For this project I am tackling rebuilding the bed platform in the pop top. Why? Well, the platform that we initially installed was an old design and is as flimsy as it is heavy. It's thin z channel aluminum framed around 1/2in plywood, so it beds quite a bit, especially when there is two adults up there. I also feel like there is room to improve the utility by splitting the rear section into two. with this, one person can come and go without disturbing the other from sleeping.
The new platform was framed with 1 0 series extrusion i bought pre-cut from TNUTZ. It was pretty cheap when considering I bought all of the hardware as well. The Honeycomb composite board inlays were acquired from the junk pile at Super Pacific Campers. This material is what made this project worth doing. It's insanely stiff and very light.
All in all, I am extremely happy with the outcome. Litter details like this make the whole truck feel more solid. Plus, I learned a lot. It's always worth it.
