I never thought it was gonna be an upset. Tang is much younger and has been on a roll. I’ve kept up with Le’s career and while he’s not old per say, at his current age it’s an uphill battle vs young strong hitters that can match his style. Le and tang don’t really have pronounced ground games, so it was always gonna come down to striking. The biggest factor is age. He became a champ sort of at the tail end of his prime. A younger Thanh might’ve done better, but even then I’m not sure bc tang is pretty good and could prob give young Le a run for his money. Imo Le was losing his bout to Martin Nguyen before he fortunately landed a ko punch. But if his Nguyen fight went to the judges he would’ve lost. Props to tang and hopefully Le will come back and try to reclaim the belt

Yea I watched this fight and I can’t say I agreed with the decision but then again I was not one of the judges so that’s just my take. Just because tang kai threw a ton of leg kicks and literally ran from Thanh le almost the entire fight doesn’t mean he dealt more damage or showed more skill then Thanh and ultimately that’s supposed to be how ONE judges these fights rather then round by round. I feel in virtually every exchange Thanh got the better of Tang so how the leg kicks took the W I don’t get. Martin Nguyen beat up Thanh more then this guy did, only difference was tang didn’t get knocked out but if the Nguyen fight went to a decision then that would have been harder to judge because there was way more back and forth, this was five rounds of Thanh landing clean flush power shots and combos and tang landing leg kicks and running away.
