This is hands down the best video on RU-vid to explain how to adjust the orientation for the mega live - it is also valuable for those who have target lock. The manual sucks on explaining how to line up the mega live head unit to thetrolling motor
Thanks for the kind words, they are much appreciated. I just installed Target Lock and you certainly gain experience with each install to make the process easier and more efficient.
@stevechiassonfishing5876 I've just purchased a unit and your videos are hands down the best ones online! Tonight, I sit in the garage in the boat on simulator mode... 😆 getting used to the settings... have a great day!
I certainly appreciate your kind comments Ed. I understand that it is not always easy so simplifying the process for others is another form of extending my teaching career, just different subject matter. 😁
Thanks, I just started my install, but using a pole mount instead of on the trolling motor. Also adding a GN4 to handle the Mega Live. Your video is helpful as the install is much different than a standard sonar would be.
Waiting for my live to arrive. Any advice with the installation with a mega 360? Was hoping you covered it but I didn’t hear you talk much about clearance with the 360. I enjoy your videos.
Thanks for the kind words Matt. Keep the MegaLive close to the bottom of the shaft. I put mine 2 finger widths above the bottom of the shaft. Mega360 is out away from the MegaLive so you shouldn’t have any issues. Mega360 should be 6” below the waterline. Just eyeball what looks right to you and it should be good. If you have a 45” shaft, there’s a limited amount of adjustability, more with longer shafts.
Nice breakdown of the install . I'm curious about the mask that comes in the packaging used for interference. What would be the purpose of it when u have the choke installed as well.
Thanks Ryan, I have gone through the installation instructions trying to find more information on the mask. The MegaLive I have is a demo until I get my own. The mask was already installed. It’s my understanding that it deals with a reflection of the signal. Personally speaking, each additional item that helps avoid interference is a good thing. The choke did not arrive with my demo but I will definitely install it when I get my MegaLive sent. Sorry for the delay getting back to you as I was trying to source out a better answer for you.
I would give the edge to the Mega360 as it shows you the whole area vs. a narrow frontal view. The MegaLive will also show you the structure in front but in a limited way. The MegaLive makes it easier to see fish than the Mega360. If forced to pick one I would go with the Mega360. The MegaLive is complementary to the Mega360.
Nice video. What battery set up are you running for all this? I have 2 helix 10s and 1 helix 9 on one start/ deep cycle interstate. Ulterra 24v with 3 bank charger. Been thinking about adding a second 12v battery and charger when it’s time to replace battery. I would think all these ‘bird product have to suck the power. Maybe a good winter project would be a video explaining connecting two batteries and all the connectors and isolators. Seems confusing to me.
Thanks Jack for the compliment and the video suggestion. I am running two AGM 31 series batteries in parallel. Nobody ever complains about having too much battery power. 😁
They are part of the cable, they don’t come separately. It is my understanding that they come that way unless there was a prototype that didn’t have them.
I have a Mega Live issue. I’m almost positive that in the forward view left & right are reversed. E.G. when I line up the transducer on, say a pole in the water, & see it on the ML & if there’s another pole say 10’ to right of the target pole, then it shows on the ML view to the left of the target pole. Have you ever see this? This makes scanning for underwater targets awkward.
At 24:46 bullet point two. If you are connected to a network with multiple helix units then the mega live will be connected into the 5port switch. So no unit is technically connected directly to the mega live imaging transducer. What do they mean by this? Am I missing something?
The MegaLive can be plugged directly into Helix using an Ethernet cable and dongle or go through the 5 port Ethernet switch. If you want to share it, you need to go through Ethernet switch.
@@stevechiassonfishing5876 yeah which would make the statement irrelevant because the helix units only have one network port so if the helix is directly connected to the mega live it’s only network port will be used and it cannot be connected to the network. Correct? Not questioning you just the reason for their statement.
Thanks Steve, for clearing this up! I purchased a Helix 10 for the Megalive exclusively so was hoping to avoid purchasing the 5 port switch and running another cable to the front for it. I have a Helix 9 up front for down imaging and waypoints. Thanks again, your video is a lifesaver!🎉
The MegaLive has only two connections, one for the Ethernet and one for power which I addressed with the wiring to the fuse panel near the beginning of the video. The instructions manual is a very helpful reference. The Ethernet can be connected directly to the unit with a dongle to a Helix or direct to a Solix or Apex. The Ethernet can also be connected to an optional 5 Port Ethernet switch.
Steve, I’m not concerned about networking my Helix 10-purchased exclusively for the Megalive. Can I simply connect the Megalive Ethernet cable (with the dongle) to my Helix 10 and have a working system?
Yes, the MegaLive with the dongle will connect directly to your Helix. You will need to connect your MegaLive to your fuse panel or a power source to make it a working system.
