I lived in a small community and we had Humanure system. We used the compost in the orchard, on the landscaping only.No need to send it to a stinky processing plant. Our yard benefited from it. It does take some maintenance. It is not a set it up and forget it system. Let our waste benefit those plants that give us oxygen.

It's 2024 now, and I can't find anything about building codes for receptacle for humanure. We live in Oregon and would like to build something like this. Where to get the plans?

@4:52 then it is humans who are at fault in states like California. The production of agricultural products that require a lot of water consumption should be in a place where it rains alot, and secondly the system of alfalfa is wrong, there are trees that have higher if not similar nutrition content for the dairy animals. One example is 'morus alba' - mulbery trees, 'albizia' trees, River tamarind, willow, poplar- if you are in cold climates. so alternatives are always there. These farmers need to change according to what is available in nature. Plus fodder trees enrich the land as the constant chopping of trees while dropping of composted manure from the cows at the farm back into the soil around those same trees, will reduce the water usage as soil is build up over the years.

Hello, what do you think about using human urine mixed with firewood ash as a liquid fertilizer in the garden? If yes what proportion of urine/ash would be indicated? Thank you very much!

Do you disassemble the cement blocks to empty the compost?

I am a keen composter and have huge respect for you closing the waste loop, but I can't help think that you're putting yourself at risk with this method. You're not wearing gloves or a mask when chucking the bucket in and then spraying them with water and scrubbing to get the good old aerosols going 🤒 And I wish fresh pee was odourless. I work in care and come across it all too often.
