This is one of the many weather radio videos I filmed on my vacation to Orlando in late July/early August 2015. Albeit my luck, a rare phenomenon just happened to occur while I was there, among others. All of the National Weather Service office in Ruskin Florida's weather radio stations experienced major technical difficulties. First, their CRS that produces the automated broadcast voices began cutting out randomly (5:14), with Tom sometimes stopping mid-sentence, eventually signaling Paul to take over, as is the automatic safety protocol in these machines. Then, Paul began reading virtually all products in the broadcast cycle (5:40), a phenomenon that is truly rare. Then, when Paul got tired, I guess, two pre-recorded voices took over and played on a loop (0:00). One more modern-sounding voice said that NOAA Weather Radio would be down intermittenly due to "routine maintenance", while the other voice was simply identifying the broadcast's origin. What's peculiar to me is that these messages must've been recorded on some sort of audio recorder, presumably an analog 8-track deck or if I remember correctly being told by the forecaster who recorded the message, on a digital audio deck that took digital sound cards. Either way, it felt sort of retro to be able to hear human voices on NWR, since that's how they did it in the old days (pre-1997). This happened on all NWR stations operated by the NWS in Tampa Bay/Ruskin, including: KWN38, WWF38, KPS505, KHB32, KEC38, WWG59, WXK83, and WXK83A. Enjoy this rare event caught on tape!

From now onward, I will be searching my entire hard drive for various weather radio videos that I never uploaded, and will be publishing them on the corresponding dates that they were originally recorded (give or take a few days). You will get to see lost footage and videos I never got around to uploading. Of course, I will be making new videos regularly whilst posting older ones. I feel like this is a great way to showcase quality content that is still worthy of sharing, and that I put so much time & effort into filming. Hope you enjoy!

Back in 2015, I was at my grandfather’s house in Atlanta Georgia, and the power got knocked out at my grandfather’s house and I took my old noaa weather alerts radio with me in my suitcase so I grabbed it and turned it on, nothing amiss for the first thirty minutes during the power outage but suddenly, the Tom voice went silent, and then imperfect Paul came on the air and said, *this is the national weather service of peach tree city, due to severe weather, the normal broadcast tower has been knocked off the air, backup system activated, I am the imperfect Paul voice,* and continued to broadcast alerts until Tom returned

The wooden radio is a Realistic/Tandy 12-149A weather radio with TimeKube. I haven't looked online in a while, but a quick search on eBay just now turned up 2 results. :)

Don't be sad, man! 🙂 These are great moments in history, and cool moments for geeks like us. Sometimes I get upset/nostalgic over old stuff like this, but I'm glad that it happened and I got to experience it -- that I caught it on video and shared it with the world. Cheers, bro! 🍻😄
