Love DENNIS PAVAO AND THE HUI O HANA brings back such loving memories of me and MY SWEET MOTHER FATHER AND MY OLDEST BROTHER all have left to that mansion up above.with GOD Warms my heart and brings me to tears LOVE YOU DENNIS AND THE HUI O HANA GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
I believe this song was originally sung by the Bee Gees in the 1970's. Hui Ohana did this cover of it on an acoustic LP called I believe, "Hui Ohana: Hawaii to Tahiti". On the album were mostly original songs that they wrote of their experiences visiting Tahiti. This sounds like a "live" version of that album version. Beautiful!
Yes…. The original is from the Bee Gees released in 1975. But wasn’t released as a single in the U.S. But, a year later was a top-25 hit on the Pop charts for a young Olivia Newton-John. Hui 'Ohana recorded it a year after Olivia on that HAWAII-TAHITI studio recording which was a little over 3/4 originals. The covers included this one…. and Robert Beaumont and Jerry Santos’, now iconic, “Ku'u Home 'O Kahalu'u”” among them. This one on this video is from 1989 Hui 'Ohana Live album titled: Hui 'Ohana Live: Tahiti-COME ON OVER. When I was stationed in Germany from ‘89-93…my unit was sent to Kuwait during Desert Storm. I took ALL my CD’s that I felt would help to keep my nerves calm and think of my homeland until we all got back home…. One way or another. So, I took my Aunty Genoa…Hoopii Brothers…Kahauanu Lake Trio…Led Kaapana/IKona….Gary Haleamau and OF COURSE…every Hui 'Ohana CD and cassette I had and mixed Hui 'Ohana tapes of songs off of albums that weren’t on CD’s yet. And I played them all a criminally insane amount of times 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️ did NOT care 😆😂🤣 And ESPECIALLY the LIVE in Tahiti one. It had a few from their HAWAII-TAHITI album(and two of my favorites from that album) “Moorea, Where are You” and “My Homeland”, which has been written by the trio for Tahiti native/friend/Tahitian legend, Francis Teai. Loved those two songs. But, j I liked the studio recording alot because it was slower in bpm which made it more of a Hawaiian/Country feel and sound to it. Still sounded amazing as they ALWAYS DID. There was songs from at least 3-4 previous albums of theirs like “Magic Islands”,”Waiulu”,”Hula o Makee”, from “Ono”… Naka Pueo”, “Kahealani”, from “Live from Sounds of Hawaii Studio”….”Wai o ke ani ani” off of “Ke Kolu”…”Ua Noho Au a Kupa” from “Hana Hou”…. Still can listen to that entire recording and enjoy it and sing to it as if it was only yesterday I picked it up from the store. The Of The truly greats. One is the biggest reasons I wanted to become an artist…that sang Traditional Hawaiian music…with emphasis on leo kiekie and tight harmonies. Hawaii’s version of the EAGLES…. Or, Crosby, Stills & Nash(and sometimes, Young)
