The build on the Transit twins continues. As they begin to take shape, their similarities and differences become more apparent. Music: www.purple-pla... #onahumbleroad #customtransitvan #customvanbuild
Everytime I watch a video I get blown away. You are just a bloody damn genius!! Remember where you started? I remember the night stand, wine rack, THE SINK,THE SCREEN DOOR. I think I've said this before, what if every 55 year old, male or female, had to redefine themselves and stretched their minds into something else, what could this country accomplish?
Good Sunday Morning, George! I’m always blown away by all of your videos but you playing the water pipe instrument at the end took me by surprise to say the least! You crack me up with your antics! 😂 Stay safe my friend! ~Jim~
😍 You are funny (and clever). As I have mentioned before, I follow SV Delos (Brian, Karin, & Sierra) as she sails the world full time. I have watched Brian service, replace, and upgrade just about every working part on their boat. I know you model the accessibility to the operating systems based on your experience as a former boat owner and motor home owner. When circumnavigating the world by boat, or crisscrossing north America by van, you know from experience that “things” will break down and wear out. Your vans are definitely built with service, repair, and replace in mind. KUDOS
I believe the Humble Road Research Facility is actually named the Humble Road Skunk Works. :) George, I truly enjoy seeing your genius at work during your videos!
I just saw u on u tube of all I've seen I think ur space saving ideas r brilliant very cleverly and neatly done wish I'd met a clever man like u love these vans from uk
If you are going to use a "yoke" to secure the bike, the mount should be as close to the stem, or as close to the forks as possible to prevent any damage to the bottom tube of the frame.
Love to see the thoughtful planning and perfection in putting it together. Also enjoy the creativity and audio visual aspects of your video production. Hope you are having still fun doing it.
Good morning Pan Enjoyed the music and video. Like the beach vibe but I'm a mountain child, forest glades and waterfalls would be a lovely theme for a van build.
George ... YOUR talents and attention to EVERY detail, truly AMAZE us ALL ...... Brilliant in every way !!!! just 4 more years to "retirement", so PLEASE STAY healthy, take good care of yourself, because I WILL be one of your customers in about 2.5 - 3 years PROMISE !!!!!!!
I installed an 18" 2 bike slide with 2 locking glides (like you have done). You only really need (I would have preferred) one locking glide and one unlocked glide. Makes it more of a one-handed operation and it still locks and holds just fine...
@@wanderingzythophile9083 Yes - Since HR builds a lot of slides he could easily do the mix and match thing. I ended building another drawer slide with no roller glides - just wood on plastic strips to slide on - which works just fine. WRT the bicycle slide - If I were to do it again - I would use a locking glide on one side and just incorporate a plastic strip on the other. I've spent 15 months sleeping in my Transit and I'm sure it would work since we are not working with much weight compare to the capacity of just one locking glide. & you will also save on some unnecessary weight (guessing 5+ lbs each) by eliminating one slide.
Another great build. On the Se and ne mountain paths I travel. The high roof vans get torn up quickly. Now looking for more a minimalist that still has power. Dang Unicorns
George, your videos have been a valuable resource in for my van build (understatement!). I'm building with 15-series 80/20, I'm so glad I came across your ideas of using drawer boxes. I have a question: what method/hardware do you use to attach the locking drawer slides in the garage? I want to do something similar and don't want to go about reinventing the wheel unless absolutely necessary. Thanks!
Happy Sunday, George! Are you still a one-person user experience design team or do collaborate with others on your growing team? Thank you for sharing your process.
While I rely heavily on my own sensibilities, I am frequently asking my customers for their day to day feedback with regard to my designs. And I adjust accordingly.
@7:15 - We can agree the Van owner will not walk on the walls of this Transit Van. Yet, we, the viewer, have seen you, yourself, walk on ceilings, in storage bays, inside fridge bays, & yes, you have walked on the walls of your vans, in these Humble Road Videos.... So, those tongue & groove, floor-sealed panel pieces in the garage, may actually get walked upon, yet!
I owned a half- ton Ford conversion van in Calif. I loved it but it had a major problem when driving in the mountains the brakes! Ford 1/2 ton vans of that era chewed up brake jobs due to weight. Hopefully they have oversized braking these days.
Hi George, another great video with great explanation. Thank you for that Already looking forward to the next one. Instead of training with my dog I rather watch your videos. hmmm. haha How are the blue and yellow grips named to pull the rack out and where can I buy them. I love them Regards, Marcel
Good morning George . I keep waiting for your marvellous videos from Sunday to Sunday . The end of this video was so funny 😆 with your usual ongoing sense of humour 😃 . You make me believe that creativity and perfection 👨🎨👨🔧👨🏼🏫, have their own dedicated masters 🥇, and they are so rare to find 🤹♂️. I told you before that if God has Motor homes 🚐in paradise , he will put you in charge of creating them to perfection 👌, for those who deserve them in Heavens 👼 . I am still dreaming of crossing the Atlantic 🌎to bring you my IVECO van for your magic 🪄 perfect 🤩 touches, after my retirement. Thank you George for all the knowledge and ideas you introduced and contributed in your channel. God bless you 🙏 . Stay safe .
Hi George, rather than your wooden board sticking up to hold the bike via the downtube, consider obtaining another front wheel clamp that can then be mounted onto the slider base board already in place. This way the front forks when the front wheel has been removed simply fit onto the Front wheel clamp which uses its lever to close and clamp the frame in place. You will have to construct a suitable mounting with an appropriate hole for the clamp. I use this for three bikes across a frame that fits either in the back of my truck, on my trailer or the roof rack. I have never lost a bike. Belt and braces - place a small rachet strap in place. Kind regards Gavin
I live full time in a 2021 RAM PROMASTER CITY. I have space for storing seven one gallon purchased bottled water containers. If I need water I pull one out and dispose when empty. I have a Coleman stove with a steam kettle on top for boiling water for coffee.
