i went on holiday to Greece last year, and the local markets there sold huge, ugly gnarled tomatoes, we bought some to go in a salad and MY GOD the taste was gorgeous and the texture was like biting into an amazing steak so we kept some seeds and have planted them back home and they've actually started growing! got some huge monsters growing! can't wait for them to ripen up, people don't know what they're missing when all they try are supermarket tomatoes :D

Whenever I’m missing my garden, I watch harvest videos. Your videos are my favorite and soothe my impatient and uneasy heart. When I started watching your videos last year, they inspired me to take the first step for the vegetable garden that I was too intimidated to start. It was exhausting to prepare the tiny 10x 20 plot of land, tilling the soil, removing the vast network of weeds, and amending the soil, but it helped to pull me out of my depression for the time that I had my garden. I can’t remember if it was you or another RU-vid gardener that said “in your first year of gardening, you harvest wisdom and a snack for later” but it was pretty true. While it was a bit disappointing that I wasn’t able to harvest as I’d hoped, I still felt a sense of gratitude for the experience and connection I felt with the plants and with the happiness I hadn’t known for a while, so in my own way, I was still successful. This past fall/winter has been heavy on my heart, but as I sowed my tomato seeds in their seed starter pots, I haven’t been able to stop feeling like myself, the version of myself that loves reading, learning, connecting with people, exercising. I don’t know if you’ll read this, but thank you, Jessica. Your videos have inspired and liberated me.

I have never liked fresh tomatoes. I will eat salsa, spaghetti sauce and the like, but fresh tomatoes? Nah. This is until I came across your channel. You talked about how the homegrown fruits taste better. Well this year I grew some tomatoes in containers on my patio and my life has been changed. I actually like them! So thanks for that. 💚

It's super nice to have someone actually review different heirlooms outside of what the seed catalogs claim. I don't have the space to experiment much. Baker Creek has been hit-and-miss for me, but their Blueberry cherry variety has not only been a prolific, fruit-filled plant, it's been reseeding itself in random places (even in clay and gravel around the pots) every year. I've not had much luck with other varieties in containers.

This is what we do here in northern Minnesota when stung by a bee or wasp. Right away, get a fresh onion and cut it in half. You want the onion to be juicy. Put this on the sting area and within minutes the sting will go away and you will not swell up from the bite. Of course if you have allergies to bees disregard this. This amazes me even now. Love your video and all your tomatoes 🍅

But I still enjoyed listening to your opinions and seeing the 'maters in your beautiful garden.

Tied2TheTube Do you shade them? I’m in Cali zone 9 and only have 2 tomatoes from about 20 indeterminate plants. Turns out tomatoes don’t set fruit when it’s above mid 90s. Next year I either shade or just do determinantes.

This year has been terrible for growing tomatoes, the winter was to long then rain a lot then the heat was thrown at us in the 90! so the plants didnt have enough time to put a lot of flores, if they did they are not ripening, solution? SHADE YOUR TOMATOES,,! My plants are full of fungus, so Im done, here in texas we also deal with stink bugs in june, july, august..... so even if I shade, they get pierced. So, Im trying to save my plants, but my Lord please have mercy of us! its HOT

We've also had a TON of giant tomatoes this year. We also planted late this year because of continuous flooding for weeks on end, so they still have another month or so left in them before they start slowing down. But even our cherry tomatoes are huge; some of them have gotten to the size of a half dollar. It's a crazy year for tomatoes.

I love that your garden loves you so much it sends you heart after heart! Even in this harsh year for gardening. Not to mention the wonderful and wholesome boys you have raised! I hope your and yours continue to be blessed with such massive harvests and much much more. Thanks for sharing so freely. I've switched over completely to only canning up my tomatoes and tomato products AFTER freezing them! During the heat and activity of summer, it helps me to not feel so pressured to keep up with them. I can concentrate of putting away a lot of other things that can't wait. Once things cool down and slow down I can get those tomatoes out and finish processing them. The frozen tomatoes are also great if I want to make a cold gazpacho soup. I LOVE how the skins almost jump off the fruit. Thanks for reviewing all those different varieties! Saves me trying them out in shifts, since I have less space for them than you do. That "Get Stuffed" one is so cool and odd! Disappointing that it doesn't taste as cool as it looks, but maybe that will be improved at some point. We like stuffed peppers around here, and having a great stuffing tomato would be fun. I grew some of the "Creole" and love them for processing. Most of them ripened about the same time and same size, which makes it easy to get them all done together. I'm definitely trying the Wapsi-whatsit Peach next year, based on your review. I have not tried any of the matte or fuzzy ones yet. Hubs likes a sweeter/less acidic tomato, so maybe those will be nice for him. I will also try the TripL Crop. And the Terracotta! So many varieties, so little space. And time! The Robeson is also one of my personal faves. Good tasting tomato for me, if my water situation is good. Otherwise they crack badly for me. Oxhearts are my all-time faves. I love the flavor, the texture (even as a fresh eating fruit), and their usefulness for sauce and paste. I've had some HUGE ones, and often in pairs. The pairs are so frequent that we actually call them "bull's balls". I know, sorry, that is crass. But I've been saving seeds from my plants forever, and I think they may even be their own variety by now. And that is actually what they look like.

Thank you for this video Jessie. I live in Cave Creek,AZ and I actually got a late start this year on my garden (which is just adding challenges to an already challenged area to grow). But shocking to me and despite all the struggles I’ve already encountered I have tomatoes and veggies growing but not ready to harvest yet. (Had 2 zucchini’s so far since June, lol). So watching you harvest helps keep me motivated and helps my “jonesing” for some fresh harvested veggies. Seeing your accomplishments and watching your videos are really teaching me a lot. I hope to go back to blogging about my little desert homestead and speak to those who suffer challenges in zone 9 and 9b. I feel I’m definitely racking in the experience from wildlife to pests to extremes in temps. Thanks for motivating me to press on!

We really need to grow together sometime. In some ways I wish I was still over in Oklahoma. I was in Osage Oklahoma off keystone lake. When you talked about planting the tomato for your dad. My grandpa's the one who got me into gardening, and all he grew was a little shed that had a bunch of pots of tomatoes. And up until he died every year there was a patio tomato. So ever since he died I had to have a patio tomato in my garden. I'm now back to 70 miles west of Las Vegas Nevada.
