@hunterv9259
@hunterv9259 6 месяцев назад
i think it can really go either way. if you kill the animal JUST because you want to put its head on your wall as a pointless flex, it's disrespectful. you're wasting something a lot of other people and/or animals could've eaten or used for something practical for your vanity, and that really sucks. BUT i also think preserving the animal's beauty can be a way to honor them, like in the case of a deceased pet, or in the case that you actually made proper use of the rest of the animal before having it stuffed. and museum installations are kind of a neutral zone, because at least that serves as an educational piece

@@hunterv9259 Typically, the most impressive deer are the largest and have the most meat. Every person and family member I know with taxidermy has put every part of the animal to god use. If they kill a deer becaus it’s an 8 point buck, they still enjoy making venison sausage and steaks. I’m not saying there aren’t people who kill animals needlessly, but I think taxidermy goes hand in hand with ethical hunting. ( I don’t mean any insult or pettiness with this, sorry)

Friendly reminder: TAXIDERMISTS DO NOT KILL THE ANIMALS THEMSELVES. They are brought an already dead animal. Usually it's a hunter bringing in their kill, but there are also some who take in animals that have been euthanized, and a few hobbyists who find roadkill. A taxidermist who is also a hunter is not common.

Not much is lost and my skin like everything else will be subject to entropy. Hunting is not trophy hunting, which I absolutely condemn. As a non-hunter I probably wouldn't do this myself however I can appreciate the meaning behind it. *Edit x2* Nihilist thinking aside, I would make a terrible taxidermy. And am reminded of other concerns; the industrial slaughter of and use of adjacent mammals, the 🐄 and chickens, etc. I eat the meat, eggs, drink the milk and don't own a farm. Gently wipe it down, moving the damp rag in the direction the fur naturally flows. Then gently brush through it using a clean hairbrush. Then use a hairdryer with a diffuser (as low heat as possible, if there’s a cool setting use that) several inches from the animal. That’s standard cleaning, do it at least once a year. If you do that and it’s still oily, try spot cleaning the oily bits with rubbing alcohol. Spray the alcohol on and comb through, then rub vigorously to get all the gunk off.

I probably have an extremely rare and silly phobia BUT I AM TERRIFIED OF TAXIDERMY, especially bears and bison (even though live bison are my FAVORITE animal). I'm not scared of almost all live animals but I've been terrified of taxidermy all my life. I remember the local mall when I was 4 years old had a jewelry store in it that had a huge standing up polar bear in the back. I remember I had to close my eyes and hold tight to my parents every time I walked by it. I have gotten better over the past 101/2 years. There's a Bass Pro Shop in my town and my spouse and I visit it very often. Also the HUGE Springfield Missouri Bass Pro Shop is a few hours away and we visit that one several times a year. I'm still TERRIFIED of the bear taxidermys though.

It’s not ruthless. Most hunters kill for a reason. We eat the meat, and use the hide for decoration like rugs and wall pieces. If you’ve already killed the animal for food, why waste some of the hide?

Because of the lack of large predators down here in Scotland, there are too much deer and they contribute to the destruction of forests by eating saplings before they can grow into trees, so down here they need to be hunted to keep the deer population at a good number, and it would take ages for people to let animals like wolves and bears back into the country because of the stigma around them. It's the same for many other countries too, just goes to show how important large predators are
