If you look carefully the gear actually collapsed on the a380 the frictiion would have stopped the aircraft much faster which was proven on the air canada plane running dry incident

Because dont know if when Swiss said "The Spanish manafuctuer is the best" if that was a joke or not. Because Britian France, Spain, and some other country (cant remember) are part of Airbus.

If you slam into the runway, as opposed to "buttering the bread", a significant amount of the energy is absorbed into the airplane. An example of this would be to jump off of a few stairs (stay with me). Jumping from higher steps causes a bit of the person's forwards energy into falling faster. Apparently (according to a video of a so called "pilot" on the internet) this is the cause for a few rough landings...cough *RianAir* cough Edit: I forgot to mention that this would make the total landing distance smaller...
