From unlocking the power of the human brain to mental privacy and the delicate balance between manipulation and control, discover the ethical questions shaping our digital future in which humans and AI merge through the neural interface. Marcello Ienca warns that neural interfaces should upgrade, not degrade human beings. For this to be possible, fundamental human rights related to the brain and mind, i.e. neurorights, must be protected. This TED talk confronts us with a historical crossroads in the interaction between human intelligence and AI: that between parasitism and mutualistic symbiosis, and points the way towards avoiding the former and pursuing the latter. Marcello Ienca is a Professor of Ethics of AI and Neuroscience at the Technical University of Munich and a Senior Scientist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, in Lausanne. His research focuses on the ethics of human-machine interaction, with a particular interest in the responsible development and human rights implications of neurotechnologies, artificial intelligence, big data, robotics and virtual environments. Marcello Ienca will address these topics on the TEDx stage, with a specific emphasis on the concept of "neurorights". This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Arms race in neurotechnology will be uncompromising. Which is probably why it will be impossible to develop a techno-legal system that will protect our thougts from the misuse of neurotechnology. What about augmentation? It's likely to create a new master race. 💙

its a nice alternative... chatgpt says: No, we have not yet figured out how to reliably stop BCI from interpreting or acting upon unwanted thought-based actions. No, large language models (LLMs) alone cannot solve this issue.

this is very interesting, artificial intelligence is by far something that can improve our lives, but we must never forget that it impacts our rights and the people who will come after us! I think it is important that as science and technology rightly progresses toward innovation there are always also laws that can prevent it from being used for less than laudable purposes

excellent presentation.. what do you think? would blockchain system would be a great system fo this.. as fraud with neural display /control if hacked by someone could be easily caught ?? if we solve energy storage problem into future?
