring shimmers imho and a ton of medium and dark colors which I think will look amazing on deeper complexions but won't accomplish those light, frosty looks that I'd use Xenon for. I feel like we've seen this color story a thousand times over, honestly.
I'd say it's aiming for a modern grunge rather than a 90s grunge look. Black lipstick is definitely worn by more alternative subcultures than just goth these days. Thanks for the review, I definitely think this palette might be a bit of my. And the lip products too
I’m beyond excited for this palette. I saw it when it first leaked and have been stalking the internet waiting for swatches, release date, reviews. I’m definitely buying it on 11/1. I love my Natasha Denona I Need a Nude, but it really lacks versatility and depth. This palette is giving neutrals with elevated shimmer, but also depth and lots of versatility. This is a great standalone but also a nice compliment to the I Need a Nude. And Huda’s formula is top notch, especially those shimmers.
your nails 😍. You are always right on time with the best quality reviews!! I might be the only person in the world who does not like Huda's formula and decluttered the Rose Quartz palette after a short while. I had high hopes for this color story, but you are right, this really isn't a true grunge collection.
You're far from alone. Plenty people don't like her formula. I almost declutterred the Rose Quartz and got rid of 15 Huda palettes 😑that I paid good money for because of how much I disliked the performance and bad shimmers
I didn’t like rose quartz - used once and it smelt off within only a few months. The shimmers weren’t as sparkly as I was expecting based on all the positive hype and the mattes had to be packed on to get pigment from the pink shades. I was shocked at the quality for the amount of hype.
I bought rose quartz and didnt like the quality at all. the colours had a ton of fallout and some colours were too pale for my skintone, same with retrograde, they barely showed up & the shimmers were just barely visible. not great quality... however the empowered palette has been amazing , use it all the time. the quality is great
I find it REALLY frustrating that the shadows on the eye look nothing like they do in the pan. I love her formula, but they need to do some quality control on color I think.
Spot on with the critique of the color story being goth not grunge. I graduated from high school in 1995, so… yeah. Nice shadows but theming is a miss.
Thanks for comparing this pallet to Stone Cold pallet. I really like this Huda Pallet which my jam, but I already have Stone Cold pallet so I think I will save the big bucks for something else since they are really close. I love your channel you are so thorough with your comparisons. You do a great job!!
While I think both palettes look great, I'm gonna go with the HB Grunge palette. I can definitely do a lot more looks with the Grunge palette than I can with Xenon. Xenon would be fine to use for eyeliner purposes, but if that's all I was gonna use it for, I'd rather just use something more affordable from the drugstore like Rimmel, CoverGirl, or ColourPop. I already have the Rimmel palette called Smoke. I also have the Jeffree Star Cremated palette as well. So either way, I'm set. And Jen---that black lipliner could be used as eyeliner or even for doing brows. I never do winged liner, but for the lower lash line, it'd be perfect. Anyway, enjoy your Halloween. Thank you for doing this video bc I've been waiting for it.
I have two Huda palettes but I normally buy dupe palletts. I feel like, with this one, Huda said, “Try to dupe this one, Suckuz!” 😂 It’s gorgeous. And interesting. Everything is so boring lately. Great review as always. ❤ I wish you hade 20 eyes so we could see more looks.
I love comparison reviews. It really helps to avoid buyers remorse. I am so excited for this palette, love the grungy trendy aspect while keeping the versatility for everyday use
That blush is so interesting. I would have expected a fancier case, but I love that it looks silver in the pan. A "maybe" to the palette if it goes on an amazing sale.
The swatches look so much better than the palette! It looks much lighter and more wearable, peachy and rosy and less silver. I have always preferred Huda color stories. Not sure if I like it enough to get it though. I think I prefer the cool side of Empowered?
Wow, I thought Empowered would be more similar, but I'm surprised that it looks SO warm compared to this one. 😮 Also surprised by soft glam. Great job, Jen! Loved this video. Super helpful. 😊😊
I feel like it looks like a Huda palette, no surprises. I feel like pretty grunge is the wrong name. Grunge make up did not have warm tones and although this palette is way cooler than last year's, it is still pretty warm.
I so appreciate that you always compare new palettes to previous ones and include affordable options like Colourpop. It's shocking to me how similar all of the various palettes are to each other!
