RIP Dylan. I just made some Dylan Rieder stickers for myself after binge watching all his old parts recently, and put up a few for sale for others on Etsy if interested: etsy.me/32mCMdu
I love Dylan's style and how he doesn't plaster himself in logo's and just expresses himself in his skating, his different approach is why skateboarding stays interesting.
I hope he beats his leukemia with an impossible. The skateboard community needs him, his like a fresh air in the Nike,Adidas and all the sponsors like that
The scenes with the naked girl are a direct nod/homage to the Syd Barrett album The Madcap Laughs. Those photos were taken by the legend Mick Rock, I'm sure Dylan was heavily inspired by both of this legends.
Please don't ever stop selling these shoes. No surprise that a legendary skateboarder designed a legendary shoe. RIP in Peace Dylan. You will forever be missed.
The thing is: people are upset that he's "trying to be different". He's not "trying". He's just different. And people don't like that. so they get upset at him because they like seeing whored out companies and StreetLeague. It's funny. Skateboarding is about originality and progression. Dylan has both. and class to boot. Really, he helps to illustrate the small mindedness in other people. It's great.
I know nothing about skating but i am loving the aestethics. Literally every video of this guy skating is a feast for my eyes. The elegance, the seeming effortlessness with which he defies gravity, the slight melancholy, Dylan's jaw-dropping swag..perfection.
he was ahead of his time, i was definitely one of those that never understood this different style of shoes/aesthetic in skateboarding until it became one of the most imitated ones for sure, RIP dylan
RIP to both Dylan and Keith Hufnagel I used to want these shoes in high school so bad I couldn't really afford them. Dylan was my fav and Huf was one of my favorite brands. I would try to emulate Dylan's look + style (Dumbass 15 year old me doing a kickflip and throwing my arm over my head 😁) Me and my Homie used to watch this video before every sesh. I can't believe both Dylan and Keith are gone. Both 2 amazing people RIP!
you guys are all fucking tripping. this vid made me wanna buy some HUF shoes and skate like dylan fuckin rieder. DID YOU SEE HIS FUCKING BACKSIDE SMITH AT THE BEGGINING?!
When I started skating, he was my inspiration, motivation. I knew that he knew what was skateboarding. Stylish, powerful, he was someone special for all of us. People hated him, people loved him, but we all know that he was one of the best and will stay. Rest easy Dylan, you will miss me, you will miss us, you will miss skateboarding...
This is literally the best skate/dress shoe out there. The shoe has a stupendous durability. Grips on the board with easy. And looks good on anyone with a stylish skate style.
Dylan was always on another level from other skaters. I never met him. But what I learned from watching him is that he really wasn’t after being “the greatest in the world” and he wasn’t after being super rich. Whatever he did, he did it to his own definition of good and fuck was it good. He was always aware of how others around his skated and he would admit that he wasn’t the most consistent or the most trained skater. He was humble and graceful about it. He was straight forward and most people nowadays aren’t like that. He was never afraid to become what he desired to be, he didn’t care what others thought of him and he didn’t care if he stirred the pot. I think we could all learn something from him.
Maybe I'm reading into this too much, but... Maybe Dylan knew he was dying when this was made. Allegedly he edited this himself, and the whole video has a dark and ethereal feel to it. Maybe this is his own eulogy, he knew he was making his final part, and wanted to convey how he felt. Either way, RIP Dylan Rieder, a huge inspiration and an amazing skater; he will leave his mark in skating history.
Brother, I feel the same way now. Right after this video part dropped he disappeared. Maybe he was diagnosed and he said to himself, let's get one last part in before I can't do it no more.
This guy was 2 days older than me. Fuck Cancer. I lost my Godfather to brain cancer. Diagnosed and dead within 6 months. Really makes you think of your own mortality.
Agreed. One year has passed since my glioblastoma grade 4 operation. I'm 36 and I'd suggest everyone out there to get tested. Technology is awesome but it seems to unknowingly be killing us.
