Screen legend, Humphrey Bogart along with his wife and fellow actress Lauren Bacall are interviewed at their Los Angeles, CA home during this September 3, 1954 interview by Edward R. Murrow.
Humphrey Bogart was committed to the art. In the more than 80 films spanning his career, he was never once late to the set or unprepared for his lines. He held a deep respect for actors who were serious about their performances, and was professional in every aspect of his own career.
"[Bogart] achieved class through his integrity and his devotion to what he thought was right," said friend Nathaniel Benchley in his biography, "Humphrey Bogart". "He believed in being direct, simple, and honest, all on his own terms, and this ruffled some people and endeared him to others."
In 1944, Warner Bros. paired Bogart with 20-year-old Betty Perske, a personable up-and-comer who went by the stage name Lauren Bacall. A sultry beauty, Betty already had a highly successful modeling career with Harper's Bazaar, and was looking to break into the movie business. The two were slated to star in a screenplay adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's novel To Have and Have Not. Upon meeting her, Bogart told Betty, "I saw your test. We're going to have a lot of fun together."
He could not have been more right. The electricity between Bogart and Betty was tangible, and yet their connection was much more than physical. Betty's self confidence and dedicated work ethic matched Bogart's, and her warm, nurturing manner complimented his softer side nicely. Bogart's connection with Betty gave him the final push he needed to end the ailing marriage with Mayo. Their divorce was final on May 10, 1945, and Bogart and Betty were married less than two weeks later on May 21. (humphreybogart.com)
HUMPHREY BOGART (1899 -1957) nicknamed Bogey, was an American film and stage actor. His performances in Classical Hollywood cinema films made him an American cultural icon. In 1999, the American Film Institute selected Bogart as the greatest male star of classic American cinema.
LAUREN BACALL (1924 -2014) Lauren Bacall was an American actress. She was named the 20th-greatest female star of classic Hollywood cinema by the American Film Institute and received an Academy Honorary Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2009 in recognition of her contribution to the Golden Age of motion pictures.
CELEBRITY INTERVIEW PLAYLIST
• Celebrity Interviews, ...
Person to Person is a popular television program in the United States that originally ran from 1953 to 1961, with two episodes of an attempted revival airing in 2012. Edward R. Murrow hosted the original series from its inception in 1953 until 1959, interviewing celebrities in their homes from a comfortable chair in his New York studio (his opening: "Good evening, I'm Ed Murrow. And the name of the program is 'Person to Person'. It's all live - there's no film"). Although Murrow is best remembered as a reporter on programs such as Hear It Now and See It Now and for publicly confronting Senator Joseph McCarthy, on Person to Person he was a pioneer of the celebrity interview.

Lauren Bacall is the antithesis of class, style and grace, even the way she walks and moves, speaks and uses her mannerisms oozes graciousness, intelligence, and genuine charm. And the way she looks at Bogey as he speaks, with total love, adoration, respect and devotion, warmly amused by his humor as they play off each other, is the stuff true love is made of. Bogey, the gruff straight shooter, clearly loved her to his very soul; supportive (“there’s nothing you can’t do” 😫♥️👏🏼), kind, warm and witty, looking at her with total devotion, respect and admiration, it’s obvious their love for each other was incredibly strong. And it’s apparent in this short interview, that they shared a crackling sense of humor, revealing a depth of connection and a compatibility deeper still than on screen. Perhaps Hollywood’s greatest love story, perhaps true soul mates, I never tire of watching them together. Their’s was a rare love, and they shared a white hot attraction for one another that crackled with electricity on the screen, and appears deeper still when you see them in person. I hope they are together even as I write this, somewhere in the great beyond.

Wow!! I can't believe how things turn out sometimes in life! Read this: Humphrey Bogart said, that they planed to make the film: "The Man Who Would Be King" had been a pet project of John Huston's for many years after he had read the book as a child. Huston had planned to make the film since the 1950s, originally with Clark Gable and Humphrey Bogart in the roles of Daniel and Peachy. He was unable to get the project off the ground before Bogart died in 1957; Gable followed in 1960. Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas were then approached to play the leads, followed by Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole. In the 1970s, Huston approached Robert Redford and Paul Newman for the roles. Newman advised Huston that British actors should play the roles, and it was he who recommended Connery and Caine. Caine was very keen to appear, especially after he was told that his part had originally been written for Humphrey Bogart, his favorite actor as a young man..!

Most actors are type casted. But Bogart has played in so many different roles, like the film noirs, then opposite type roles, ex. the African Queen, the Cane Mutiny. Amazing ability. He smoked heavenly all his life and died early of cancer. A great life. A great actor.
