*When I was younger* Teacher: What do you want to be when you grow up? Me: Maybe a teacher or a vet? *Now* Teacher: What do you want to be when you grow up? Me: A LARPer
Okay I'm dying at the Dein LARP Shop website... In the 'useful items' category: -Money -A bag of bones -Handcuffs I mean... I can't deny this... but like....
the problem with your bow was probably the draw weight, the force in lbs needed to draw the bow. Traditional English yew longbows, for example, had draw weights between 80 and 100 lbs and could fire with enough force to fell a horse. Modern men's Olympic bows only have a draw weight of 45 lbs. Your bow probably had a high enough draw weight to possibly cause injury due to the force it could fire with.
Looking the Epic Armoury website, it should pull at 27lbs, but there is a disclaimer that can vary up to 5lbs in either direction. Sounds more like Momo got a dud, as opposed to a product that is completely unusable.
Jayke Hill just do it !!! You only have one life to live so live it how you’d want. I legit see people walking around in pyjamas, if that’s acceptable then I am sure medieval clothing would be too
@@PrisonerFN-24601 You'd be surprised if you look into historical clothing :) Everything was made to size in historic times, so everything looked pretty great on a person. Also, clothing was very expensive, so people put in effort making it look good :) Modern clothing is often 'one size' shapeless stuff made from bad materials with no detailing.. Just to be as cheap as possible.
I own the Renee (thanks to this video telling me about HolyClothing and saving for a year) and I wear it regularly for no other reason than I want to. If you want to wear it, wear it.
6:57 Mo Mo *calling me a fair maiden* as I sit slouched in bed with my gut clearly visible and my hair in a literal nest after a 2 hour nap That made me laugh so hard the coffee I was drinking spilled out of my mouth and onto my clothes and I think this just adds to my point.
Not to inflate your ego or anything, but the fact that you posted this comment leads me to suspect that you care enough about such things as to be considered a "fair maiden" (if you would like), depending on your definition of the word "fair". Stay frosty. 😶 *Editor's note; when I say "fair" I mean cool mixed with graceful.
Haha, I feel ya. I'm over here with my sweatshirt bearing "Nap Queen" on it's front and laying uncomfortably in my chair because I'm too lazy to move. 😂
I just wanted to also shout out Holy Clothing. I'm literally a nobody and they've been so incredibly awesome to me and are literally making me 3 custom dresses. Graham, the person I've been speaking to through Holy Clothing is amazing and I've loved how patient he's been with me. :)
@@gryffinclaw97 lol I never said they were for free xD tbh I'm looking to start up a cosplay instagram page over the summer so maybe I'll have that discussion with them in the future, but I'm a paying customer just like anyone else. lol its still a business. I was just remarking on the quality of their customer service and how genuinely awesome they are. :)
Yeah- you could find an easy metal one at just about any antique store. Heat it in a boiling pot, and keep some scrap fabrics between the metal and the thing you’re ironing to protect from possible singe and use another clothe to hold the handle to keep yourself from burns!
I don't know anything about LARP-ing but RU-vid recommended this to me and I loved it! The clothes are super cute and your personality is great, feels like watching a friend talk about her haul
As someone whos dad was a huge LARPer, and who grew up surrounded by foam swords, leather armour, chainmail, etc. It's such a weird sentence for me to read. Like, I never actually stopped to think, "hey, most people don't even know what this is."
F S ...Screw socially acceptable. We need to create our own alternative universe and wear what makes us happy!! I'm going to insist that my dentist make me a set of little fangs (love the vampire world) and I will wear them everywhere.
I feel like you've entered me into a brand new world haha I had no clue about all the detail in these medieval events, just knew they existed. You look gorgeous in it alllll really makes the medieval fantasy come alive with everyone there.
never even thought abt anything medieval but i found this video, this is so majestic and fairy-like i love it?!?!!? YOu're also sooo pretty and majestic and ahh i love it!
I love your site! I have a brother, his wife and daughter all are into the Renaissance festivals. Where can I find accessories economically costs? My younger son and his now wife had a Renossense themed wedding and I made her wedding dress, the flower girls dress, all of the bridesmaids dresses. We then found out poet shirts can't be rented without a tux,so, I made all of the poet shirts for ring bearer, groomsmen, and then I made my sons poet shirts and a vest. I totally locked up my sewing machine but I would do it again!! Keep up the awesome work!! Thanks, Diana
Mo mo: you can get different coloured...thingies Me: fletching Mo mo: so I got brown... thingies. Me: fletching! Mo mo: the thingies held up well. Me: FLETCHING! Good grief you’re frustratingly adorable. Oh, and that’s a scabbard, if you don’t want to say “sheathe” anymore, but that’s up to you.
„You can never have enough pouches“ I feel you... Two bigger bags, a really small one and a scroll holder. Yea my friends probably use me as a carrier at some point...
A tip for writing with quills and dip pens: make sure the metal part (nib) is facing up. It looked like you were holding it upside down, which stops the ink from flowing properly.
