This was such a huge project! We cut a big hole in our skoolie roof to give us more headroom in our bathroom that will be along the side of our bus. We are so pleased with how it turned out, it really is a luxury!

Guy's, i have watched a lot of skoolie builds and this idea is a first. Very well thought out and by god built to last. Steph, don't use bondo for your radius outside, it won't flex and may crack, use an automotive seam sealer. It is sandable and stays a little flexible. You bossed that grinder btw, excellent work.

Thanks for the tip! We’ll for sure look into that. Unfortunately because we aren’t master welders, the outside radius kind of looks like dog poop right now and we need a way to just clean it up a bit lol :)

@@AdamandAtlas Seam sealer will work fine, it's like caulk/sica flex (silicone sealant) but better.

He truly is. I really thought he’d be in more of the video since he is our foreman lol

Cole is THE MAN! Specifically because he delivered the most perfectly applicable yet ridiculously obscure Obi Wan line.

You two are doing a great job and all of this is making for a very solid relationship. The respect you show and have in each other is fantastic. I have to say you both are very handy but Steph the way you handle some of those tools is very impressive.

Aw thank you so much Walter! Our relationship is definitely growing stronger through this huge project we are taking on! And I wouldn’t know how to use any of these tools without Adam teaching me, though I’m never afraid to try something new!

You guys this is huge!! It looks amazing, we are going to be so jealous in our cramped little shower 😅 So sorry about your subfloor, but you’re definitely right that it’s better to find leaks now!

Thank you!! We are so excited about it. When we meet up on the road we’ll have to try each others buses for a night 😂

impressive work! I liked the mockup animations in the beginning! Too bad you had water leaking in. I guess tarps would not have done the job either if the water was leaking through the welds....

Thank you! Ya we tried tarps the first torrential downpour we got, and that resulted in the worst of the damage lol. We switched to a piece of plywood because it overhung the ends, it saved the seams from a lot of water getting to it.

Loved the video - smart idea! Do you have a video where you install the polycarbonate on the skylight frame - or a reference point for how you would do it? I’m thinking about doing the same on my bus! Thanks

I have a vision of the same frame above a Kitchen area. Looks like the framing would hold cabinets and supplies? And give more head room?

It’s incredibly strong thanks to welding. I’m sure that would work!

Since this video is now 2 years old, I’m just curious, how did it work out? Would you do it again this way? Would you change anything? Thanks in advance as I work through the plans for my bus! 💕😊

No regrets on the design and implementation of the skylight. On a quality level, its bulletproof. Two things i would change tho: 1. Its to big. the bathroom is double the size it really needed to be and is a bit of a waist of space 2. Its a thermal problem. In the summer, the skylight makes the bathroom a hotbox, and a freezer in the winter. Beyond aesthetics, a transparent roof is dumb. I’d make it sheetmetal with insulation on the roof if i did it again. But if it was smaller, the thermal problems would be reduced as well. Hope this helps!
