I would love a rogue-like mode such as Path of Champions from Legends of Runeterra. Start with a starter deck and duel against waves of AI bots. With each win, you get to pick 1 of 3 random cards to add to your deck and empower it. Perhaps you can have themes like D/D/D, Tenyi, or Sharks as a starter deck, and the cards you get are slightly based on those so that you dont get utterly useless cards.

I'm about to say the forbidden word... Here's what you get in Hearthstone for making Legend (the top ladder position, after reaching it for the month it switches from showing ladder position to showing rank relative to other Legend players) - the very first time you reach Legend, you get a random Legendary card (the highest rarity) of the most recent set and a cardback, and each time it adds an additional pack to your end-of-month chest. I've never heard any complaints about "It's not worth it to reach Legend." And I still love doing my Tavern Brawl. Each week is a twist on the game (e.g. one week, the twist was that your start-of-turn draw is guaranteed to be a card you can afford to play that turn) and you get a Standard pack for your first win each week.

One small correction, the casual match matchmaking actually does match you according to your rank. When i tried it in a new account i was being matched vs rookie, bronze, etc. but when i play casual match on my main its always diamond/master players

Master duel is the biggest waste of potential in the history of YGO. It's just so featureless for no justifiable reason. It could have been such an amazing way to play YGO, but they just don't expand it at any sort of reasonable pace.

I mean truthfully a mode thats made to be more competitive gets the hyper competitive players out of the same queue as the casuals, so the people practicing dont have to face a blue eyes free win, and the blue eyes players dont have to have their world shattered. Overall, it's a win even if it's not a "casual focused" mode.

Just give the casual players a Format mode. The temporary Format events have all been big hits, at least going by social media and content creation responses, AND it solves the problem of Casual just being Test My Ladder Deck mode. Make them a single player pool that rotates the format monthly if you're worried about dividing the playerbase rather than keeping them all up all the time. Give it a separate ladder or don't, that can be up to Konami, but I want to play around with old decks damnit! Also Draft Events like MTGA.

Something that magic the gathering arena does that I hope master duel will emulate at some point is unranked modes have 2 different mmr values they combine together to find matches. The first is just a standard mmr value that goes up when you win games and down when you lose games nothing too special, but the second is quite interesting. Every card in the game has it's own mmr for casual game modes as well and the total mmr of the cards in your deck is combined with that standard mmr. What this means is that players with powerful decks are much more likely to run into other players with powerful decks and players with incomplete collections or are playing weaker strategies are more likely to run into each other.

"It's okay to not be the target audience of something" should be like Yugioh's motto, with so many people angrily forcing themselves to do things within the game they don't want to do.

If Konami wants to make a more casual mode, make an "anime" bracket No handtraps, no toolbox, no engine, you register with a specific archetype/series and can only use a deck based around it an cards that support it or are linked to it in type/attribute

I think what could be done with casual mode to help with matchmaking could be tied to Master Duel having usage and win rate statistics of cards, where it weights your matchmaking to make it so that in casual mode you are more likely to be matched with decks where something like the "average win rate %" of cards is roughly equal. Not guaranteed but just that it's more likely that Dark Magician Andy is matched against someone running Vehicroids than people playtesting meta decks. If there were a database with stats I could probably crunch numbers to see if this sort of matchmaking would be practical.

I wonder whether casual players would appreciate having the create lobby system expanded to be a more public gigantic list so you can advertise what you want to play against/what you are playing against the big pool of players.

One thing I would have liked to see is being able to complete daily challenges in unranked/casual matches. Especially for non-meta players, having another mode where you can face off against other decks without having to face three meta decks every four-to-five duels would be nice.

Tbf Master Duel was always targeted for competitve players. They literally said this when they announched it a few years ago.

I still don't understand how we don't have alternate formats in MD yet. Literally just take the festivals and make ladders for them. Like how loud do people have to be about how popular N/R fest was before they just GIVE IT to us? You could even make it a rotating thing. Like maybe this season there's xyz ladder and n/r ladder, next season it's synchros and highlander, links and legends, xyz synchro and fusion, etc etc. like we already have these formats and banlists IN THE GAME. we just don't have an actual ladder for them.