Jen, Your eyes look very unfinished. You didn’t blend a transition color deep enough for those darks and shimmer. You also have hooded eyes and need to take your crease color up to be seen. Blending is a huge part of doing eyeshadow, one swipe usually doesn’t work. This is a great palette! And you could do stunning looks if you’d take the time as a reviewer, I think it’s necessary??
Oh I was so hoping that you would compare it to the Naughty Nude. That's the one that I was thinking that it reminded me of. I had mostly talked myself out of it and then I saw the Stone Cold Fox comparison and that clenched it for me. I definitely don't need the Grunge.
After this video I'm going to buy the palette of eyeshadows from Huda beauty. Love from Greece ❤️🙂. I'm looking forward to watching another video with this palette of eyeshadows from Huda Beauty, if you could.
Boring ? Really ? This is the colot pattern for GRUNGY LOOKS AS PER THE NAMR OF THE PALETTE. Also i jope you are not giving nad reviews necause of her stance ln the palestind situation.
I feel like I will use this palette. I like the color story and her formula. I love the packaging too. I will probably be getting it so i get the 20% off too 😄
I think I'm gonna pass. I have almost all the cool tones I need from Rose Quartz and I love the Empowered. I use the cream shades as eyeliner often and the jelly like shade on the under eye area for making my eyes pop. Also I have the Rebel Grays from Juvias place....I don't wear silver eyeshadows much because I only wear them during a special occasion, like a night event, someone's wedding after party etc.
I loved the short you had up earlier.☕️❤️ I sometimes react (allergic to something in her formula) to Huda’s formula and zero problems with Natasha D plus I splurged on Natasha Denona I Need A Nude after you showed us, and I think I want ND Glam for those cooler tone when my budget recovers.
I wanted to add a comment here regarding the pretty grunge palette. I have loved and been involved and obsessed by make up for 60 years so I tried a lot. And having so much make up The new pallets don’t seem impressive to me mainly because there’s only three or four that I would use out of the pallets, headed to the fact that it’s 75 there are certain formulations that don’t work for me anymore. Generally the sparkly glittery ones. so I don’t generally buy them. I understand that maybe if you’re younger, I don’t have as much as I do you might be looking to buy this pallet. Well, I finally broke down and thought let me give it a try. I have to tell you I was so underwhelmed that I could not believe that I spent the money on this. It’s definitely going back to Sephora but The point I wanted to make is that I have a 7.99 pallet from Marshall’s by revolution beauty that is 10 times better than this. I wish I could post a photo here to show you the colors and the textures that this inexpensive pallet has that is far superior
Dear Jen, I always like huda eyeshadow pallete however I have huda empowered, rose quartz and jaguar (cool matte). Dark colours never look good on me. Pink shades are always welcome and I do love black eyeliner but never not black lip colour
I don’t know if you will ever see this comment, however, I just wanted to tell you my daughter gifted me the pretty grunge palette today!!! I am so excited to wear this palette With my green/hazel eyes. Anyways I’m rewatching this video for some ideas of how to wear this new goody tomorrow 😍😍😍
I was wondering if you could let us know where you got the ring (cross) .. its so pretty .. I like the style of it.. thanks .. and thanks for reviewing huda' I am allergic to carmine and I absolutely love Huda's formula too I think it goes on so easy .. but I have to be careful to check ingredients... she might have just one shade in the whole pallete that uses carmine and I can handle still purchasing it anyways.
When this leaked --I was so SOLD! Your comparisons are going to save me money tho! I have both Stone Cold Fox and ND glam. There’s enough similarity I’ll save my money! THANK YOU!
What is with the trends. At least Huda gave color. NATASHA went in . I will say they are both beautiful. I am not a cool tone person but I do love a pop of silver. thanks Jen
looks nice on u... just too blah nude for me, shimmers/glitters not anything really different to spend that money. Her palettes are nice, reminds me a lot of the Empowered actually with some Retro.. Got the ND Xenon really different and gives me more choices.
Youre so right I am 41 so I too grew up in the nineties also and I seem to remember the black lipstick come out more in the early 2000's in the goth Era I don't know if I'll pick up this palette I just have so many repetitive shades in my collection already especially for the price but I love thse two eye looks they are beautiful❤🥰
I don't buy Huda palettes anymore (I think I have two) because most of the shades look so much different on my skin than they do in the pan. At the end of the day, I buy shades because I like them in the pan and I want them to look the same way on me. I do not like being surprised this way.
