The Aussie Fisherman Greg, fishing for crabs in crocodile infested muddy mangrove creeks, in North Queensland waters.
I have my favourite spots in my area where I crab, and when I get three giant mudcrabs in a crabpot I am really happy.
We have to release under size and female mudcrabs in Queensland.
You probably saw I have painted my crabpot floats pink. Not many people have pink floats. That's so people can't say they thought that the pot was their's. That was the excuse some of the thieves used in the past when caught handling other people's crab pots. Since I placed trail cameras in the mangroves of the creeks where I crab, we no longer have these thieving mongrels robbing the crabs out of our pots or stealing our crabpots. Before the cameras it was a major problem, it was costing me a lot of money.
I have showed you in this video how to tie up the bucks ( male mudcrabs), and how to check if the crab is full of meat. If the crab is hard under the body it will probably be full of meat.
I use a lot of different types of bait for catching mudcrabs, but the blackjew fish heads are really good, just need to split them in half.
The day before, I saw this massive crocodile lying on the mudbank. In the area where I do most of my crabbing I see these guys most days. I worry about people walking along these mudbanks casting nets for fishing bait. You never know when there could be a monster crocodile waiting for you. You have no chance if one grabs you.