I have enjoyed watching this video as well as all the others. Has your build time improved with your experience and the cnc machine? I'm not saying you need to get done quicker but was wondering how are you coming along with the two Transits.
Yes, the CNC has expanded our capabilities. The two Transits were put on hold so I could focus on completing the two Mini Me micro campers. Now, we are back on the Transits until they are completed. I need more workers!
I like how you are incorporating side-to-side centered water tanks, so fill level does not off balance the weight distribution. Also position optimal for vehicle dynamics. It does seem that RV water pumps are short lived regardless of make. Wonder what the failure point is, and could it be a repairable component since getting a replacement on a trip can be difficult and expensive. Vehicle manufacturers have figured out fuel pumps that last nearly forever, maybe something designwise could transfered to water application. Have you looked for manifolds with built-in valves?
Wow, George! You are just amazing! Your vans are a work of art. Your videos are a work of art! And you are a work of art. I love your channel so much. Thanks for a wonderful Sunday upload. Those plumbing bagpipes cracked me up. Only you can play this instrument, ha ha! Take good care of yourself! I hope everyone there is fully vaccinated, Boosters, Monkeypox, Covid, etc. You are all too precious to lose. Please take your Zinc 50 mg supplements. Prevents cancer, boosts immune system, and increases T hormones. Every case of prostate cancer has shown a severe zinc deficiency. If only my dad had known in time. Since I started taking zinc, I've never caught a cold or flu. Take this at night as it promotes sleep.
George... so many of your components are accessible by just removing a few screws and sliding something out. There are getting to be a lot of builds. Do you ever think you will need to leave yourself a manual or some kind of notes to remember how to take stuff apart or for others to figure it out? Or, is it really just obvious? And yes, I would agree that your manifolds are like fine tuned instruments!🙂
Because each component is always visible it’s seems pretty obvious what needs to be done to service or replace. I cover these details in the owner orientation and some have shot video for future reference
Do you give your clients a manual with diagrams on how to take things apart to access the more internal components? While you may understand your builds to do so if the client can get their van back to you, but what if the client has to do it themselves or if they bring it to some random mechanic out in the boonies?
If that’s a Shurflo 4048 model, you don’t need a pressure tank or foot valve for that model…. It has a built in check valve, and it also states in its features that it doesn’t need a pressure tank. I run these in all my builds. Very good pump.
Working on it! It's not on the front burner right now, but it is always pecking at me in the back of my head and here's why...I will take all the profits and donate to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to research pediatric cancer. we can all get involved.
What is the measurement from the floor of this van to the bottom most rail of the bed frame on the side of the van? Thanks for yet another video displaying your Genius mind at work!
When you secure your 80/20 framing to the van floor are you using wood screws into the plywood? or are you bolting them into the aluminum subfloor joists with plusnuts? or are you bolting through to the underside of the van?
Seems like the water expansion tank would need to be pressurized slightly lower than the capacity of the pump or the pump wouldn't be able to pressurize it
The most efficient use of the accumulator occurs with the pre-charge set at the SAME pressure as the pump's pressure switch “turn on” setting. Typically, a 45 psi [3 bar] pump will turn on around 30 psi [2.07 bar]. Therefore, the pre-charge should also be 30 psi [2.07 bar].
we need to talk about the bike rack. (It could be so much better)... also with a rear wheel on the bike (front removed), why would you need to lean into pick it up as you can ROLL it on the rear wheel??? skip the entire $ complicated heavy BS tray slider thing. I pick my bike up outside the van, roll it into place on it's rear wheel, and hang it from the handle bar w a pair of carabiners (sits on rear wheel). so simple, so stable, inviolately adjustable, (also works on a hook into the bottom of steering tube of fork, or a padded strap under the a tube). just sayin' love your work.
When you roll a bike on it rear wheel, the pedals rotate. In this tight space, we cannot afford pedal rotation. Also, you are most likely a younger robust individual. Rolling a bike in and out of a tight space is not that easy for some people. I build to those considerations.
Do you still use the glycol water heating system that you used on some of your other vans, love that system of heating water, such a great idea that i would love to implement that on my van.
George, great video as always. Can I ask what size the hole is on the water tank and how do you close that up for easy access? I would like to make my water tank hole bigger for easy cleaning.
Question: are you creating schematics (either on paper or pdf) that include part numbers/manufacturer for your clients? Seems like each system is slightly different and would be important for your customer to have, no?
No. With no two vans alike, it would be too time consuming and costly to produce such a manual for every van. I have a personal one on one relationship with all my clients. We confer regularly. So far, there has not been any issue we couldn't address easily.
@@HumbleRoad Hmmm...I'm thinking of retiring from my accounting practice. Want someone to write them up for you?? I truly wish I could do it for you but can't even get my head committed to retiring, much less committing time to such a technical project! Still... don't meet up with the proverbial bus!
Very interested in a class B RV probably Mercedes. if I get you to do the conversation can you help me get the MB?? I can send my cell if you think we should talk. My timeline is probably 6 months down the road.
@@HumbleRoad George, can the AWD be modified to 4 WD…..Or can I get a 2wd and have aftermarket 4wd upgrade, do you work with anybody like Quigley? thanks
This is not the customer's bike. It is a stand in, and is larger than what will eventually sit here. Good eye, though! I figured someone would notice the seat height!
