This is the power inverter in my off the grid setup.
It was the cheapest money can buy for the rated capacity

If you are interested in this inverter on Amazon, you can use this affiliate link. It is far more expensive than going directly through Sigineer however:
amzn.to/3dEMw78
www.sigineer.c...
This full sine wave power inverter was designed with top quality and durability in mind and is built to survive 10+ years in the harshest conditions (and has met and exceeded those expectations).
It is commonplace to use a fuel-powered generator to power tools and appliances off-the-grid, but this is a terribly inefficient and environmentally harmful way to make AC power due to the carbon dioxide emissions.
You can save the planet by switching to a green power inverter and at the same time save your wallet too if you’re buying our cost-effective 12000 watt inverter as it is a three-in-one product: power inverter, battery charger and transfer switch.
The 12000 watt inverter gives out 300% surge power of 36KW for 20 seconds to meet your household or business’s energy needs, meaning, you no longer have to oversize inverter wattage to meet high surges from loads, less initial investment.
Our full sine wave 12KW inverter works with very little power loss, outputs an average THD of 3% , its idle consumption is 180 watts, and its peak DC to AC efficiency is notably 90% .
It will significantly outperform any other competing 12KW inverter models in terms of operating costs over the long-term as it reduces battery discharge cycles and prolongs battery life.
The built-in transfer switch allows it to automatically switch between battery bank and shore power (or generators) with a transfer time of 10 mili seconds.
If you are using a generator instead of utility power as backup, the auto generator starter on the full sine wave inverter will automatically start the generator when battery voltage is low enough.
It gives emergency backup power for your residences and business or reliable electricity to your hunting cabin or off-grid vacation home.
It is built-in 120 amp battery charger uses AC power, from the grid or from a generator, to recharge a battery bank.
This UL 1741 compliant 12KW inverter is capable of outputting 12KW at 40 degrees Celsius and withstanding thermal fluctuations because of its over-temperature protection and thermally-controlled fans.
It’s protected from humidity or airborne dust and dirt thanks to its conformal-coated (or “marine-coated”) boards.
This UL 1741 compliant 12000 watt inverter is split-phase, it requires a 240Vac input (single-phase 240Vac or two hot lines of 120Vac), and will output 120 or 220/230/240Vac at 50 or 60Hz. The output winding is center-tapped and the center tap connected to a grounded neutral.
Every percentage of power efficiency matters in large power systems, a low efficiency inverter saves you pennies at startup but steals pounds away from you in the long run.
Make the right choice when build the next renewable power system for your sustainable living.

Great set up threw out the board. One thing I am concerned with is your actual power input capacity. As per your load storage capacity, your input is under optimal, wich leads you to run your generators excessively. As the price of solar panels is very much affordable these days, my suggestion is to increase your solar aray by at least fifty percent. It is a easy doable remedy for you, as your set up is perfectly geared for it. Good luck and keep inspiring RU-vidrs!!

Wow that's a nice clean setup. Reminds me a lot of a telco central office power plant. Too bad the inverter is so susceptible to blowing though, but at that price that is a steal, I would setup a secondary one where you can transfer everything over. 8kw Outbacks are like 7 grand. :o Looking at eventually living off grid and I want lots of inverter capacity so I may look to see what it takes to build my own.

I have been running off grid now for 7 years. I used 22mm soft copper water pipe as my bus bars and flattened it about 30mm to insert a bolt through whenever I wanted to put a connection. Insulated with 25mm split flexible conduit. I have two low frequency inverters one 15kw and the other 10kw of 48v. I am running two households with electric stoves, infact the only thing I changed was the light bulbs to led and added 3 x 150l geysers, 5 in total. Storing energy in hot water, works great. I do not have solar geysers. 72 x 285w panels and five solar charges. 3 x 60 Amp and 2 x 100 Amp. 1500Ah deepcycle lead acid. Each battery set fused to the bus bars and all charge controllers with circuit breaker disconnection including the two inverters. Now that you know what I have on my bus bars it is safe to say that they do not even get warm and the voltage on either end of them is less than 0.1 volts. Hope this helps you with your setup for off grid.

I have this inverter running my whole house off a 40kwh LiFePO4 battery stack which can be charged either from the grid or a 16kw single generator. I am concerned that yours blew up doing something seemingly innocent. My understanding is, under a heavy load, transfering from charge mode (like if the utility is still operating) to inverter mode (like if the power grid fails) will blow the inverter? It sure seems like that should be covered under warranty. That's the whole point of having this inverter/charger with auto transfer switch. Am I missing something? I've been very happy with this setup so far.

Disconnect switch with 450 amp fuses. Not a breaker. The transfer switch on the side of our house would work for that as it is huge. It can handle 600 Amp fuses and if needed, with the addition of a third leg kit, 3 phase 480V at 600 Amp. It is very lightly loaded at 240V 200 Amp. Contacts don't burn that way. :-) Now as you have open buss bars, you could pay a visit to a railroad scrapper and get a battery disconnect switch from a 1st generation locomotive. They were knife switches that had fuses after them. And a long handle so that you weren't near the switch when you operated it. They were 64VDC nominal ( 72v when charging ).

