Great video!! You are correct in your assumption the heating does not make the cleaning better. I always use my ultrasonic cleaner without the heating and it cleans perfectly. Keep up the awesome work!!!

Regarding those warped areas on the helmet, you mentioned that they got warped due to the temperature, but while you were showing the first piece pre-wash (around 2:00) I had already noticed some warping, so while the warm clean might have exacerbated the issue, it seems that it was already a problem after printing. Good overview though, thanks for sharing!

I think the warped rubbery resin was from the mean green. If you leave a print in mean green for too long (no matter what the print is) it will leave the print very rubbery and it will easily break.
@chrislannon

I use Mean Green contained in the ziplock bag, suspended in water in the sonic cleaner (so I don't have to wash out the sonic cleaner). Then I rinse off the mean green with IPA in a pickle container, followed by water, then let dry. Works great!

Quick question: Have you attempted to recycle your Mean Green? I'm thinking that one might expose their contaminated MG to a powerful UV lamp for a certain amount of time to cause the resin to solidify, which you could then strain out and re-use the MG? As far as I know, there's no chemical reaction between it and the resin. Might make a good experimentation video.

Time is money. The time to filter and reuse, assuming you pay yourself minimum wage, might be cheaper to just grab a few gallons from your hardware store.

I have the 6L Mophorn Professional Ultrasonic Cleaner (380w), as it was the smallest with a drain valve, which allows me to return the cleaner to the bottle w/o having to pick up the whole unit to drain it. I also use the 1G Simple Green Pro HD Heavy Duty Cleaner full strength, which has the exact same smell as Formula 409. Just cure the cleaner to cause the resin to precipitate out, and save the cleaner. When cleaning, 40-42 degrees for 5 minutes is the best for removing the resin w/o damaging the print. Then rinse with normal water over a basin. UV cured cleaner and waste waster, can safely be dumped on grass, as the cleaner is environment friendly.

I used to use the really really really really big units when I worked in band instrument repair. Like, big enough for a person to fit inside of they were curled up in a ball. I might dilute your solution a bit. The acid doesn't need to be as strong since you have vibrations helping with that process. It will save you money in the long run. I might have a video somewhere that shows how effective the vibrations are when cleaning. If this unit has a circulation pump, get a mesh drain cover for the bottom tank inlet. That will help with the longevity of your unit.

So, I ended up acquiring a Peopoly Phenom as well. Loooooove the printer. I've had nothing but success right out of the box. That being said, your timing with this video is perfect. I was considering investing in an ultrasonic cleaner to use with the Mean Green I use on my prints. Side note to the Mean Green: I've found that it has a hard time cleaning Siraya Tech Blu resin. I mixed Blu with Peopoly's Deft Gray resin and got great results as far as print quality is concerned. However, hand cleaning the prints has not been easy. I've considered trying 95%+ Isopropyl alcohol, as that's what's recommended by Siraya Tech. Either way,i'll be nabbing the very same ultrasonic cleaner you've showcased in this video. Once again, you've come in clutch with some niche information that answers questions I otherwise would have a hard time finding answers for, haha. I'm using my printer for the same thing you are, so your videos always help a ton. Thanks for what you do.

@makermatrix9815
@makermatrix9815 4 года назад
I think part of your issue was that the mask was sitting directly on the heating element. At least on the smaller 6L unit you can tell that the heating element is right in the center (if you put alcohol in the tank (but don't do that ;-) it will boil right in the center bottom every time the heating element comes on). If you could have made the basket work (or find/print some kind of standoffs to keep your parts off the bottom) then the heating might work OK without warping your part. I use heating on parts as thin as 2mm and while it DOES soften things up (nice for removing supports) I haven't seen the kind of warping you showed here.
@krismeulders4563
@krismeulders4563 4 года назад
Usually the heating in this kind of cleaning tanks is on the long sides. The bottom is where the ultrasound elements are. Parts shouldn't touch the bottom because you dampen the effect that way, like a hand on a speaker.

30L is the route I went, you also commented on that on the Phenom forum. Temp wise 30C is max on thin stuff or just longer scrub time with no heat. I do not pass 40C on Siraya or Peopoly. After drying from the wash and rinse I may use a spray bottle with some IPA for the last little bit of finish before curing. It takes away the small areas of tackiness. Good stuff Jessy :) - Oh let me know if you managed to print the sloped top for the Phenom, sorry about the scaling.

@@UncleJessy I also use the 30L to clean the Vat and Plate, really easy way to clean those. Point of interest, PLA version of the sloped top, "Do Not Use Heat" and it also affects the sealant you may use to bond it, so it it is a dip and pull until you get the desired result. FEP can use low heat to tune it but that is a fine line to balance, start 0 heat and then add 5 deg to see if it benefits with the caution on the side of "Ok this is a stop point - do not try well one more time can't hurt that much" ....... I will also emphasize - "DO NOT USE FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS IN THESE UNITS - IE IPA, DENATURED ALCOHOL, ETC". I use Mean Green as well :) .... Also, measure your drain valve, get a 90 deg or 45 deg connector with a flexible hose connector to make draining a little easier.

With all the info out there now about resin machines and printing in resin I've been wondering about additives. Have you tried adding any casting resin mixins? Metallic Powders, pearl pigments, glitter flake, etc? There are uv craft resins out for some time and those types of items can be used to achieve some interesting effects so I'm curious if they will work with printing resin as well. The metallic powders in particular. If I could just buff out a grey/black print to bring out a metallic shine would be very cool.

Mean Green? I thought you had to clean resin prints with isopropyl alcohol

Be careful with IPA. It cleans great, but then don't use heating (manual should actually say you can't use IPA or any other solvent). Also keep cleaning times short as ultrasound itself produces heat as well.

@@krismeulders4563 I've used IPA in my ultrasonic cleaner a couple of times for like 1 minute or so. It doesn't have any sort of heating function. Is it only the heat which creates the potential issue of a micro explosion ?

@@TheHoody999 If you are careful with the temperature you shouldn't have any problems. I've been working with and selling them for over 10 years now. We don't work with IPA as we have to give the example, but customers do anyway. Never heard of problems.

@@krismeulders4563 OK thanks man. I think I'll go with the method which someone else mentioned here. i.e Mean Green in US Cleaner, then IPA in pickle jar to get rid of green remnants then finally rinse in water. Only problem is finding a Mean Green equivalent in Germany.......can't seem to find anything.

@@TheHoody999 I don't know Mean Green. A (very) quick look tells me it could be similar to Dasty. Pretty popular in Belgium and the Netherlands with people that know it. So chances are you can find it in Germany as well.

I do not recommend Uncle Jessy's channel for beginners. I'm sorry but it true. He makes nice stuff but doesn't explain or show how.

Sorry to hear that - I actually have gotten several great ideas from him and his videos and have been very successful at it. His channel is interactive and if someone is having a issue, beginner or expert, I think the responses are there to add to the learning of the process.
