This shows you that these books are not rare.. unlike so many RU-vidrs and whatnoters say. They printed millions of these books in the 90’s. I just went to Ollie’s discount… they had Jim Lee’s X-Men #1… all 4 different covers bundled into groups for sale for $4.99…. They had hundreds of these bundles.
3:00 As someone who had a store in the 90s this isn't how comics came to retail stores. It's not much different than today. What this looks like is one of the investors in the 90s. They would buy 10 of a book and put them in bags just like this collection. This is totally a 90s investor's collection.
I agree, I also had a comic shop in the 90's. Bagging them together was for easy trade with other dealers and the poor souls who thought they would make money from them in the future lol I remember dealers having stacks of X-Men 1 up to their knees, so many #1's you could probably fill the Grand Canyon.
He basically has a worthless collection now. you need to keep those keys with the collection to have any selling power. I will never understand to this day why people get involved with comics and are completely clueless about how to manage them or what they're selling. Mind blowing! Only can hope he got it for free.
This was a 14 year old kid who had no clue as to the worth he's holding. He just wants to get rid of the books to collectors and knows that people will paw through it and cherry pick. I mean, Image books are so prevalent I'm finding almost entire runs in my LCS' 50 cent bins. Well, if nothing else, the kid is learning that it takes time to move large collections of filler. Good luck to him!
Those X-Men adventures are hot as hell right now!! I'm aware this is an older vid boss... just rewatching. Wizard 1 and 11 are literally my grails as I can't afford to go get my childhood back and remember them so fondly.... You hit a nice lick for 80 bucks!!!
Great deal! I noticed you pulled out Harbinger 1 1992, that sells for about a grand in 9.8. And some of those valiant gold comics from the 90's can sell fr a bit as well.
This kid didn’t care about these comics…. So telling for that generation. He knew a bunch of middle aged men would give him cash for this stuff. Good work on the Wizards. I used to have a subscription to that until they went under. Great reading material in the bathroom. Wished I had kept them in good shape. Many ended up just getting thrown away. Love looking thru old Wizards to relive when the industry was booming and exciting.
They overprinted almost every collectable in the late 80s/early 90s. Sports cards as well. If you see a whole room full of 1991 Fleer Baseball cards, the boxes used to hold those cards are worth more than the cards in the boxes. Its a cycle. Companies start out printing small runs until their product becomes super popular then they have the money to over print everything. If you are an investor in collectables as I am, it is your job to hunt the rare. Rarity + Popularity = gold. If you have something that isn't rare, then everyone will always be able to get it for cheap. If you have something that isn't popular, then even if it is rare, there still has to be enough interest for people to buy it. I've had super underground vinyl LPs that only 5 exist in the entire world. Problem? About that many people knew who the band was lol. Good luck trying to get good money from it. Your job is to find super popular items that very few were made. It's hard. That's why it's a treasure hunt!
Greatness video Brother! Thanks for videoing what you saw and what you paid for the books. You got all those books for $80!!!!! So that was $1 per book!!! I need to go there to get the glow in the dark covers you missed and the other hologram books you didn’t get that I saw: The Spectre, Nightstalkers, X-Factor hologram 1st Exodus, X-Force hologram, Spider-Man and Spectacular Spider-Man.
Thanks for showing this! It’s amazing the amount of comic bins stashed away somewhere waiting to be unearthed. You gave him the best advice telling him to sell them at a comic con for a buck each! Btw those Image comics keep on turn up in many hauls! Lol
Wow bro just wow, I'm a new sub and I'm loving the show! This is the best haul for the price I've ever seen, I love the 90s comics and need so many of those! I spread the word on the awesome show🤘 Thanks
I'd have a tough time walking away from that collection without making an offer on everything. You grabbed some great stuff that I'm surprised was still there after so many others had presumably already gone through the collection. Too bad we didn't get more solid info on the origin of this collection, as that is just such a huge volume of books to come into possession of. Great selection of books you picked up though!
@@StickygooseI'd want to look at it obviously, but I'd probably be less than half of what he wanted. You've got to figure in the sorting, bags and boards, transportation, etc. if you plan to make any money back on it, which is the only reason I could see anyone buying it all.
Pretty sure I saw the facebook listing for this. Gotta say, it had pretty much the type of stuff I expected. Glad you could still find some stuff worth taking. Goes to show the deeper you go in this hobby, the more meat you can find on the bone when picking through collections.