As for the shoe, I like it. I think everyone needs to quit complaining about the video, each other, and what everyone defines as "style." This is a contrived video, but it is marketing. There is nothing wrong with pandering to a certain audience for money. As long as the product and skating are good, you should be able to transcend the over-played "art" concept here. This is nothing new. We're seeing a resurrection of a very 1980's mentality and fad. Don't worry about it. If it damages what you view as skateboarding, skateboarding will die, and you'll be a cool loner, rolling away on whatever you choose to. Sound nice?
This part is so unique. The trick selection was so 🔥 the only people I can think of that put out parts similar to this style are Brad Cromer and Mark Suciu. I wish skating would just stay in that classic Transworld/ Emerica golden age etc art direction because it really never gets old
I can see why people would knock this video. But to be honest there's always going to be different niches in the skateboarding industry and personally I think that's what makes skating strong. As long as there is a large variety of "styles" in the industry then skateboarding will stay and not die off like it almost did in the 90's. Plus its HUF, one of the only few companies in skateboarding that keeps it 100%.
I can't believe you're not with me to enjoy life anymore. You were born a month apart from me. You should still be here. I miss you, Dylan. Rest easy brother.
dude... I know this isn't about Dylan but... wanted to know the name of the dude in your picture (I know he is a rapper but have been looking for his fucking name for two months now)
Dylan is the only person that I know of that can pull off being fashionable and skate amazingly , I liked the way this turned out. It was supposed to have a theme not be basic like every other persons shoe release video like when they slow mo the heck out of one trick and then show their shoe. It was creative and I liked this!
If you want to wash your hair and still look like a greasy "too cool for school", certified Team Handsome member i'd recommend coconut oil. Just the kind you'd find at your local grocer. Put a little of that in there and you will look like you've been awake for the last four days snorting drugs with your model girlfriend. It's what I use. It might not go with your giant "Sheckler" back tat though. Sorry bruh.
As artistically risky of an advertisement this was, this is the most influential Dylan Rieder video to my style in skateboarding. I remember when this video first came out, people were on him in the comments for being too artsy but really skateboarding has no rules. This video is now more iconic to me than any of the channels commenting their negativity, especially considering that this was one of his last parts. I think we can all agree that even the naysayers come back to this video in solidarity and remorse. RIP Dylan Rieder, it's funny how there can be more victory in a death than in life.
The "trend" has been around for ever though. just brought into the picture by someone who gets media attention. Plenty of others share the same interests and style but go un noticed. wear what you wants, skate how you want, film what you want.
I love how you resort to the "ur all sheep if u dnt lyk dis" rhetoric like every other hipster. You're not different nor unique, you're just as pretentious as this commercial.
Jesse Ocegueda How so? Cause I like fashion, and different music? Nice Nike tee shirt and Under armor shorts jock. gtfo How is anyone trying to be unique its called wearing a different pair of slacks theres nothing unique about it, just a different style that I may like and it may interest me to look into other hobbies, fuckin troll. Would you rather the 7 billion people on this planet only be interested in things that you are and only dress in whatever you dress in?
Marcel Lirette If you loved individuality so much, then you'll realize not everybody is going to agree with your opinion. Not everybody cares what's unique/different to YOU. You contradicted yourself. The "sheeple" have been taught what to like, yet, you're telling the "sheeple" they need to find their "own" interests. lol
This video is just him trying to show his relationship with death. He was ready to die , to accept it all , to say goodbye to life. Probably contacted HUF to make one last shoe before he died. As a parting gift to his fellow skaters around the world. Little did he know he endured 2 more years of life , beating cancer , before actually dying :(. RIP
Dylan literally gives no fucks about what you think about this. It's his shoe, it's his commercial. Probably doesn't give a shit if the only one who likes his commercial is him and the people involved, probably doesn't give a shit if hes the only one wearing his shoe. This is art, whether you like it or not.
2021... So many skaters will try and hopelessly fail to emulate Dylan's style. So many people try to fake his style, but it looks plastic, too self conscious, and phony. But with Dylan it was never a gag, or a trick, or charade. It was natural. It was beautiful. RIP
If you watch it purely as a skate video, you might find it disappointing. If you appreciate cinematography, music, and skateboarding and have an open mind, you can see it as more of a piece of art, and enjoy it.
