When I was a lad, Huddersfield had more Rolls Royce's per head of population than London or anywhere else in the U.K. It was run by locals and it was thriving. Things changed in the 80's and became worse when the town became under new management. It's an embarrassment now. A town without hope.
Richard, I was in Huddersfield early 80s. A very vibrant town, great social scene, some great pubs and great locals. I was working in Halifax just before Christmas and we took a lunch time detour into Huddersfield. It looked and felt rundown. Sad, absolutely sad.
Best bet you’be got at owning a house if you’re under the age of 40 is buying a foreclosed house from the bank via an auction, doing it up and praying it doesn’t bankrupt you in the process
I just googled the most depressing countries to live in. Not one of the articles that came up mentioned the UK. In fact they all said the UK was the 15th most happiest and best place to live in.
In Huddersfield there was a building being developed into luxury student accommodation with its own cinema and gym (Prestige Student Living). Just before the students were going to move into their flats they were told to find somewhere else to live as the property was being prioritised for asylum seekers. They had signed tenancy agreements and gone through all the checks, paid deposits etc and a week before they were to move in they were told that the flats were going to be used to house people who came over on dinghies.
And the key part which you missed out, is the fact that the building is directly next door to the College, you literally couldn’t build a building any closer! Whoever decided it would be a good idea to house 670 single ‘migrant’ men next door to thousands of children, really need their head checking, and possible their hard drive..
Government did that because they want to divide break down and erode native cultural identity and sense of belonging, its 100% intentionally done it's only going to divide people further increase tensions justify eventual army I.D. check points in place.
@@elliotease4390 Huddersfield has a Labour council and unless you're stupid we all know about how Labour areas have a high track record of having young teenage girls getting enriched by diversity. There are some really dodgy characters that hang around at the back of the building on the canal. I wouldn't want to be female anywhere near that area. Kirklees college would be best to advise their students not to walk home on that route or stay in groups. Then again probably not because racism. Much better to have diversity and enrichment than to be called a racist.
Yes, Huddersfield with it’s Labour run council and it’s downwards spiral should be used as an example to why voting Labour isn’t a solution to any of the current problems
Labour councils destroy every town they control. The money is so mismanaged and allocated to the wrong places. Probably spent on social justice initiatives and other pointless PC sh!t given the party members are so radicalised and left wing now, or given away in grants to build new Mosques and house illegal immigrants rather than their own community. Labour councils always have homeless problems despite apparently representing the poor. Manchester and Liverpool both have awful homeless problems going on and the council does nothing to house them.
I remember the actual bangers my mate used to bring back from France. They looked like sticks of dynamite. Used to lob them through peoples letterboxes. Weren’t we nice kids 😂
Great place, great bars around the station, great football stadium with the best stewards in England and a great indoor market. She was only the farmer's daughter but she liked her Huddersield
Notice how they never include ageism in hate crimes these days! Awful dystopian city center architecture - so prevalent in the U.K and the malls are so depressing.
You should have gone to the top of Manchester road, there is still the front facade of the Ivenhoes club where the Sex Pistols played their last uk gig on christmas day in 1977, which was a benefit gig for striking firefighters kids, there's some videos on youtube of the gig
All lamb for sale in UK is Halal. It’s cheaper for manufacturers to make it all halal. I don’t know about beef, but I doubt it. If something is halal it doesn’t mean it was produced outside the UK; I’d imagine the majority of British chicken is halal also (the halal lamb is from NZ - it’s a major producer)..
@jjk9374 well you're wrong on many counts. No Scottish meat is Halal. Not all Lamb is Halal. Most Chicken is not Halal. There's no need for crap Halal in this country.
I’ve been thinking to travel to Manchester from walsall and have a coffee with you and just talk to a fellow English man who can speak his mind, communicating is better than miscommunication, I show my dad these videos and he loves them
@@manonfire92 who knows these days man. It yousd to be about the sun and the rain then it was about nurses and staying in. Us dickheads know nothing. Nothing at all.
Been there a few times in the early 00s. I recall being in the Head of Steam pub. Huddersfield is a grim, miserable shit hole and to think I considered moving down there once🤦🏼♀ Quite glad common sense prevailed and I stayed put.
