I live not far from Memphis. If you don't know the history of Elvis you will never, ever, fully appreciate how awesome this song truly is.

I was a Top-40 programmer during that time (R&R reporter) and I don't remember the label (Columbia? Epic?) working the record at all. Maybe they mentioned it, I don't recall but I think they probably gave it a shot at AOR and it got some spins for 4 or 5 weeks and then fell off and the label moved onto other things. A lot (massive amount) depends on what other records were hitting the streets around the time your album came out.

Man, this song and My First Million was in constant rotation down here in Mississippi. I was very active in the local music scene here in the late 80 to the mid 90s, and I saw ya'll at Hal and Mals here. It's still one of my top ten shows ever. This cd is kind of like Bat Out of Hell, I always have to have a copy. 😁

Heard this song on the radio this weekend, had to see if I could find it here. So glad I did. I loved listening to this when it first came out, the summer between HS and college for me! Such memories :D

One of the most respectable "Elvis" dedicated rockers by another band I ever heard. Wonderful little story in those lyrics -- driving melody & everyone in the band asserts themselves with authority. Excellent violin is the surprise. "...avalanches never go in the direction that you choose...." Yeah, quite prophetic. Love this.

This is one of those albums that I listen to all the way through, there's no filler songs at all. I saw these guys back in 1990 or 1991 at Hal & Mal's in Jackson MS, blew me away, and I've probably had about 5 different copies of this particular album. It's funny how when I'll play it for someone it eventually grows legs and walks off, if you know what I mean, lol! I really love the last song, Harsh Light of Reality, more relevant now than ever.

Woke up to this song 21+ years ago while at a meeting in Memphis. Never knew the name of it or who it was by. Every once in a while I'd try and think about it, but over time the beat and lyrics left my head. Tonight on the way home from work I remembered the "Me and Elvis" part. What did we ever do before Google and RU-vid? (We never remembered is what we did)

As a 60+ 'older rocker' I have to admit it's rare I get impressed by a new song. 'Big Country" and "Dizz-Knee-Land' are a couple. But when "Me and Elvis" came out, I went nuts. It got some play, but nobody had the cd. Downloads weren't as available then as now. I finally found it on eBay from some guy in Northern France. DAMN shame you guys broke up. All the best...

Fell in love with this song when it came out. Got a little local airplay (I gave it some too-being a volunteer DJ) in Ottawa. Was working in music retail at the time and managed to turn a few people on to the album as well. They should have gone on to bigger things. Glad I bought the CD.

".....life never goes into the direction that you choose." Prophetic. The band is creatively marvelous on this track. It's an example of Americana-Roots music injected with rock and roll. The accordion / fiddle fit fine, the vocals are aggressive and they tell a humorous story. Taken at face value the story could have been true had Elvis been your friend when you were young.

Loved this song/album, and glad to hear it still holds up all these years later. It got a decent amount of play on the college radio station here in Bowling Green KY. In fact, I'm pretty sure I won the CD from a radio station call-in contest. I also really like the song "These Are the Days." Would love to see the album on Spotify, as well as hearing more from the band.
