I suppose it could depend on the size and position of the maggots. The things push the eyeball to one side as they grow, so there must be some damage.

The smaller 'mango worms' are mostly tropical. Botflies are in temperate regions.

I know. We don't have them in England, yet !

It is cleaned thoroughly and treated with antibiotics and it usually heals quickly once the larvae is removed!

@@beverlyclark1232 i doubt it -- the larvae probably interfered with poor kitty's eye development. Sometimes vets will stitch the socket closed, and the cat is fine with one eye

Some of them are. The smaller, whitish, ones. The others are maggots of another type.
