In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ru-vid.comUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
This video was the reason I bought a good ol fl8-se vexilar. Best decision I could have made. The vexilar is so bright and the battery life is so long. Analog flashers may be old school but they really give you a great idea of what’s going on under the ice
*I am mainly using this a a depth finder.>>>**allabout.wiki/tcue** and looking for submerged rock piles and structure. Not using the unit to locate fish currently. But it does have that capability for when I do want to use it.*
Aaron can you make a video discussing the moon phases. Because everything I hear about this subject needs to come from you so I can believe everyone else;)... please Aaron we enjoy your work.
Love your videos with a littler humor added in , but love the fact that you review & demonstrate products , it helps consumers & challenges manufacturers to put out the best possible products. Keep up the good work
Very good video Bud. I run an ice 45 and you're right it shows the brightness difference big time. I fish outside 90% of the time. Ive never tried a Marcum but have owned an Fl8 and it was a great unit. The only reason i havent switch to Vex is because they havent upgraded their zoom to view any part of the water column. Just the top and bottom and i fish tulibee alot. When they fix that ill switch immediately. Most people dont need the entire water column though. Again great vid and tight lines pal.
I can't wait to see your video that does a deep dive on these units. I can tell you that for us guys that keep our butter soft the hummingbird gets messed up by the interference as soon as you're in 26 feet or more when you're in a fish house with other fashers. Not just a little unclear. You can't see anything. After several attempts and trying all the interference functions with no result I finally bought a flx 28 and have never regretted it.
I just bought a new flx 20 because my neighbor had an older one and I trusted his. I almost crapped when I saw how crystal clear and bright my new one is on the ice. His was decent but the new design from vexilar just looks better all around. I was happy to see the outcome of this video as well.
Aaron I really wish you would post more for the broke angler. Example: If you could only have 2 Ice fishing multi species rods which one would you get. MANUAL AUGERS , tackle. Cheapest way to get into a flasher ect.
"To get back to the warning that I received, you may take it with how ever many grains of salt you wish, that the brown acid that is circulating around us is not specifically to good. Ah, it's suggested that you do stay away from that. Of course, it's your own trip so be my guest but, ah, please be advised there is warning on that one. Ok? Elliot from Harvard the hitchhikers you need, the hitchhikers you picked up need the pills from your car please go to the information station right away. Louis Picknic your brother is in the Fallsburg Police Station." And a good time was had by all.
+The Dream Catcher: You have to be a certain age to recognize that quote and know where it comes from. Google, brown acid, if your interested enough to find out.
Winston Xion: Google, "the brown acid is bad," and watch the video that shows up. Now you know where my comment comes from. Aaron goofs in this video and says, LSD (acid) rather than LCD (liquid crystal display) So my comment is a famous quote about LSD. My comment is supposed to be a joke for anyone over the age of roughly 40... like me.
Winston Xiong Yes, I'm old and with any luck someday you will be old too but you never know you might not be one of the lucky ones who gets old. Brown Acid Warning that I took my first comment from: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hKoLlKmQSHU.html
Great video! I've been looking for a more in depth video comparing the units and their pros and cons but there isn't too much out there. Appreciate the review.
I like my ice-55 over those other flashers. It’s true, fishing in the day time with the sun out makes the ice-55 more dimmed but I have no problem with it. But on the BRIGHT side, ice -55 is a much better product when it comes to night fishing due to the fact that the brightness won’t irritate your eyes while fishing.
AARON!! You inspire my fishing / RU-vid partner and I SOOO much, your videos are great, love them all! You've taught us a lot along the way, so thanks for all you do!! Also, what's up with the Basketball Hoop on the ice!? Seriously confused, is that a little Easter Egg?? Tight Lines my friend!
Hey Aaron! I'm a Marcum fan, however! ... Good job buddy! Vexilar will work too. I guess. Haha. Keep the vids coming man, you give many people excitement with your creativity and love for fishing. Thank You!
