The color of the plumage: Speckled brown feathers with white stripes. Males are slightly darker than females with a brown head and a plain bright breast, clearly visible in the photo. Females are lighter than males with pock-marked breasts.
Live weight: female-380-480 g, male-300-380 g.
Egg production: ~250 eggs per year.
Quail breed Pharaoh European is considered the most common among quail breeders in Ukraine and Russia. Due to the relatively small need for feed(25-30gr.) and the unpretentiousness of young animals. Perfect for a beginner quail breeder. Laying begins at 50 days of age, the egg is on average large (14-16 gr.) Sometimes up to 22 grams, in our case up to 32 grams, mainly with large black spots.
It has a good increase in meat, with little cost for feeding. At 50 days of age, with proper care and feeding, the weight of the carcass is ~ 250 gr. (40 days-200 gr.). BUT it also has its disadvantages associated with dark plumage, which gives a dark pigment to the skin around the abdomen in females and dark ustyuki if the slaughter occurred during the molting period of the bird.
Males of this breed are very active, which is very good for egg fertilization (up to 95%). With proper selection of incubation material and incubation mode, the yield of chicks is up to 90%.
History of the origin of the quail breed Pharaoh.
The Pharaoh quail breed was bred in the American city of California, by the famous American breeder Albert Marsh (1958 - 1960) on his farm "Marsh". As a result of painstaking and long selection and selection of quails of different breeds: "mute quail" or "Japanese quail" (Coturnix japoni) and quail ordinary (wild) managed to bring the breed Pharaoh.
It took years to create the Pharaoh meat breed. Breeder Albert Marsh set a goal to bring out a large meat breed of quail. In poultry farming, the breeding of such birds is very profitable and profitable. The advantage is that it is easy to care for quails, it does not require a lot of space - the return from quail is delicious and healthy for humans meat, eggs and natural fertilizers.
From ordinary quails - Pharaoh differs in the large size of the egg (the average weight of the egg is 15-16 grams) and a good large carcass (weight 200-260 grams) - for cooking.
Pharaoh quail (selection of Spanish) has been bred as a meat breed of broiler chicken. Breeders of Spain, by selecting and selecting the largest individuals for several years, increased the mass of the American pharaoh with the declared Albert Marsh (female weight 300 grams to 450-480 grams)
At first, Pharaoh quail breeding was carried out only in the United States. Then the bird was brought to Europe, Asia, Australia and the CIS countries. The weight of an adult female Pharaoh (selection of Spain) with proper and balanced feeding can reach more than 480 grams, and the weight of a quail carcass is more than 250 grams. However, you need to understand that quails weighing more than 500 grams are not suitable for breeding, they are used only for meat.

The quail has brown with white and black flecks of thick plumage, a very strong build. Broad back, bulging chest, short neck. The eyes are dark and large.
The meat of quail Pharaoh (selection of Spain) has a white-blue hue and is very tasty and healthy, it is a very valuable property for cooking.
Another advantage of the Pharaoh (selection of Spain), is the consumption of compound feed as much as other breeds, despite the fact that they are larger. Small quail Pharaoh (selection of Spain) are born weighing 12 grams, quickly gain weight and grow better, unlike other breeds of quails.
The breeding stock (blood) of quails is updated every 5-7 months, incubation eggs and young birds are imported from large breeding farms in Poland, Germany, France, Spain, Ukraine and Russia. We import min 4 new lines-to update the breeding herd of quails, then only the best individuals of quails are selected (about 25-30% of the quail from the imported lines).
Generally accepted criteria for selection of the mother herd:
The minimum permissible weight for a female is 380 grams at the age of 60 days. (the average weight of females of the mother herd is 380-480 grams);
The minimum permissible weight for males is 300 grams at the age of 60 days. (the average weight of males of the mother herd is 330-380 grams);
Female to male ratio: 1 male to 3 females .
