That was so fun. You made it feel like we were there with you. I didn’t want to turn away from the screen for fear I would miss the whales forgetting I could just rewind. 🤦🏼♂️
@@JohnThomasAbroad it’s cool for action stuff and was great on a day when it was raining a lot and we didn’t want to get our other cameras wet, but it’s noticeably a lower quality video that comes out of it. also, you need the media mod add-on (which makes it less waterproof) or the sound is no good. so we do like it, but only for certain uses.
It really was! We’re so fortunate that the weather was unusually beautiful, and so many whales turned out for us! (not to mention the other wildlife). What an awesome day.
What absolutely magical footage x I loved seeing the ice on the river but nothing quite beats the whale footage x A great video and a lovely share of your experience and memory x Have hit the red button so I can catch up on more of your travels x
it’s so amazing. the cruise also has naturalists on board doing talks about the animals, indigenous people, and how climate change is affecting Alaska and the species there. It’s super interesting. Especially when you cruise through Glacier Bay National Park.
That was amazing. That trip was the stuff of dreams. Those whales sure put on a show for you and the fact that you got to see the new baby as well, awesome. Juneau looks like such a lovely town. Your dinner looked delicious as well. Looking forward to seeing more of your trip. Have a great day x
You said it - that trip really was the stuff of dreams. And that dinner was more than surprisingly excellent! Thanks for watching and have an wonderful day yourself!
thank you so much!!! we definitely need practice shooting wildlife 😅 but it was a special experience for us and we really wanted to get the pace and feeling right, even though it’s a bit slower. we really appreciate you saying that! 🥰
Hey guys nice to meet you both. Just found you today and really pleased we have your videos are awesome guys. Keep the videos coming. Fantastic footage and great editing. Love it. Stay safe and see you soon ❤️
Please join us for a live chat when the video premieres! Sunday, 10/3 (tomorrow!) at 2pm Eastern, 11am Pacific. This was a special day for us, and we can't wait for you all to see it!!! 🥰
Wonderful video great job filming and editing! It was amazing when the boat was shut off and you just floated on the beautiful water and so many whales how wonderful! We are taking our first Alaskan cruise this summer 2023 and stopping at the same ports and can't wait. Thanks for all the great ideas and we will subscriber and support your channel for sure and watch more to prep for our trip. We can't wait to vlog. Thx again great channel can't wait to see more in 2023 best wishes!
thank you so much! we need to work on our action/wildlife videography 😅 but it's fun to practice. we feel so fortunate to have been able to go and do that, and are so happy to have the "souvenir" of a video to relive it.
That was such a fun experience! Not only does the hike give you spectacular views but you got to see whales! My friend would LOVE a cruise like this but to see Orcas, we’re trying to make it happen and I’m looking forward to that day!
We were hoping to see orcas, too! They do show up every so often up there, but they say maybe once every 10-20 tours (depending who you're taking to), so only a 5%-10% of seeing them. You can also catch them off the coasts of California and Mexico (and I'm sure others), as well! Hopefully you get to go soon!
@@StephenandAndie oh yes, we’re trying to see which ones can give us the best chance of seeing them. Even if we don’t, at least we had an awesome time on a cruise lol
Never knew there was a temperate forest in an area so far north like Alaska. The whale watching looked fab. The water looks so still I've only ever seen dolphins off the Omani coast and that was exciting. Alaska now moves up the list for me.
we saw dolphins swimming alongside the cruise ship one day, and we were super excited about that too! most wildlife sightings are pretty thrilling, though, aren’t they? There are so many opportunities for them in Alaska, so we can’t recommend it enough.
Oh wow that must have been such an amazing experience!! And so many of them too 😱 they look like they were pretty close to you too!! And definitely a great bonus being able to see a glacier, who know how long they even have left! Awesome adventure as always guys! 😁🙌🏻
We felt so lucky to have had these experiences. In a couple of weeks we'll be sharing video from our cruise through Glacier Bay National Park, where we see several impressive glaciers spilling into the ocean. The sad part is, as you mentioned, how they are diminishing. There are currently 11 glaciers there that reach the water. Not that long ago there were 20. Before that, they were all connected as one massive glacier. We are so grateful to have seen what we did. It's such a shame that climate change is making it so that future generations will just have photos and videos of them.
