One time I played this song while chilling with my dad and I could see tears literally running down his cheeks. He's been working in the coal mines in Emalahleni for the past 35 years.. 😭
It takes me to a place I've never been but I feel every single part, almost like I'm a reincarnation of someone who has experienced what your father has.
When i listen to jazz i just miss my mother, am 21 years now(born in 2001 ) my mom passed in 2009😭😭😭😭. But now am a full grown up man , my mother's mother (granny)raised me, may God protect her till I get the powers to make her happy financially. Please love your parents. Wish you all great festive season.💙💙💙
I'm from Georgia and my parents and their friends made me listen to a lot of Masakela when I was very young. I remember them getting high and drunk while us kids were chilling and playing on the backgrounds. I have not listened to Hugh since then and now I get goosebumps from this powerful music
2:04-2:16 😭😭😭 And when they hear that Choo-Choo train A-chugging, and a pumping, and a smoking, and a pushing A pumping, a crying and a steaming and a chugging and A whooo whooo!😭😭
I am damned not to have known this legend in his lifetime! But I guess that's what legends are all about. They continue to move lives long after they are gone!
I was blessed to see him perform Stimela live at the Cape Town Jazz Fest the year before he passed away. He absolutely ROCKED the house. This song is timeless, so full of passion and feeling. RIP Bruh Masekela
Nostalgia brought me here my dad had this CD still does my parents were newly divorced and I lived with my dad ,Hugh,Dobbie gray, teddy ,dolly parton were his jams can someone invent a time machine so I can go watch my self be happy
The secret is in diving deep into your thoughts and relive your best memories... It's called Meditation my love... You'll definitely find peace, joy and Happiness ❤❤❤❤
A hug from Italy to you Hugh ( thanks for your music and message) and to all my S.A.Brothers & Sisters. I never visited SA but I hope to, one day. My wife (RIP) was a Zimbabwean Bantu ( shona-speaking)...Visited Zimbabwe more times in the late 80's.....Used to love Harare and also Kwe-Kwe ( my wife hometown)
May her soul rest in peace and acknowledgement to you sir, for appreciating and finding meaning to this " masterpiece " as one guy claimed in the comments.
First heard Masekela at 18. Heard that distinctive horn on and off for the next 50 years until finally saw him in L.A. Such a treat it was. Long live that sound, the spirit of the man.
I believe Hugh is breathing the healing air of heaven, living in the mountain tree of artisans of all kinds, making music with instruments we can only imagine. We love you.
Tá mé in Éirinn ag éisteacht leis an amhráin seo, agus paisean an Aifric ag líonadh mo chroí! I’m in Ireland listening to this song, with an African passion filling my heart! RIP bra Hugh, your music transcends cultures and man made boundaries
Easily one of the most complete music compositions of all times. The spectrum of talent here is amazing, from within and intimate....from an era when music had cause and legitimacy. And not just another nice song. 200 years from now it will still move you
Amo a Africa, mas nunca fui lá. Amo a Africa e todo o povo africano. Amo esta música e não canso de ouvir, quantas vezes eu puder. (I love Africa, but never went there. I love Africa and all African people. I love this song and not get tired of hearing how many times I could.)
I am listening to this song in the midst of the COVID19 pandemic and I choose to dedicate this masterpiece to all the healthcare workers who are at the forefront of the battle field fighting this monster. I also condemn governments that do not value the lives and contributions of our healthcare workers. History will judge the leaders of the world harshly. We cannot stand by as South Africans when our brothers and sisters across the race and gender spectrums lose their lives in the fight against this pandemic. We cannot look on when the nation perishes and yet some people see an opportunity to enrich themselves in the midst of these unfortunate circumstances. We were promised a better life for all since democracy dawned on the shores of South Africa in 1994. Will that promise ever materialize? Remains to be seen!
For some reason i remembered Hugh yesterday and downloaded Soweto blues done with Miriam Makeba and then went on replaying that record over and over not realizing that i would hear about your departure this morning. The music world will take ages to make another pioneer Jazz'ist like this African icon.RIP brother.

I'm currently listening to this masterpiece with my lil boy... How beautiful it is when music is immortal, he'll probably do the same with his lil boy. Bra Hugh, long live.
Just heard this song for the first time in my life... Man, what a masterpiece! So soulful, so powerful, so emotional... Can't believe it took me 38 years to come across this one....love it!
I heard this song for the first time today in a shop...I think it was in Pep. I sat down until it was over. Then I left. I don't even remember what I was going in to buy. But I'm glad life suddenly took a turn ❤️
@@declankent5074 my day has been horrible. I live in Swaziland. Please look up what is happening in my country 💔 it's so disheartening. I hope your day was way much better.
2024 ! Tears of joy😭 I can't seem to express the nostalgic vibes I'm getting from this. He literally draws an exquisite picture of art thru this music . All time greatest Hugh Masikela ✨
Do u feel like communicating with ur lost loved ones but u do not have impepho just play this legendary song they will be with u and memory of their wise words .... this reminds of my father and some of his words
How something so unabashedly beautiful can be conjured from the sorrows/evils described here (at this version’s outset) is a testament to Masekela’s talent/genius and the good in his soul. We humans can make wonderous roses out of shit. We should undertake such efforts a bit more often, eh?
Love from Zimbabwe 2020.. this songs takes me to those mines that I've never been to. I can feel the pain , i can see that time..may we never go back there again. If we do , may it be for our kids and their next generations.. Africa unite!!!
@@yokoono3159 Sorry for responding this late...Read your post just now....Yes I did enjoy my time in your Country...Visited 7 or 8 times in the second part of the 80's....
This song takes me to another dimension, to place where everything is ok, where energy is so peaceful and chilled, place where people sitting with a smiles on their faces and enjoying every moment of their lives. It's not utopia, it's a dream.
It's 2022 and I'm here. This song reminds me of my father, he would dance to this song slowly with one leg moving slowly and snapping with his thumb and index fingers..papa😭. May his amazing soul continue to rest in peace.
Beautiful music never expires. Rest easy bra Hugh. My dad loved your music until his last days, his love for your music has imprinted onto me. Rest in peace timma ❤️
Quality Record Productions has a studio recording of this fabulous song. It is probably one of the technically one best studio recordings EVER made. It left me speechless. The vinyl has over 90dB of absolutely pitch perfect sound.