Don’t base the town on the head of steam, it’s like something out of Royston Vasey in there. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a shthole, but not as bad as the head of steam would have you believe 😂
The same story up and down the country. Local councils allowed big corporations like Tesco and Sainsbury's to come in and destroy every high street in the country. No more small businesses, No more traditional markets where people used to thrive as small businesses.
for gods sake Charles please delete skateboard guy around the 13 min mark , if anyone recognises me on the way to my disability hearing il get sanctioned bro .. il get crutchy on ya mush ! lol
Pritchard's used to be called Crawshaw's, they used to do lovely pork and leek sausages, I also used to buy their fresh roast chicken and ham shank. They were always great value. Private Dicks are a Brighouse based band that have been going since the 1970's.
LOL at the Back to the future analogy, brilliant. It does look deserted for a Saturday, sad times and many city centres are like this now it seems. Go to the trading estates on the edge of a bypass and you can't get a parking slot it's that busy. Oh Charlie, the new BMW M3 is not an 'estate' or a 'station wagon' sir, it's a TOURING 🙂(yes I am a sad BMW serial owner).
I've lived in Huddersfield all my life, it is a nice place in most places, some really wealthy areas too, but as you have highlighted, the town centre shopping experience has taken a serious downturn over the last decade or more. It was once a very busy town centre, but these days Amazon and out of town shopping centres etc have won over. The parking in town is garbage, I spent 20 minutes trying to park today, the first place I found next to my dentists could not be used because the parking meter was not working. You made the butchers £20 risher due to this video. even though I have a broken foot at the moment, I hobbled up the road to byuy the 2 for 1 Sirloins, haha
Some nice architecture there, and it was probably a lot quieter due to the trains not running. Been a couple of times on the ale trail and its been busier than that. No scallies about either. There you go, have some positivity😊
Lived in Halifax for nearly 20 years and whilst Halifax slowly improved it's centre, Huddersfield seemed to fall off a cliff. And the M3 being a bit "drug dealer"... you're probably quite right there 😂
The cities and towns up north are no worse than the equivalent ones down south. Portsmouth, Bracknell, Slough, Ilford, Basildon, Gillingham and plenty of other places are no better than Huddersfield.
Go to Halifax Charlie, you’ll love it, architecture is great and obviously the home of Halifax banking, and there’s the fair share of smackheads. Would also recommend Castleford (I know you’ve been nearby before) I can give you a tour if needs be, as underwhelming as that might be
When it comes to rail replacement buses, you’re correct that the drivers won’t check, but in my experience as somebody who used to drive them often, generally speaking the rail staff will, although on a busy Saturday night at Manchester Pic for example, your chances of avoidance are pretty good. On another note, such a shame seeing Huddersfield so empty, when I was a kid, it was heaving on a Saturday, and thinking back even 10 years ago when I was still driving buses, it was much busier than this, albeit nowhere near like it was in my younger days; but give it another 10 years and I’m betting it’ll be busy again, only this time with all the illegal immigrants that Kirklees seems so keen on bringing to the town..
Is Mr. Veitch single handedly attempting to create ghost towns across the North Of England. I watch these from time to time, and I don't enjoy them. Perhaps I am a manic depressive.
People in town always lying all Time Huddersfield always lie all the time because it all lies. I don't know that person because they don't make time to get to know that person. She's talking from the heart. She's always
Thanks Charlie, I mean it mate. I feel you, but not in a weird way. You strike a sensible middle ground, that's thoughtful and very entertaining!! Thank you!@@CharlesVeitch
At 15:39 that ball cam looks like a robot with its hands covering its ears. Kind of symbolic of a surveillance state watching the people but not listening to the people. On the bright side Charlie, it was nice of that butcher to meat you with friendliness and a cracking deal. 😀
Been binging your videos for the last few days and I wanted to ask you to visit Huddersfield, as that is where I am from but not for a good 13 years and over that time it turned from average Yorkshire town to quite the shite hole from what my family say.
The downfall of Huddersfield is the shite job kirklees have done. There is some great parts to Huddersfield but they are well out of the town centre. Used to be great as a kid now all you see is phone shops and pound shops
