The key to keeping a glass top stove clean and shiny is to clean every time you use it. Sometimes it just needs a wipe off. If a pot boils over, move it to another burner and clean as soon as it cools off. Use the white cleaner polish with a dry towel or paper towels. It leaves a protective coating. The worst stains are caused when frying when the oil it grease burns onto burner. If cleaned using a razor blade scraper after cooking you can keep it looking good. I learned to wipe stove around my fry pan as I cook. If I pour out the grease u wipe the side of the pan either a wet cloth before putting back on stove. My stove is 20 years old and still looks almost new. Now you have yours clean and shiny, get a routine and keep to it. Loved your video.

Agree to everything in this comment. Clean up right away, do NOT cook on a dirty burner, cerambrite is great for polishing and finish cleaning AFTER using other methods. It is mainly a mild abrasive, not a cleaner per se, so letting it sit does little. Another abrasive that works well is cream of tartar. My general cleaning involves using a vileda glass top sponge. Mild abrasive on one side, polished on other.

For a fair test, you should have segmented the bad burner in pieces and tried the different products on a quarter of that burner. What you were doing now is working some of the dirt off without a fair test for the others.

I do love the way my glass top stove performs. That being said, I detest the cleanup. Thirty minutes after every use will eventually lead to a serious cleaning about once a month because slowly something resembling baked on carbon will build up in spots. Grrrr I should add, I’m very careful with my cookware. After three years I have no scratches. And as an aside, the baking soda was meant to be a scrub as it’s mildly abrasive, not just let it sit and then wipe it off.

You mentioned boiling over water made the stains? Then use Limeaway. If the white was lime scale, then that’s why the fine sandpaper worked. It’s a glass stovetop so I think what you removed was the lime/gunk, not the actual scratches.

you could also check with car guys who buff out headlights, and what they use. I had mine done awhile back; he used a VERY high number sandpaper buffer wheel on his drill, followed by a polishing cream...my headlights came out spotless, smooth and crystal clear. Perhaps something similar would work on your cooktop? (BTW I have the same type of cooktop as well, so I'm singing to the choir, and may have to do this myself in the future!)

The Cer -A-ma -brite (for "ceramic" not "sermuh" ) is supposed to be used without water - it is a fine abrasive that is scrubbed with a dry cloth or paper towel to clean and buff like a paste car wax does. It wipes clean. Works on mine unless I let it build up. I have also used a razor blade for smal areas, then finished with Ceramabrite. 👍

I have removed crusted burn on the stove top by simply putting comet and then a wet dishcloth on top and let it sit and soak for 15-20 minutes. That has worked for me rather than using baking soda and vinegar which didn't do any better than my water letting it soak to soften the Krusty burn on.

Body shop painters use wet sandpaper on automobile paint jobs, but as you said, it's a very, very fine grade. Normally only a diamond will scratch glass, so a very fine grit of sandpaper used with copious amounts of water shouldn't scratch a glass stove top.

The scratches you are referring to look to be hard water deposits not scratches. The minerals in water left behind after the water boils and evaporates. I'm wondering if you left the vinegar to sit longer, it may have worked better.
@lauradavies5346

Every time you use your cooker you should clean it and it depends on what sort of saucepans you are using and if there's anything on the bottom of the pans it will damage your cooker.

Haze can be calcium or mineral build up from boiling water spills or just condensation dripping of pots. A razor does not work on these types of stains. Cream of Tartar and/or coffee pot de-scaler (citric acid) do work great!

I clean houses and use automotive sandpaper and sharp razors on glass shower doors and stove tops. They come clean every time though using a sharp razor on the hard water stains works more efficiently, it scrapes off like a powder, and leaves a clear glass behind.

Spray the top with Dawn Powerwash. Leave it sit for a few minutes. Get a NEW one-sided straight razor blade ( hardware section at store) gently use the straight blade to scrape the surface. Hold the blade securely in one hand. Keep the blade's sharp edge at a slight inclined angle. Then wipe clean. I got off everything that was burned or overflowed white marks . The surface of my stove is completely smooth without any raised surfaces. I had previously tried other methods without complete success.

The sand paper should be the best when you have not cleaned and buffed for a long time. I use olive oil to loosen the muck and then clean with glass cleaner and mine looks like new

Clean with Weimen every time there is a spill. Do not allow spills to be cooked into the glass. Use a single razer blade to get off what is left. Buff with a microfiber towel. I did home cleaning for many years. Saved many glass top stoves❤

I wonder if the glass cleaner or baking soda would do better after you've used the sand paper. Thanks for the video!

Oven cleaner, leave it on the burned on spots for around 30 minutes depending on how bad the cooktop is. Rinse very well then dry with a microfiber cloth until shiny. Works for me and doesn’t harm the surface! As far as the “grayish center” I think that is normal after using a smooth top for years so I’ve not found a solution for that.

What is a way to get the iron oxide left on the glass from cast iron pans ???

I bought a used ceramic top stove from a lady who hadnt cleaned her stove top (maybe never). It was BAD !!! I put a wet dishcloth with liquid detergent and let it sit overnight. I was amazed in the morning. The "crud" had softened and came off easily. Anytime I have a "boil over", I use the same overnight method, so so much easier.

I use the Weiman Glass Cook Top cleaner and a paint remover tool with a razor blade you can use on glass. I do this everytime I have a mess on stove top. Have had my stove for 20 years and looks like the day I got it.

I use a razor blade, a stainless steel scrubber, then rinse and dry. Then use Sprayway (for stainless steel) to make it shine. It comes out beautiful.

Make sure when using a razor blade it is new and sharp and have a wet surface especially on glass. New home construction cleaning people did not use wet and new blades and would put scratches on all the new windows!

My stove doesn’t have this feature. Maybe a hand steamer like the ones you use for clothes. I haven’t really tried steam.

It looks so much better and has to be spotlessly clean. I have this cooktop also and I hate it. I had a gas range before and thought I wanted the glasstop because it looked so good. I can't get the hang of cooking with electric and the work to maintain it is terrible. I had a cast iron skillet in the oven finishing off a steak, took it out and put it down on the glasstop. Apparently it scorched it. I am going to try your sandpaper trick because I have tried everything else. I think you should be very happy with your results.

Use Dr. Beckmann Glass Ceramic Power Cleaner...it will take all of that off fast. It has the sponge something between a sand paper and a stainless steel sponge and the product is similar to bar's keeper.
