You are correct, Humble Pie was one of the first "Super Groups". Formed in 1969 with Peter Frampton (from Herd, 17yrs old!) on lead guitar, Greg Ridley from Spooky Tooth on bass, Young (16yrs) drummer Jerry Shirley, and the LEGENDARY Steve Marriott (formerly Small Faces) on guitar and vocals. The Blackberries are all former Ikettes or Raylettes - Clydie King, Vanneta Fields and Billie Barnum. Peter Frampton left the group in 1971, before this song was released. The guitarist who replaced him here was Clem Clemson (formerly of Colosseum). Their live act was beyond compare, if you like heavier rock songs, do yourself a favor and try some of their other very popular blues/rockers - "30 Days in the Hole", "Hot & Nasty", "I don't Need No Dr" or anything off their live album "Performance - Rockin the Filmore". Marriott was considered by his peers and many fans to be the greatest Soul/rock singer that Britain ever produced. Sadly he tragically died in 1991, so has become almost forgotten. Dip into some more Pie!! Thanks, enjoy your channel.

This is a live performance from a British t.v show called The Old Grey Whistle test. It ran for about 20yrs or more and all the acts on it performed live. It has some of the best live performances ever captured of an eclectic mix of artists from that era such as Meatloaf, Johnny Winters, Patti Smith, Captain Beefheart ......

Steve Marriott has a very unusual timbre of voice, once you hear it, you will not confuse it with anyone else)) And yes, it is really very high and rattling, but with age it has become lower and hoarse (which in my opinion made it even cooler) A wonderful, rare vocalist and musician!

Cool that you are reacting to this. Couple of years back I met the drummer Jerry Shirley. It turns out he lives in my town. Made friends with him he's a really nice guy and fantastic drummer. He signed my kit for me too!

Yes - I gained respect for Frampton when I found out he was in Humble Pie - a classic case of commercialization dampening an artist.
