Time to water test my Helix 7 SI GPS Fishfinder after installing it on my Hobie Outback. Here is the final video in my series of the Humminbird Helix 7 Fishfinder installation on my Hobie Outback kayak. In today's video I take it out to my city lake to give it a water test. I'm happy to say that the water test was successful. I'm really happy with my install. The Helix 7 has a very bright display and easy to read. I still have a lot to learn about the Humminbird side imaging feature. This is a side imaging fishfinder and I don't really know how to use it yet but the regular down imaging works perfectly and it's what I'm used to. I pedaled around the lake and I marked several locations where I will go back and fish. I hope you have enjoyed this series of videos and it may have been helpful to some of you facing a similar situation. This fishfinder is just packed with technology to help you become a better fisherman. I expect afterr I learn more how to use the Helix 7 I will definitely put more fish in my boat. I just picked up a Helix 5 SI to bump up my game this season with some side imaging! I'll just have to learn to live with any lingering feelings of inadequacy now that I know that yours is bigger than mine...

That's what she said! (ok, I know that's what you wanted to brighten your day because you are sad at home right now because it's cold and dreary) I have seriously lacked using all the features on my Helix. I'm going to try and dive in this year and learn more of what this machine is capable of. You should get the Nocqua to power it. No comparison on batteries.

Did you set your chart speed to match you boat speed? That made a difference for me.

Just curious. What was it that made you decide on the Hummingbird Helix 7? There are so many devices to choose from. Was it screen resolution, price, features, availability, recommendation from a friend etc? Thanks

After watching a lot of videos, it just seemed to me that the Helix 7 offered the most features, at least the ones I wanted, and had the best price. I was intrigued by the side scan and everyone raved about the size and brightness of the screen which is a huge plus. My buddy Steve on Kayak Hacks Fishing Channel also purchased his before I did and he influenced my decision as well. It was a leap of faith when I clicked the "buy" button but I'm very happy with my purchase.

What convinced me was the Helix 10 winning best in show for electronics at ICAST 2016. Granted, it is larger and has a few more bells, but the Helix 7 features are the same where they overlap. And that screen... it is brilliant and view-able... not like my Garmin Montana 600 GPS screen that I have to hide under my hat to see.
