Incredible pie shop. Even for a sad veggo like me. Obviously we have pies in Australia....a lot, in fact....but this place flipped my and the fair lady's collective mind. The Granny style Jam Roly Poly at the end was the perfect finish. Will definitely go again next time we're over 💜💚
I'm a big pie and mash fan, eat it at least once a week generally on a Friday. I sometimes get disappointed eating pie and mash away, but that did look good. I come from the Elephant and was bought up eating pie and mash in Manze's about 67 years ago, I'm almost 68 and they were serving pie and mash 60 years before I arrived. I still eat there. My nan made a good P&M from minced beef filling using leftover meat baked in a pastry suet pastry with a different pastry lid served with a good dollop of lumpy mash (no butter or marg) and lashings of green parsley sauce. It was a cheap meal, and always had parsley growing on the roof of the outside toilet. I love the traditional way of eating it covered in salt and white pepper, never use that black rubbish, lots of vinegar and sometimes with eels, but I've gone off of that a bit and eels are difficult to get now. One thing that winds me up more than most things is the nonsense of serving a 'pie' that's not got the meat completely in pastry. That's a stew with a bit of pastry on top, nothing wrong with that because my mum often did it but it should never, ever be called a pie. I'd like to see it made illegal.
Thanks for your comments Alan and great to hear some of the differences in other parts of the country ive never heard of Manze's so just checked it out and what a great establishment and your Nan sounds a very special Lady but so too is my Nan .
Everything is expensive these days, costs the same for fish and chips so it's a nice change from fish n chips especially in Whitby 😂 the best pie n mash in the UK not just Whitby 😀 Liked and Subscribed 🙌👍
Totally agree, just because he has to pay, rent , insurance, wages, tax, doesn't mean he should be able to make a living, Just ask your mum to do it😂😂😂😂
Good place, good food, good 1940s theme But £11.99 pie, mash, peas & gravy.😮 It's a bit too pricey for what it is. They should offer a free hot drink for that.. But sadly not. 😢
Where was this London? , don't get me wrong I've been in & the 1940s theme Is lovely, grub is very good too But £11.99 is liberty, specially when you dial in a brew.