Wow, when I saw the boxes (all beat up and stained) I thought this must be an older collection, then all I see are 90's books. Would be a great collection for someone who owns a store and needs to fill spaces in their bin stock. I don't believe selling them at a con would be advantageous, he would need to sell all of them to make any kind of profit given what tables cost at these cons, best bet would be a garage sale, flea market or a local comic show where it is cheaper to be a vendor. separate them into $1, $2 & $5 (if there are any) boxes.
You touched on it a little bit but it's something which I see often when it comes to this era of comics. There are HORDES of these books out there, most of which haven't seen the light of day. There should be no book from this era even worth cover price, period. For all the Spawn, Venom, whatever issues, from any of the major publishers, these things were printed in the 100's of thousands or millions of copies, never read, stored away. Every time I see some 9.8 wahoo pay some ridiculous price for a Spawn #1, I just slap my head. The day that issue went on sale, I was at a comic shop in Chicago and they had ordered/received some stupid number of copies, 10's of thousands. At that one shop I bet they sold more copies of Spawn #1 than there are current collectors. Why anyone would pay anything for that comic today is beyond me. And that goes for everything else sold for about a 10 year period. The only people who think these issues are "worth" anything, are the ones sitting on a 100 copies. This is a second wave of speculators, the first being the initial buyers of these books 30 years ago, who are going to get burned I'm afraid.
Yeah… Diamond used to have a distribution center in southern Illinois near St. Louis. Apparently much of the overstock is still sitting in some guy’s warehouse. I know a dealer who went down and bought several unopened cases of Venom Lethal Protector # 1…. He sold them for $25 a pop.
That is awesome, you sell one of those Wizard Mag 1, and you break even. Im surprised this person has not already taken a half dozen boxes to a local con, he could do that $2 each, for a year and have a vacation paid for pretty much by Spring. Nice vid!
its not that easy..i saw alot of the same comics in the 50 cent to a dollar box at alot of shows plus you have to pay to set up a table at a show,,,even small shows usually cost a 100 bucks for th day so right off the bat your in the hole ,,at the same time you could get a weekend 2nd job and probably make th same if not more money
@@michaelcraig58 fuk that, i would rather do the table at a con than some schmuck that i have to report to on weekends -tho my concern is how to be decent to customers that start fukn w/the comics at a table i rent... and how to prevent and deal with theft when you have five or six short boxes for starters set out know im sayn... thanks for the feedback but i plan on going with the table but we shall see, i figure give a try more than a couple times and see how it goes eventually...
Why didn't you offer to buy the whole lot. Maybe not $6500. Maybe you could have offered a couple hundred for everything. But your right.. he should take it to a comic book show and sell everything.
You got somr great books but i do think yoj could gaven given that kid $200 for all those books and if it wasn't a kid's comics,i would say you got a steal but i am guessing Batman Adventures#12,New Mutants#98,AMS#361, X-Men#266, X-Men#4 had already been taken?
As a RU-vid channel comic book community builder..should you not have paid the seller (teenager) something closer to 30% of market value? Especially, on the multiple comic copies you grabbed, where I can only assume your goal is to resell? Was the purpose of this particular video to showcase how a grown man took advantage of a teenager because that is what it ended up being in my opinion. This is how adult resellers are killing the next generation of comic collectors and/or comic investors, by taking advantage of them. Don't get me wrong, resellers or collectors should never have to help sellers to their money, but in my opinion, as a RU-vid channel comic book community builder and as an adult dealing with a minor, you do have somewhat of a responsibility to do the right thing. Just my 2 cents
Pick it clean, that's what happens when a person doesn't spend any time in sorting out the books, sharks come in and "Pick It Clean", it's all wrong on all accounts.
An example at 9:26 he looks like he's going through them carefully enough. I mean he said he was pressed for time and what kind of handling did you expect for each issue, some sort of slow motion reverence for each comic? Infact please tell me how you would go through each comic on a limited time for 20+ long boxes? I'm serious I would like to know.
I would have advised that kid to just hold on to the books until he finishes college and has some time to carefully sell them at local comic swaps. The first people he allowed in to pick, he should have said it was $20-$50 per book until he starts seeing people take less, then he could lower it a little. Kid really messed up IMHO.
Only a comic youtuber would complain about being "sore" froms flipping thru books. Lol. Secondly, with thousands and thousands of books to go thru, it was pretty disappointing to hear you focus on what you didnt find. Or talk about books you felt "SHOULD'VE" been there. I don't agree with ever saying something should be there when it's a random collection. Not trying to come off like a prick but, those speaking points were odd. And I generally like most of your videos.
