HUGE Octopus tako BENDS speargun shaft while Spearfishing

I think you have watched too many youtube videos lol. Not every octopus acts the same. Everything was tried and I Didnt loose the shaft I was able to straighten it.

​@@Gearsub I've never come across a tako that didn't act the way Andrew described, as long as it was in its hole. I have however seen a video where the tako had a back entrance that it used to try escape. I assume Andrew is also from Hawaii cause he called it a tako, so maybe it's different over here than wherever you filmed this. I know some species act differently.

@@grant5864 yes it could be the species acting different and this was not a small octopus like I see most people catching on RU-vid and Instagram. The size could have to do something with the way it was behaving as well

He's quite frankly right there is a easier way. Yes bigger tako are stubborn, you still don't just shoot off the back. The RU-vid videos you see is in shallow water where the biggest you see is probably 8# which is rare in the shallows. When you hit deeper water you can find 8-15# octopus. There are 3 types I dive for, all act the same. Big, small, different colors. I typically would not use a speargun in the first place it's a waisted shot. Three prong always works best because of the dynamics of the tip seems more threatening than a single point. When in doubt 3 prong the mouth lol literally lol. All octopus's main weapon is it's teeth when threatened in fight or flight responses. It literally fights, looses it's leg then inks then digs by that time the predator is highly discombobulated due to the effects of the ink and still moving unattached leg. Octopus are really smart, humans are smart too. Enough with the nat geo, nice catch bro.

Hahah no way that’s hilarious. Yes I guess I was just lucky, I wasn’t even looking for one. I just saw it move and decided to take that shot. It was the most difficult thing I dealt with under water ever. In short, the first ever octopus I saw I shot it and the first ever mullet I saw I shot it and it was a 3-4kg one as well. My dive buddy caught mullets frequently but never anything that big lol. I guess I just got lucky nothing else.