I’ve owned a FL18, Marcum LX5 and a Humminbird 45. I definitely prefer the Marcum. Now I usually fish in a shack but I don’t have a hard time reading it outside. Yes the hummingbird has a large display but the reason I like my Marcum better is the quality of the view and target separation. I’d compare to looking at an older tv to a modern high definition Tv. My buddy just bought an FL18 and after fishing next to me a couple days he wished he had my old LX5. It does burn up the battery more but it’s worth it. Unfortunately when Marcum was bought out a few years back their reliability has gone down but they still make the best flasher in my opinion.
Thanks for the great side by side demo. Completely unbiased video , but it made my Vexilar and I feel rather smug. Us bearded men fish outside quite a lot.
Thanks Aaron! Great info. I run a hummingbird ice 35 now and find it suitable for my needs but I don't know how long before my needs change. I mainly fish inside my otter tent.
I have a vexilar and love it. Bright, simple and powerful. I am color blind and never had an issue seeing the screen with a vexilar. Others in certain conditions I have trouble seeing. In the shack though, who cares. Use what you like.
Dude I freaking love this!!!! I always dreamed of you doing gear reviews or even just Dailey vlogs lol let's see a mtv cribs of your basement and all the gear you accumulated over the years lol
I have always loved Vexilars and at times I think they can be to bright. Dad just got the Helix 5 and talk about no battery life even when turned down still think it’s not enough battery. Awesome video Aaron! Now who won the Easter egg???
Whomever disagree must be pretty biase. I fish my lx7 inside my flip but I will go grab my flx every single time im fishing outside and hole hop. The led lights in the the flx is just better in bright situations. I won't fish the flx inside because, even though I can adjust the lighting, it still hurts my eye. This is a perfect evaluation. Forget the haters
I have a super old vexilar that my grandpa never used and when he moved he gave it to me, the thing is more sensitive that a brand new Garmin 93 echomap CHIRP that my buddy took off his boat for hard water fishing
I have an FLX 20 and it is an incredible unit I fish 45 to 65 feet and it is the best I had an ice 35 but the zoom is crap very poor definition. You have to have zoom for bottom hugging perch in 50 ft. of water or you wont see them and that is where the FLX 20 shines and shines brightly!
Throck I have tried to turn my IR up but it doesn’t permanently work it works a little at first then it doesn’t work :/ do you have a newer model mar-cum
yes I have a LX3-tci....samething as the new "M" series. Only difference between Lx3-tci and new "M" series is brushless motor which makes no noise. Did Vex maybe change their IR filter strength with the newer FLX series? or is the wattage rating something that makes interference vary? My Marcum is 2000 watt and the new Vex FLX-28 is only 1000 watts. Not expecting you to know this exactly but it sure poses questions on why this is an issue.
I have an FLX 20 also and it is an incredible unit I fish 45 to 65 feet and it is the best I had an ice 35 but the zoom is crap you have to have zoom for bottom hugging perch in 50 ft. of water or you wont see them and that is where the FLX 20 shines and shines brightly!
Did anyone else notice he compared a top of the line Vexilar with and entry level Marcum M1? It's the lithium shuttle that makes it the same price(which was mentioned on video). The 20 should have been compared to the M5, which I believe is brighter. I know the LX5 was brighter then the VX1. Compare the M1 to the FL8 for a fairer comparison.
HELP Aaron by watching the commercial and or clicking on them. I am sure he'll use the youtube funds to bring us more great content. It can't be cheap doing all the great video footage and narration.
You know yesterday I said to myself I hope arron should really upload a new video soon maybe of him ice fishing this isn't really what I had in mind but I'll take it, can't wait for you to get on some big water and some trophy Lakers
I have a Marcum 5 and Vexilar 12. I like the Marcum better when it worked. Customer service SUCKED. I bought Vexilar and have been using ever since. I did finally get Marcum fixed have not used it yet. Marcum had the shade cover which I liked alot. It was quite compared to vexilar. But the transducer is so heavy for that cable. Not good.
Arron I love your opinion but my humminbird ICE35 is brighter than the humminbird u showed + an experienced fisherman freaked at how clear and bright it was.