I recommend looking at several "dip pen" videos on YT - some contradict the others, but you can pick up a variety of tips. Also a lot of these quill kits look awesome, but in reality the nibs aren't the best quality and can frustrate non-calligraphers as they assume it's their fault, but in reality anyone would have problems.
i had no idea about LARP. i actually didn't know these things existed! this is amazing. I always loved the thought about living in a fantasy world and this is it. I'll definitely try this out.
I'm getting more and more interested in attending Bicolline this year- anyone knows how the pricing works? How much would you spend for the week? Between tickets, housing, and food I'm assuming quite a bit.
www.kingdomsofnovitas.net/forums/index.php?/topic/9613-the-basic-information/ Answers the site fee part of it (ignore the parts about guild camping). Usually you camp in things like this, so you'd probably be responsible for bringing a tent or the like. Usually (I'm unfamiliar with Bicolline precisely, but I've done things much like this) you can bring your own food on site and can also buy from merchants/taverns.
I've never heard of Biccoline before and researching more into it, I wanna cry of happiness, so thank you Mo Mo for showing me this new desired passion of which I may not be able to fund-
I love these haul videos, because i'm someone who's annoyingly paranoid about online stores, and big stores like epic armory I trust, because I've been able to see their work in person at ren fairs, but a lot of these other stores I'm always more wary than i should be concerning the quality. So you reviewing these honestly helps a lot, because you tell us what the fabrics are like, (for example, how the acacia dress doesn't wrinkle- that's extremely useful to know). And the fact that you give styling advice too. Like using a barbarian belt as a corset- wouldn't have thought to do that but it looks super cute! So yeah. These are really useful. Your vids about the actual events are really fun to watch, and for at least myself, they inspire me to want to attend them. And the haul videos help for the prep. Cause anyone who larps will need to buy themselves some gear, and you've done that plenty so know all the good good about the goods. So it's good :P
@Germania Kuoni I see that you're new here and perhaps missing a notable difference: Mo Mo isn't doing historical reenactment per say, but rather LARP (Live Action Role Play). It often takes place in quasi-historical settings, but at the end of the day, it's a game and the purpose is for fun rather than historical accuracy. That's partly why this has a much more lighthearted tone. And while the mispronunciation is unfortunate, I'd be grateful for her untempered enthusiasm if I were a seller--it shows how exciting the items are!
Aaaaand... have your string spring off your bow at every shot and end up with the nice scar you see in the Witcher... (yeah that's an archery scar btw ^^ ) don't taper with your bows guys, they're made by people who know what they're doing and if you try to modify them you just make them unsafe or break them!
The new bow you got might not pass weapons check because of the poundage. (My understanding of poundage is 'How strong it fling that arrow?') Longbows will be much higher poundage than short bows because they are for doing the shoot from further away but high poundage at LARP can hurt people even with LARP arrows so you might want to check the website to check if the poundage is safe for humans - the poundage acceptable at my LARP is 30lbs but generally you want to be a lil bit lower than that because if the bow's a bit stiff, it will come up as higher.
Lady Crow basically yes. I am an archer. The poundage is how strong the bow is, so I’d imagine her bow was probably somewhere 30-40+lbs. so even with the foam tips it would still have hurt if one of the arrows hit you
Most places i have been the highest acceptable poundage is 25lbs, and very very few places 30lbs. I mostly play in Denmark and Germany so it could be different in other places.
When you finally start feeling able to express your love for medieval and renaissance to your close family and friends and you actually might be able to convince them to let you buy medieval clothes and items but then you realise you aren't a MILLIONAIRE
If possible I would recommend not taking the quill to a pirate event if it's like the last one. The salt in the air from the ocean can cause quicker rusting to the metal tips.
"Syke! Poisoned your glass! You killed my father!" Lol love it Momo❤️ Plus, I have a calligraphy set from the same company (as in, the same packaging and all that, I doubt it is from Dein-Larp-Shop) and mine has the same patterns in the metal but the feather is red. Mine is actually super simple to write with, and I also got a 'How to do caligraphy' book for Christmas.
This is just incredibly awesome! Especially considering your recent videos declaring how hard it is to produce what you feel to be (and honestly is) good content under such tough monetary circumstances. Your Patreon and Ko-fi accounts are seeing more use. (You didn't plug them enough! Folks, please support!) You're getting sponsors that HOOK YOU UP so you can really live the in-depth LARP life that we want to see and experience. This is great! It makes my heart happy to see this success. May your views, subscribers, sponsors, supporters, and experiences all continue to expand!
I find it hilarious that I just subscribed and the video notification came up! Luv u and ur vids u are basically me when I grow up, btw thank u so much Mo Mo, I can’t wait to start to larp, and go to this event (I also have a memory of a goldfish so I already forget how to spell this event)
Mo Mo you are really good at making people feel accepted. I almost cried when you said that you could put the medication in that bag if you took it because no one ever talks about things like that and it makes me feel accepted that you talked about it thank you so much.