Magic Arena uses its top percentage of Mythic players (their Master 1 rank) to be the baseline qualification for a larger tournament that does have real rewards, like earning an invite to a Master Duel only YCS.

when I was still playing Master Duel, I told people many times "casual matches" are useless, because no one is gonna stop a pro practicing their meta decks on casuals... real casual matches is go to a forum with a dedicated casual group, and make custom matches. The right idea is how to make the pros not care about the casual rooms/matches.

I will say LoL is a bad example of a game that gives you nothing for rank because it actually does give high rank plyers exclusive skins at the end of the year, which are much more of a sign of prestige than a screenshot of you doing a wojak face pointing at the screen that reads Diamond 1

They can still give the top 10 players something. Like what if they got an automatic invitation to the next tournament? Or they automatically get a higher placement when MD does their qualifiers.

I think the issue is in ranked, you wont see a lot of casual /low tier decks like blue eyes, dark magician and heros, But in casual, you'll come across a lot of snake eyes, tearlament, floos and other meta / mid meta decks. There isnt really a safe space for people to play their favorite decks without having to go against a 1 card board omni negate flood gate combo. Obvs you could ban these meta decks and let the nostalgic / old decks work, but then the old decks that were "meta" back in those days would then become an issue.

As someone who likes to play non-meta stuff and never got past gold: the casual mode is meaningless. You play against the exact same decks in ranked and in casual, but rewards in ranked are better. The fact that Konami doesn't have a line to trace "this is a casual format" hurts both master duel and the irl card game.

I would love an arena mode like hearhstone has,i didnt play hearhstone for years but i always thought arena mode was fun. Picking a card out of 3 untill you get a full deck and hope it works against other people is kinda cool,they could even do the same thing pay 100 gems to get in and try to get x amount of wins to get more gems out of it. The only problem i see with that would be bots spamming this to farm gems but you could put a weekly cap on it to earn gems.

That's something I hate in general about online games. They could always add something more, something that would make millions of players stick their asses to their chairs and never stand up again, something that would not even be too much of an effort and that could easily make the companies a shit ton of money. Wtf would it cost Konami to implement an actual solo mode in which you can test your decks against multiple different foes, maybe from the anime or the movies (something like the campaign of the other single player yu gi oh games)? Nothing. It would add a big amount of content, that could attract new players, but instead they choose to keep the solo mode as the absolute shit hole that is right now. How much would it cost them to make more events, maybe some that are a bit more f2p friendly? How much would it cost them to keep the retro formats as game modes? Of course something like this would be hard to keep free to play, but there's still a lot they could do. They could add more cosmetics. Do you know how much would something like a lady lab/Promethean princess mate would sell? But no, instead the game is still basically the same after more than 2 years. The laziness is unreal.

This is basically ELO rating from chess but I do agree with the criticism that getting to master is TIME consuming. Remember that if matchmaking is fair, you should only win 50% of duels you run into, unless you play an anti-meta deck or stun deck. Speaking of which, this new rating system is abusable by stun decks although I say this as someone who doesn't know their winrates, they simply feel unbeatable when I run into them. Other than going first of course.

I’ve been playing master duel since April and one thing I’ve noticed, is that there is little for mid-higher end players to receive a gem bonus compared to beginner players. I don’t like drawing comparisons in discussion of games but back when I played dragon ball legends, I would remember scrounging challenges, pve missions, and co op missions to get 10k chrono crystals in hopes for the new LF/ultra unit that’s going to be meta for a month. The issue with master duel is simply from the fact that it’s much more Efficient to just make a new account get the free 4k gems from solo and stomp on the players until platinum/diamond with a half finished meta deck and finish it once you get the ranked rewards. With the fact that there is nothing for higher end players to rebuild their deck with, especially noting that they are the target for banlist hits. They defiantly need more/better rewards for “good players”

What this game really needs is a weekly rotating time wizard format mode. Where it has Goat, DDT, Edison, Etc. on rotation every week between 4 formats that Konami choses. My biggest complaint with Master Duel is the best of 1 system and old Yugioh while it does matter if you go first... It's not a total uphill battle to win like it is nowadays. I'd play again if something like that was a thing.

TBH they should make the rated mode accessible by EVERYONE, not just people with Master rank. Also, they should implement a password machine that let's you imput the 8-digit passwords on your irl cards to get them in the game (like all the old yugioh video games had).

