I was fortunate to see and hear him perform in a jazz club in Los Angeles. After the gig, I went up to him, thanked him and asked if I could ask him a question. "I kniw its a bad question but who do you listen to when not playing?" He responded, "I listen to God".
Articulate and clear, through this old but gentle man I learned to love my country, I started traveling after I head him describing the Dranksburg mountains (Painting pictures into words clearly and oowww.. he was spot on about the Dranksburg mountains)and that has been the best experience ever. Yesterday I travelled through Limpopo and Mpumalanga and God can design wonder's, and this man was a tool to speaking life through his words about anything he sang about. We will surely miss your mighty warrior 🤞🏿❤️👑
Our country is beautiful and so are our people. I have been living overseas for decades and travelled around the world. There is no place like South Africa. There is a vibe that I can never describe in words but I feel it the moment I land at OR Tambo. Lately I've been feeling like it's time to go back home. I feel like something in my life is missing and I'm starting to feel like I am disconnected from my ancestors. The disconnection is manifesting as depression. Hence I am on here, listening to these songs.
I loved this song from the first time I heard it. I was introduced to it by a coworker who loved his music. As soon as I heard that first note I was blown away. That was back in 1994 this is my favorite song to cheer me up and it also puts boy meets girl into perfect perspective. RIP SIR Masekela and thank you for the gift you have the world.
Rest in peace to our music warrior for justice. My prayers are with his family & to the sisters & brothers of southern africa- thank you for sharing this music giant with the world. The music as always live on.
Was listening to the song and I immediately wanted to watch a video of him performing it coz he tells a story while performing that comes to life especially in live performances! This man will forever be a LEGEND🤍🕊
This song is for all hard working mamas who sacrificed by rushing under the cover of darkness to go to the market just for the up keep of their families. Mamas will NEVER forget you
I pay my tribute, told him I love the song, ironically we met at Market Theatre and he gave me grapes while I was drinking beer, but ate them because of respect and admiration. #RIPBraHughMasekela
