Hugh Laurie's speech at Emma Thompson's Walk of Fame Event 

Imagine meeting your first love in a drama club in Cambridge amongst a group of friends that you'll grow old together with and falling in love with his soul so much that even when it didn't work out he's still there 30 years later as a best friend to present you the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Emma had to nudge Hugh and remind him not to speak in an American accent. Always three steps ahead of the rest, she knew this would make international headlines and get back to the British press. They'd have summarily TWATTED him for "forgetting himself". Foreign celebs that make a life in L.A. after success are mercilessly shamed back home for adopting an American accent outside of a set. British press STILL have a go at Catherine Zeta-Jones, while Australian press have never forgiven Olivia Newton-John for losing her Australian accent. Especially when she had the cheek to speak American to an Australian audience at a concert, drawing boos from the large crowd. Then again, the US decimated Madonna for adopting an "English" accent (it wasn't a good one at ALL) when she lived in London with then-husband Guy Ritchie.