Master 2 felt like the most competitive rank by far, since i even find myself trolling with random decks once i reach master 1. It's been a while I've been in Gold or Plat, but i remember the same feeling (albeit with better players... on average) Having no rewards is the right way i believe so that more casual players (judging from myself) that only grind up to master 1 for gems won't feel pressured because of missing rewards, so it only leaves the player who truly want to grind the ranks. It's exciting to the point i want to find time in a season so that i can grind as well. This should replace the Duelist Cup Hell and instead every season award spots so that we can have a tournament between those winners to decide teams for Worlds. It works even with Challenger Cups and would make ygo into an eSports if managed accordingly

Its hilarious how so many players who play a competitive game don’t know/realize that a lot of players reach the highest rank not because of rewards but for prestige and pride. COD, Dota, LoL, CSGO, hearthstone etc have super competitive ladders that MOST of the time, reward nothing except a cool badge and a rank number. Just like what Farfa said, these games modes are not tailored to everyone

Rocket league has 4 casual game mods which are constantly there and then a random one which changes every week/event. Might be nice to have Goat, Edison, Skill Drain & something else as permanent and then phase in another. I think yugioh could also benefit from themed events. These events could add new missions, packs, mates and also a Duel event. For example, we could have a summer, fire event, a zombie/vampire/fiend Halloween event, a fairy/light Christmas event, a wind st. patricks day event etc. etc ...

They should make a masochist format. You get 5 packs to start then +1 pack per victory.

My only complaint is how it's not like chess elo. Maybe guess the rate could still work, but it's not gonna be less about skill and more about grind.

I personally think, as someone that does not reach master 1 at all, that ranking is generally a good thing, BUT I don't quite understand why there should be different queues... A Magic: Arena or League of Legends approach "reach rank X, after that you're climbing a numbered ladder and if you lose too often, you de-rank back into Master rank without a number" is in my opinion better, because you don't split the player base, while simultaneously giving the high-end players a reason to continue grinding.

I honestly wish there could be special modes for Casual rooms, like custom banlists or hell, even a way to play older formats that isn't the god forsaken hell hole known as dueling book. I've been wanting to seriously delve into HAT format for a few years now, but the insistence on only using Dueling Book irritates me to hell and back and prevents me from getting into the format

I do think the casual duels could benefit from some sort of system like you see with smogon and their tiers. Obviously it wouldnt quite work on a card by card basis, but perhaps archetypes?

It'd be cool if like top 5 on the ladder got world's invites or something, as well as the cosmetic stuff mentioned. Maybe like a medal that goes on your profile saying you finished at X ranking during season Y.

what makes "ranked" interesting in a lot of other pvp games is the fact that beyond competition, games aren't the same. While in YGO, when you will get to Master and you will face a meta deck. That's a 1 card start combo that can play thou hand traps and end up on the same board. Which will end up making everyone feel like they are playing the same game over and over again forever. And most people don't like that. There's a reason I stay Silver-Gold every season. The rewards are the same when I "climb" from Silver 5 to Gold 1 or if I were to go from Plat 5 to Dia 1. The only difference is, well, the second is much more difficult as most people will play meta decks. And my SkyStriker or Mikankos will have a hard time winning against 6 negates turn one. Also, events are much more easy to complete when you are "lower ranked". Do I think this is a good addition to the game? yes Do I think this doesn't change anything for me? yes Do I think that each season they should reward players with gems for all the ranks they "climbed". So getting bronze, silver and gold rewards even if after reset you are plat. Instead of getting only rewards for new climbs? - yes So, its a good step forward, but not one that would make me and a large portion of the playerbase want to play "more" ranked at high level. 1) not punishing players for getting high ranks 2) allow some sort of draft mode where you can ban cards or something to avoid having the same game every game at high ranks Adios :)

A cosmetic that tells people "You are facing a top 10" would be a good reward for this system. But I do think casual content is something they should look to expand on outside of limited time events. As of right now, I just climb through gold and up to plat 1 every month before getting sent back to repeat as I don't want to go through the headache of deranking from master and diamond for an extra 300-700 gems. (My mental sanity isn't worth 7 bucks) And as the game is now, new players have a high bar for entry and require a high bar for staying. I want to be able to play with my best friend who loves card games, but master duel is too much considering 90% of the cards are useless, remaining 9 of the 10% is categorized as Rogue Deck, and the Meta cards have a minimum of 5 separate URs (not counting the three of)

I have absolutely seen competitive players complain when nee Solo Modes get added. I think this is a dumb update, but only because I think this should have already been part of the game.