Check out Ruth Goodman's shows. She and a couple of her archeologist/historian friends live a year in different periods including the Tudor period (XVIth c)
RU-vid just recommended this to me and I was wondering: Where did you get your cape? (The green one you know - because it looks FREAKING COOL and I need one in my life tbh.)
I have been binge watching all your videos. I have lived right by TRF my whole life and been a handful of times but always whent in jeans and a T shirt and you have difnantly inspired me to step out of my comfert zone and go in character!
MOMO put your finger down before you fire an arrow, it's fine with the plastic fletching(that's the word you were looking for) but on a real arrow or any arrow with individual fletching, they have been known to go into fingers
Ahh yes, water. The biggest thing they yell at you about at Ren Faire orientation. If you don't have a water container, you'd better be real good friends with pickle guy or be a god.
Yes I wonna see more please I’m 72 years old and my husband and I use to go to many of the festivals. But he passed away in 2018 and now I don’t even go anywhere. Lost all my stuff some one like them more. So sweet madden have a good time . Hope to meet you sometime. I have a gift for you .
Loved the clothing and the huge corset belt. Very nice :) I'm more of a girlie girl, so I would be just watching the battles, rather than engaging. Wandering around eating, checking out everyone's attire. Btw, new subscriber :) I enjoyed your video
I’ve wanted the Holy Clothing Renee since I saw this video last year and I just ordered it finally!! Thank you for helping me get closer to my ultimate goal of becoming a fair forest maiden ✨🌿🌸
9:00 Oh look, it's my butt! XD Update: I'm watching this while wearing a fancy spa mask thing where I'm not supposed to move my face but you keep making me smile. How dare.
Super! I love Epic Armoury! I did not know about Holy Clothing before and now I'm going to peruse everything. I'm doing a medieval themed wedding so this should be great for looking for bridesmaids dresses. Thank you for sharing!!
All this stuff looks so cool! Seeing the details and work that goes into larping costumes is always really fun. As someone who loves Rennaisance faires, I'm really interested in going to Bicolline in the future now... and I'll probably want to buy all the things from these stores.
Me: finally sitting down to write after procrastinating all the day My cell phone: has a notification of momo Me: **throw all away and go for hot chocolate and yells** IM THE HAPPIEST HUMAN ON EARTH!!!!
You hooked me in at midevil clothes. And renaissance Festival. I just subscribed and I love your videos so far I can’t wait to go through the playlist. And to see the rest
I can't compare this to your other videos because I haven't watched them yet, but you're super adorable and this was fun to watch. So thanks for sharing your haul, and reviews of stuff!
since im new to all this larp stuff its really nice not only too see someone being like "these are good products" but like you took them to a big event and stuff! and excited! its rad!
You are just- goals for my future. You’re so adorable and stunning in such varying styles! I wish I could LARP and stuff but it has such a reputation where I live, and I’m also swamped with homework... anyway, keep doing you and making these really cool videos! Thanks for being awesome!
I am too young to go and larp, so instead of going out and dressing up as a medieval character my friends and I write our selves as one. I do love your videos because it gives me an idea of what to do when I get older as well as inspire character design choices. Keep up the good work! Larping and role playing is honestly so underrated and I love what you do
I must thank you. Because of this video I learned all about Holy Clothing and now, after saving for a year and a half, nearly two years, and arguing with myself about whether I should buy them or not, have purchased two dresses from HolyClothing. I bought them three months ago and Have worn each at least six times since getting them so thank you. This is the best advertisement they could have had.
Ok I'm like lowkey mad at youtube, because HOW HAVE I NOT HEARD OF YOU BEFORE!!!!!! Like I'm literally obsessed with medieval stuff, or like ren fairs, and larping, like wth youtube get your ish together! but I'm so unbelievably excited now that I have found your channel. I don't really dress human during ren fairs, seeing as I have a satyr half suit I made, and love, so I normally just go as Katalyn, my satyr (Not to mention I host a show for my ren fair as her, so I really don't have much of a choice.) But let me tell you if I did I would have all of these sites saved to my bookmarks, but I'm definitely saving dein larp shop, seeing as I have the same problem of I always get dragged out of my immersion when I have to use a paper plate, plastic utensils and so on. Ahhh but i'm so excited for your content, You're awesome!!!!!! (apologies if I sound droney, I get a bit carried away when I'm excited.)
That's how I felt when I found her in a search for College of Wizardry info. I'm sure satyrs could always use gear too. I'm curious now though. Is it a semi-stilt kind of deal, to simulate the goat legs? :O
Andrew Jenkins it’s more like padding to give the illusion of the extra knee, very similar to how you would make a digitgrade fur suit but it only goes up to my waist.
Ohhh, okay... man, that's more work than I've put into a costume. ...I bought fabric, then never used it... I should really motivate myself to get involved in something.
Andrew Jenkins I’m the type of person who once I have a thought about something I can’t stop thinking about it until it’s done, so I worked on that puppy for two months until I was happy with it. I love it to bits, because of the amount of work I put into it.
