That's exactly how I was bought up we all did chores as our mother was very ill, my brother sister and I could cook a full roast diner when we were 8,9 and 10
That was actually a very polite thing his father did when he'd have him stay with others--how often do you hear about a parent SENDING FOOD with their child for a sleepover?
I remember when we decided to make a list of designated times & dates of chores It lasted about 2 days, because it would be my sisters turn and she wouldn’t do it
