Why would you cut the barb off if you were throwing him back 🤔

dude when you broke off its stinger I thought you were going to keep it, ( not bad eating) but then when i saw you throw it back I have to ask you this,,,,,, do you realize that the next predator that want to eat the RAY will have no problem bcause you have removed it mechanism of defense I think I understand that the issue was that you did not want to risk it stinging you,,,,, am I right?

I do it to prevent it from stinging others as well as RAYS grow their barbs back

You are right....he makes a habit of mistreating fish, keeps them out of water to long etc.

The barb will grow back in a couple of months. But it'll be defenseless until then.

Thats a hell of a catch

I wouldn't remove the barb. It leaves them defenseless. Just flip them over , rub belly, step on stinger with good footwear to hold it down and remove hook. They are good to eat if bled immediately.

Why do they have to be bled immediately?

This is the “Outer Banks Fishing Pier” (I fish there more than a normal person should). Nags head pier is about 6 miles north of where you were at.

Oh it says Outer Banks Fishing Pier 😂 I’d attach a photo but I can’t. It probably says on there that’s it’s in Nags head

Is that a bait caster on a spinning rod?

Do any of the East coast piers allow shark fishing?

Why are you using a spinning rod on a conventional reel. Don't lie😂

Abusing any wildlife when not harvested is unethical and cruel. Don't remove their natural defenses and return them asap.