This is amazing, love your channel very much! You two are so positive! :D Dinner looked great! Yum! thank you for sharing your special trip with us! :D
OMG!!!!!!!! what an experience!!!! Maria recommended this vlog to us and I just started watching and I am literally adding locations to my bucketlist as I watch each of your videos. we are based all the way in Australia so hopefully we can come and visit some of these gorgeous locations soon. I am curious where you are headed next!
Hi, Bianca and Shannon! That's so great to hear - we really appreciate it! So thrilled to have you here with us. We'd love to visit Australia one day, too!
Great video, thank you for showing! To see climate change in such a way is quite confrontational… guess that awareness is one of the reasons why travel matters ;) Keep travelling and sharing your journey!
What a fantastic day. We did an Alaskan cruise back in 2015 and we absolutely love it. The hike looked lovely. I love the views of the glaciers. The views were incredible. So sad of no sightings of the animals. OMG whale watching was awesome!! We actually saw a whale breach. The seals were pretty cool!! Love that they were ringing the bell. WOW, you guys got so lucky to see so many whales. That was fantastic!! Great footage. Downtown looks so pretty. Love the small buildings. The food looks delicious 🤤 How many days are you cruising for? Is the ship at full capacity? Do you guys feel safe on the cruise in regards to covid? Thanks.
hi! the cruise was Aug. 29-Sept. 5, so about 1 week. It was a fully vaccinated cruise (I think that was a requirement in order for them to be able to go to Alaska) AND everyone had to have a negative test to get on board. People were also very good about following the mask requirements indoors. so yes, we felt very safe! the ship was only at about 50-60% capacity, and we were the only ship in each port of call, so there were never any real problems with crowding, neither on the ship nor in port.
@@StephenandAndie That sounds awesome. We love cruising and cruised a lot when the kids were younger. We talked about cruising now but weren't sure. But thanks for informing me. This might change Kenny's mind lol 😆
Hey guys this looked like an unforgettable day! I think we would also pay the extra to be in a smaller group. You saw so many whales 😍 and even when the whales were under water the views were so pretty 😊
It really was a magical day. Being out there with those beautiful creatures was such a privilege. We’re SO glad we opted for the smaller group - it made it so much more special.
“They are all around us! This is so amazing!” 💯!!!! So cool. And you saw them in person. Just wow. Did you pay them an appearance fee, and what would you pay a humpback? (Not queso.)
Lol! It really was “wow.” We’re so fortunate that so many showed up for us. It was so. Awesome. We could have stayed out there all day if they’d have let us! What a fantastic experience.
What?!?! This is seriously so magical!! I showed P this and it made him so much more antsy for a future cruise ^_^ Definitely going to have to save this entire itinerary from you two!
thanks! it’s hard to say how long you should spend there. the town itself is tiny, but if you wanted to spend a day hiking to the glacier - actually going to it and not just an easy viewing point like we did - and another day whale watching, you could do that. the town itself probably wouldn’t warrant a whole lot of time, though. it’s tiny and there’s only the one road that goes out of it and not very far (you can’t drive to Juneau, only get to it by plane or boat), so there aren’t day trips to take from there very easily.
thanks Amber! we booked the excursion through the cruise line - it was a hike and whale watch combo, so same group for both. unfortunately I don’t recall what the local agency/business was that the cruise booked with.
Really sad to see the Mendenhall glacier is shrinking due to climate change. So funny to see the sea lions ringing the bell. The whales and background scenery were absolutely magical!
Climate change was a constant factor throughout our trip there. I wish more people could see first-hand how different parts of the world are affected by it. They might think differently about how they use, invest, vote, etc. Sure, the rock that is Earth will survive, but so much beauty, species, etc will be gone. It makes me sad for future generations.
it’s common as part of their flow, but global warming is definitely contributing to it happening at a faster rate, as well as the retreat there. We heard some sad stats when we cruised through Glacier Bay, too. Makes me feel more desperate now to get to places like Iceland, Manitoba, Finland, and Antarctica asap. 😢
Ooh, how exciting! We were there during the first week of September. Not sure how big of a difference a few weeks will make, but we’ll cross our fingers for you! Please come back and let us know, ok? 🤞🐋😊
