From watching other people, only turn on the water when drilling through rock to make it cheaper as your money goes down as you drill through, this should help you get to 100m down and beyond.

Since you asked for suggestions, I've seen more success by those that use tiny scans once or twice before doing a long pipe to the bottom of the screen. It wastes a little money, but not nearly as much as drilling through rock (unless you bring a LOT of dynamite). It isn't foolproof, but it does seem to help avoiding most of the larger rock areas. Also, turn the water off until you need it. Thanks for another video *EDIT* I would recommend not making too many pipes to tier 3 size unless you have the horses speed boost. They simply can't keep up with that many

I've found moles with upgrades help a tonne if you use enough. For a normal map if you use 6-9 moles in a grid pattern, they almost give you a good enough picture to see where to use rigs and water pipes. For the dig deeper map I use moles spaced apart going downwards in a line. Again, helps you figure out where rock, hard rock and empty space is reasonably. Hardly ever use scans in that map as I've found them to be bad value compared to moles. Closing the valve to save your water for going through rocks is necessary as the deeper areas do seem to have more rocks. Also if you want to cheese, buy all the explosives you can afford because going in long straight pipes is cheaper than lots of small pipes trying to go around rocks.
