When my brother fought him, neither of us knew what Final Fantasy really was at the time. He asked "Who is THAT?!" and I looked him up in the little cheat guide book we got and their only description for Sephiroth was is 'The strongest Final Fantasy character ever created.' XD

The amount of excitement and fear shown on his face matched mine when I was a kid. I remember seeing him drop in and thinking “What in the pickle-turning, sock-sucking, panda-loading sideways fuck am I suppose to do against THAT!?”

The sepheroth fights were a right of passage among my friends and I. So freaking hard as a kid, no small accomplishment as an adult too. Played through them again during the lockdowns and had just as much trouble as I did as a kid 😅 that moment 24:03, I think that’s how we all felt

I don't know if you noticed this, but the odd numbered ansem reports you had depicted his more curious scientific side, while the even number ones (The ones you got AFTER meeting him and finding out he's the villain) depict just how fucked up and unethical he's willing to be to sate his curiosity. I always loved that once I realized it, because it's just brilliant.

Oblivion has longer reach which can be a desirable trait in a keyblade depending on preference. While it might not seem like much it can be very noticeable in combat. Shorter keyblades can flat out miss occasionally. It should be very apparent after fighting Sephiroth just how good weapon reach is.

Fun fact for you all. Kingdom Hearts' Sephiroth fight is the first appearance of human form Sephiroth with the one wing. This was later adapted into Advent Children and has been a staple for Sephiroth since.

I absolutely love this playthrough, man. Would love to see you play all the games and hopefully fans can help piece together the story for you along the way (since anybody would be a bit confused with the story playing through all of them the first time 😂😂).

Edited to add a _"cool story bro"_ thing: I actually got to see Yoshitaka Amano paint an ink portrait of Sephiroth live years ago, back when I was a senior at Ringling in 2006. He was a guest artist at the school, and I was able to snag a seat at his presentation. He painted a few things as a demo; a Moogle, Vampire Hunter D, Sephiroth, and a character from the then unreleased FFXII (it's one of the FFs that I haven't played so I don't know who it was, just the huge dude with horns from the box art), and donated them to the school. It was absolutely incredible to watch! He also didn't speak a lick of English and needed a translator. During the Q&A portion he gave two answers that were particularly amusing (to me at least): Q: "What made you decide to come to Ringling?" A: "I don't know why I'm here. I just go where they tell me." Q: "What do you think of Florida?" (Ringling is in Sarasota) A: "I like your big sky. I want to see an alligator." Legendary. 😂

FYI, oblivion was one of the best keys in the original game, but for whatever reason they buffed divine rose an insane amount for the HD rereleases. Oblivion still has some advantages though. It has a longer reach and less bounce back when you get blocked.

You didn’t have to show footage of your first Sephiroth attempt - lots of us have been there, we know exactly how THAT goes down. I have complicated feelings about Sora and Kairi’s romance, but I still think the story of their good luck charm is very sweet. Oathkeeper is one of my favorite Keyblades because of how it connects Kairi and Sora. I’m happy that it appears in multiple games.

As a young 9 year old child loving FFVII, seeing Daddy Sephiroth in this game… I had a very similar reaction to your own. I didn’t know what to do. What to think. How to breath. Nor form words. I accepted my fate. When I finally beat him, I was left with a sense of false pride, knowing that even as Sora, I would never truly defeat him.

Legit one of the hardest default difficulty bosses in any game ever made....

DeeBee - Next to Sephiroth there are other "secret" bosses (Total of 5). If you want some practice I'd advise beating the Hades cup first there are 3 bosses hiding in Disney worlds you've already completed. In my opinion, Sephiroth is the second hardest. *Hint something is hiding in London and in the Desert (Wouldn't want to spoil what). Really enjoying your playthrough.

A couple things about KH1 Sephiroth. First off, he has so much health in this game, that it's literally off the charts. It may look like the first few hits on him you do aren't actually doing anything, but they are. Eventually you'll start to see the bar go down, he just has that much health. Secondly, is a fun fact. In KH1 Sephiroth was voiced by former N'Sync singer Lance Bass. KH2 he was voiced by George Newbern, the guy that voiced him in Advent Children and Crisis Core.

Hahahaha that reaction was great. Lyrics of the song begin, screen shows "Platinum Match: vs Sephiroth" and the man pauses frame 1 and be like "nope, nope, nope. I'm noping outta here!!" xD Aaaah, the KH 1 Sephi battle, good old times. I'm not sure how many people know this, but his sword strikes can be blocked and countered. But only by 2 keyblades: Chocobo Metal (it had to be Cloud's keyblade reward, of course) and Ultima Weapon. Those 2 can withstand Sephi's strikes, but blocking with any other keyblade, though it prevents the damage, results in a stagger. A little extra info about this fight.

I believe the one black wing Sephiroth has came from his KH design. He didn't have it in og 7 as his safer version had a white one that replaced his arm and Advent came out afterwards so I believe this is the origin of the black wing.

I honestly can't think of any game I ever played or foe I have ever faced that could instill such jaw dropping heart stopping fear into me. Just what the flip did that scary/hot anime guy do to our poor deebee?!?!?!

Oblivion was the strongest (strength stat) keyblade in kingdom heart 1. it was outclassed when they added the rose keyblade in the final mix, which you played. so it does put a damper on Oblivion, but its iconic in its own way