Nice but 180 W idle consumption. I have a 6 kW Power Jack (which means it is about 3 kW for some minutes) and it takes 20 W idle (24 V input). I am very happy with that but it has a toroid transformer and I was thinking about that when I saw the transformer inside the inverter. Granted this is a much stronger inverter but idle power consumption shouldnt be taken lightly on. That continuous power draw makes a difference in the long run. Especially on cloudy weeks. Have you considered having two inverters? One that takes low loads and one for high loads? That will also give you a spare in case one brakes. Dont know how to connect them cleverly though. Impressive system and thanks for sharing.

1:28 connecting live bus bars with your bare hand, literally gave me a sick feeling in my stomach. Makes no difference if it's "only" 48VDC, it needs to be instinctual to NEVER touch ANY live part, and to assume all parts are live until tested otherwise. Also, no means of disconnect and no overcurrent protection for your battery bank? I hope you're ready to come home to a pile of embers someday. Just my observations as a commercial electrician.
@JamesSimmons
@JamesSimmons 5 лет назад
"cables stripped back for heat dissipation" LOL that's the best thing I've heard yet! All this time I thought that was just crapy workmanship! Why don't you size your wire right, and torque your terminations correctly, then you won't have to worry about "heat dissipation" XD.

"plain and simple, I blew it up" LOL WHY AM I NOT SURPRISED?! Only 5 minutes it, and already so much good!
@HighTechLab
@HighTechLab 5 лет назад
If you are a commercial electrician then you know as well as I do the weak link in any system is the termination. If you strip it back like that then you have a better chance upon a visual inspection to verify that there is not heat building up and causing the insulation to burst into flames.
@JamesSimmons
@JamesSimmons 5 лет назад
@@HighTechLab absolutely not, as I said terminations should be torqued to spec (which BTW doesn't mean just tighten and done with large dia. cable, as it needs to be "wiggled" to ensure all the strands compress into the lug), the proper antioxidant used, and then double checked before energizing. Anything stripped back more than a 1/4" beyond the lug is extremely unprofessional looking, and more importantly a danger to anyone servicing equipment down the line and a hazard for accidental shorts. A properly prepped and torqued termination will NOT get warmer than the temp. rating of the insulation, if it gets even close you have an improperly done termination. An electrician would rightfully get kicked off a job on the spot for stripping half of what you did. It would show him to be totally inept, or apathetic, either one is not acceptable in this trade.

Tyler - I work w/ HTL on engineering of systems & wanted to let you know that we are looking at alternative inverters in the 12+ KW range. The reason is these 2 TI reference designs in use (sigineer and foxpower) are incredibly wasteful due to their transformer designs. The one running here uses 350W at idle, 24h per day as we can not shut off power due to the 24x7 uptime requirements. So the first 8 KW-h per day goes only to heat the transformers. Then there's the cost to cool the insulated room of said heat. There are other designs capable of 6-10x lower power waste due to improved transformer design, but there is also a bunch of junk being sold to watch out for. Watch here in the next 2 months and you'll see some new technology entering the famous electrical room!

I am trying to run my central A/C on this unit, but I'm not sure anymore, my A/C is 8.79kW but the surge wattage is or arount 48kW, do you know if there's a way to increase the surge wattage, or another type of inverter
@michaelharmon6115
@michaelharmon6115 5 лет назад
I start a 3 1/2 ton central HVAC with one of these units. Had to put an optional "Hard Start" capacitor on the AC compressor. I can't verify the unit can generate anything over the 12 KW as rated. Any overage beyond that just tripped the output off.

I have connected the solar panels on my inverter but it is taking power from batteries and not solar, can anyone assist?
@svilponis

Inverter should take power from batteries, not from solar panels directly. Panels can't handle providing necessary power.

In spite of the Energy Policy Act of 2004, my utility company refuses to configure my meter for net metering, which complicates my objective (supplementing my grid-tied system with solar / IC generator). Can the inverter in your video be configured so that the meter recognizes (and bills for) only the electricity passed into the inverter?
@HighTechLab
@HighTechLab 6 лет назад
+Marc Johnson it can supply all loads from battery power and if the batteries get low auto transfer to utility power, charge the batteries, then transfer back to battery power. You would have to put all loads on the output of the inverter and configure the dip switches properly
@Marc9889
@Marc9889 6 лет назад
Not a bad approach, but so as to avoid buying batteries, my first choice would be 80/20 (solar/utility) during the day and 100% utility at night. Can the inverter be configured to use grid power to make up the difference between the total consumed power and the solar contribution? Thanks very much for posting.
@HighTechLab
@HighTechLab 6 лет назад
Marc Johnson no, this model can only get power from one source at a time.

It's actually a nice way of doing it as it makes it easier to add more connections to them such as more DC loads, battery banks etc. It's a central super low resistance path that everything connects to. Similar to how telcos do it actually but they use copper. Aluminium works too though. Personally I would have kept them on the ceiling though, it makes me a bit uneasy having them so close together and within reach. You can fit a pop can nicely between those two. :o But i have seen busbars like that within reach even in telcos... usually they put a transparant plexy glass over though.
