I found my IHD was quite useless, the gas never linked correctly, Octopus meter people supplied another with the same result. I found the Hugo app and both IHD’s have gone to the recycling centre as I could not send them back. The Hugo app is great, its always with you, works on Iphone and Ipad for me.

Hi KC, enjoying your videos and downloaded the app after watching this one. I'm on octopus go faster but my IHD can't process the dual tariff so shows incorrect total spend. Thought this app would be perfect, but in the total usage section it doesn't include vat or standing charges? I've emailed the developer who says to use the budget section, but this just seems confusing. You had this problem?

Yes that is correct. I mentioned it to them and the reason why is that for graphing purposes it messes up the usage section (I'm not sure why that is the case). The budget section however for yesterday should be correct correct (adds your standing charge etc).

Thanks! 🙏🏻 This is great. I’ve downloaded the app & I’m awaiting the data from the network…

Do you need to already have a smart meter for the app to work? Or can you just use the app and get all the data without having one?

Yes you need a smart meter. This effectively replaces the display inside your home with information on your phone

Is there any point? You use what you use unless you are going to stop making a cup of coffee because it cost you 20p to use the kettle. I don;lt have a smart meter and got no intention of getting one.

You're right, it isn't going to stop you doing basic functions, but it will make you have a look at energy use over time and make it very obvious if you have anything using energy for no reason. You could record the meter reading directly every day to see if any changes you make are doing anything, but having the data all ready makes it easier, which means you're more likely to do something about it. Finally, I haven't done a meter reading in years, no need when the smart meter is sending data. Granted, I do know people in remote areas who may struggle to get the signal needed, so it won't be for them yet.

@@KCTalksEV But most people should know what is being used. Granted i know somone who did not realise her husbands music studio stuff was still plugged in the basement when her hubby passed away, and it was only when I went down there a year after to grab some drives from the computers that I noticed it was all switched on at the mains. A msrat meter may have notified her if she had looked at the hub and realised. But her hubby was dead against smart meters. more so than me. Thankfully, my energy company is not nagging me like others are doing. Next year may be a different thing as my electric meter comes to the end of it certified date then. I have no problem reading my meters, take me a few minutes if that . I use what I use, it is just common sense to cut down on some things, I have very little on standby these days.

The important word there is should! If I'm honest I'm too busy to know exactly what is on - I can definitely see families, or people who don't pay as much attention as you should (me) benefiting from it!

Hmmm. The Hugo app took to my electricity meter easily but I can't see how to add my gas meter. I've asked the app for instructions...do you know, please?

That is very interesting. Does your gas meter come up on your energy supplier account?

This app only seems to work on usage, there is no display that I can see for feed-in tariff, the standard Octopus app is better.

On the Octopus App, I can't get usage in pounds with my current tarrif (Octopus Go Faster), whereas on the Hugo App it will show me. That being said, I do have an Octopus Home Mini, so Live usage through the app is very useful.

My display unit does all this except push me to switch. Says it all. why input rates? the smart meter sends this to my display unit. Regarding carbon foot print. Unless your virtue signalling politician or activist or fly everywhere then you will have a very low one.

The idea of this app is so I don't need to look at my IHD, for example, when I'm at work or away from home and want to check usage. I also find that Octopus' reading are not correct sometimes (my gas usage seems to show for some dates and not for others for example). Hugo app doesn't have that issue. I do have a low carbon footprint partly due to having solar, drive an EV, and I also offset monthly too whatever I have left. It is good to know what the electricity and gas you use is outputting however.
